While it is true that you don’t need to play the game to understand the show, the show isn’t stand alone from LOL, it’s canon in league lore. It’s also cool to see some of the nods to the game in the story, like champions and their abilities.
@@aPhatPhoenix Still LoL is not a narrative game like TLOU or Tomb Raider. The lore is nice to know but not necesarry to enjoy playing the game. So in that sense it could all be seperate from each other.

Powder never knew Silco at this point really , so while her head was a mess trying to understand and process everything that just happened while feeling betrayed by who is supposed to care for her, a "random" man got to her level asking where her sister is, as if trying to help her, so in her position she just wanted to feel not alone in that moment and just jumped and hugged and grabbed onto someone who apparently wants to help. And yes, Silco was planning on hurting her with the knife, but then Powder hugged him and said the exact words that Silco could empathize with: "She is not my sister anymore", and looks over to Vander who used to be his brother, at that point he decides to care for her, he understands the feeling of betrayal by a sibling, and wants to confort her while at the same time reassuring her that with his help, they can overcome that. Such a cool concept.
I think she might have kind of known Silco (though probably not well). I mean first of all he was clearly Vander's friend when Vander was still fighting for the cause and he found the kids at that time. They probably cut ties a bit after that. And secondly itseems like Silco is a well known person where they live. But in any case, she would have known who Silco is and that he is a powerful guy and on top of that he is the only person around to look for help. So it's not like it was just a random guy to her.
I remember watching this originally when this came out in the original 3 episode batches. That 3rd episode ending still packs a heck of a punch. Can't wait for Season 2.
Congrats to 100k subscribers Addie. And you definitely picked a great show - IMO one off the most outstanding shows of the last 10-15 years - plus right in time for season 2 coming up soon.
Undoubtedly one of the best seasons of any show ever aired. Excited for season 2 but anxious as well, because the pressure is on and how do you follow up perfection...
I absolutely LOVE the voicework and direction in this show. In that last episode, Silco walks up to Powder with the knife behind his back, and his voice is all sickly sweet. "Hello, little girl..." but when she knocks him off his feet, and he has that moment of connection with her over how her circumstances reminds him of his own history, then all the insincerity drops from his voice. "It's okay." Then comfortingly "we will show them," then angrily, "we will show them all." Sure, he's projecting his grievances with the world onto Powder right then, but you can hear it in his voice that he believes what he says 100%. Great acting, great direction, great writing, great animation. This show and its cast and crew were absolutely amazing.
I didn't watch this show until a few months ago. After watching the third episode, I was so broken I had to take a week-long break from the show. It wasn't until after, I found out that the show actually came out in threes, with a week inbetweeen! It is almost unreal how good this show is and I'm kind of happy I didn't watch it when it first came out, so I didn't have to wait three years for season two... which is starting tomorrow... yay!!!
In my opinion, Silco is the closest thing the show has to a conventional "hero". Arcane does a great job of showing how everyone else does is motivated deep down by personal desires if not outright selfishness, even when they are doing the "right thing". Silco and Sevika are the only ones putting others before themselves. In most shows that would make them the heroes or at least an anti hero, but here they use it to justify evil actions. A very unique approach from Arcane...
Even though they showed the explosion multiple times, it was just one explosion, they wanted you to see how everyone was affected by it at the moment it went off, so it looked like 5 but it was just one. When I first saw this and she made the monkey bomb, I was reminded of something I heard a long time ago, grenades don’t know ally from enemy, so I knew it was going to be bad when she got the idea
This is why it's probably a good idea not to encourage young children to make explosives. :D Now, her shooting skill, that could have been useful and easier to control. I'm thinking of that scene from that movie where a little girl superhero has to rescue her dad and she's highly skilled with guns. Long story short, the bad guys all died.
I had a dark laugh when, after Milo and Claggor are both struck by hurling debris, buried under a pile of rubble, and then caught in a massive fiery explosion, Addie says "wait are the two boys dead for real?"
The last couple mins of episode 3 might be the most emotionally destructive piece of media in history. Poor Powder is so broken and afraid of being alone. Vi hitting her, blaming her, leaving her (horrible but understandable in the moment) is so destructive to her. Seeing a damaged kid breaking like that is so devastating.
Powder embodies "Murphy's law" and the way they paralleled her biggest low, with essentially the beginning of Hex-tech on top side was just an insanely brilliant choice to end the prologue.
I really like how accessible they made this series I have zero interest in computers and games, and know nothing about LoL.. But this series is absolutely fantastic, and I cannot wait for series 2.
The thing about Arcane is there's benefits to both being familiar with LoL and having no idea about LoL. If you're familiar then you'll be treated to some largely inconsequential easter eggs however if you don't know the game or lore you have the benefit of not knowing which characters are likely to have plot armour and which are more vulnerable.
Get ready for a freakin ride. This might be the best piece of animation to date in human history. In terms of cost to product, animation quality, story structure, characters, hell its even up there in moving the pin forward on the animation industry as a whole the way Pixar did in the 00s and Disney did in the 90s.
If you stitch all the little clues together, you'll realize that Vi and Powder saved Silko's life in the opening scene of the first episode. Vander was in the process of drowning him when he saw the girls and left him to take care of the sisters. I always assumed that they both led the insurrection at the beginning, but Silco crossed some line Vander couldn't ignore.
Oh Vander and Silco are figurative brothers. Not literal. They fought together against Piltover (the top side where Jayce and the others are). And so became like brothers in war So when Silco hears how Powder talks about Vi.. It resonates with him deeply and his relationship with Vander
This game starts as a story of family and sisters. And it still is by episode 3, but it's also a story of politics and more. This is one of the best aninated shows, and just shows period, considering it only has 9 episodes this season and next one too. The world building and characters are amazing
Marcus took Vi to use as leverage against Silco at some point in the future, somehow. He didn't have a plan, just saw an opportunity. But he was entirely correct. If Vi had gotten back to Powder...Silco would've simply killed them both. He knows he can't turn Vi to his side...he killed Vander, she'll never forgive him. And if Vi is around, Powder will never let go of her, meaning he wouldn't be able to turn her, either...especially if he kills Vi. So, he'd have to kill them both to make sure they don't get in his way later with some revenge obsession. So, Marcus really did save both their lives by kidnapping Vi. He didn't mean to, but that's what happened. If he hadn't, both girls would have died.
The show was released in sets of 3 by 3 episodes, that's why it feels like 3 was sort of a finale. The game is a competitive multiplayer arena pvp game (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena, or MOBA), so it does not really have an actual story in of itself, there's just some background lore written for the characters and whatnot which they took and wrote a story around for the show. The game is very well known for having one of the most toxic communities out there and it is generally recommended not to check it out for those who like Arcane. Likewise, lots of people who despise LoL love Arcane (that includes me as well).
You are in for one hell of a ride. 2 suggestions to maximize your experience though. 1) before watching episode 7 watch the imagine Dragons "Enemy" video as it will help make the episode hit a little harder with context. 2) Once done with the season, watch the 2021 worlds show open.
"I don't want to see his monster!" - Addie 2024 Seriously though, so glad you are watching this series. I ignored it for a couple of months after it came out until a friend convinced me to watch it and I was completely blown away. It's without a doubt the best animated show I've ever seen.
So, you don't actually need to know anything about LoL to enjoy this, but I'll give you some background; League of Legends is a 5 v 5 arena game where each player picks a 'Champion' to play each game. There's over 160 Champions, they all have a bit of lore and over the years the world and characters have been fleshed out in stories like this and other shorts/stories. I think that's what makes Arcane so great, Riot can do anything they want with the characters and world (Runeterra) that they've built as we only really have snippets of character. There's also a lot of different Factions (but they don't matter in the context of the Game), there's Piltover & Zaun, the two cities this story centres around, Noxus & Demacia which are two warring Empires, The Freljord a cold harsh land akin to Norse mythology and a lot more, Ionia (East Asian inspired), Shurima (Ancient Egyptian Desert region), The Shadow Isles (Undead & Spirits), Bilgewater (a Pirate Town), Mount Targon (Greek Mythology akin to Mt Olympus) and Ixtal (Aztec-ish cultures). The scope for future Arcane/other LoL Shows is almost limitless and I can't wait to see what they do next. There's so many stories to tell!

As always with these reaction videos that react to multiple episodes, the editing is rushed, especially near the end. Overall, your editor did an okay job, but not keeping the last damn shot of the episode is beyond silly. "I think Vi is leaving" => Sure, because she's an absolute piece of shit, it makes sense. :)

Totally agree. I love the show, stylistically it's beautiful, but the plot really falls apart after this and even retroactively makes a lot of things less sensible.
This has to be one of the more wild takes I've seen on this show, lol. Angsty teenagers? Maybe you could describe Jinx that way, but that seems a bit flippant in regards to serious mental illness. Hero poses? Not even really sure what that means. But the real stinker here is "popular rock songs"...I don't think any of the music in season one would be considered rock, and popular is massively misleading considering all the music aside from the "Enemy" was original and made just for the show. Obviously you're entitled to like or dislike whatever you want, but your mischaracterization here is blatantly goofy.

Pretty close. 8.5 to 9. Easily.
