Come on dude, be real. Richie Blackmore had nothing to do with it? He was the manager of Deep Purple personnel from 1968 to 1975. Richie was responsible for replacing Nick Simper and Rod Evans, and his bickering with Gillan was a major catalyst for the Gillan/Glover departure in the middle of 1973. Gillan quit, and Ritchie assumed Paul Rogers would join DP, so he started scouting Glenn (a talented bass player with the gift of a powerful tenor-soprano range singing voice) to replace Ians old buddy Roger Glover (initially unbeknownst to him), so Glover heard rumors and decided to salvage his dignity and quit. The MK 2 lineup with Gillan/Glover and Richie is the classic, quintessential DP lineup, I concur. But you can't seriously tell me that you found nothing good that came from DP from mid 1974 to mid 1976y, particularly the album "Burn". "Stormbringer" and "Come Taste the Band" were strong albums as well, each yielded at least one or two vintage classics. If Glenn ruined DP, he only ruined it for about 3 years, he managed to make enough money to fuel the first 5-10 years of an 18 year coke and booze habit, and the band reunited and underwent various lineup changes, yet they still manage to make quality music to this day and tour the globe. With your logic, I suppose Joe Lynn Turner ruined Rainbow as well. Richie made the numerous Rainbow lineup changes too.
We have been blessed, we will never see his kind again. An amazing musician and man.
