    Probably because it is such a risky move to hitch your cart to other creators you can't control, in an unproven arena. The collab doesn't help either party since both creators are undiscovered or too early in dev design. If someone sees your game associated with something that confuses your IP or associates you with someone/thing undesirable, it'd be tough to work out from underneath that.

      Yeah, all true. Sadly, it is indeed a risky move!

    I have to say money is the key issue, no matter how you slice it. Once something starts making money, people will want their fair cut of the pot. I find myself in these situations each time I try to find more people to join in on the ECG I was working on. I already have a total of 12 collaborators, between the TCG, ECG, and TTRPGs communities at the moment. I am so grateful to the ones who have joined, but it’s not been easy.

      Yeah, very true. That seems like quite the struggle.
      What is this ECG you’re working on? (I actually don’t even know what ECG stands for!)

    If I ever finally release my own HTCG, I'd love to do an occasional set which featured characters and such from other creators' TCGs (with permission, of course). That said, even if a creator were okay with me using their material in a game I made, there would still be the hurdle of making their card work within my game's rules. Many of these HTCGs play vastly different from one another, and how an effect would work in one game may not translate perfectly to another game system. Maybe it's just me, but I ever got an opportunity like that, I'd want the other person's work to be represented as faithful as possible, even down to gameplay mechanics.

    • @PaperComputerGames
      @PaperComputerGames  8 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah, true, I can see that being a hurdle for sure. I can imagine it would take a lot of work to get it right, but I can also imagine that once that work had been put in, the result would be pretty darn cool!

    • @MathewGX

      @@PaperComputerGames I definitely think an HTCG shared universe is possible, especially when you consider the number of professional TCGs that feature their share of IP crossovers. The various anime and video game tie-ins found in Weiss Schwarz come to mind, and even the folks at Wizards of the Coast have been incorporating other franchises into Magic: the Gathering fairly recently such as Warhammer, Lord of the Rings, and Doctor Who. I think it would take someone to make a strong gameplay foundation that would make other creators go "Hey, I want to be a part of that game!" I know that's not quite what you're talking about (it has been a few days since I watched your video, after all, so the material isn't exactly fresh in my mind). It's just something related to the topic I've been pondering recently.

    • @PaperComputerGames
      @PaperComputerGames  8 месяцев назад

      @@MathewGX yeah, good point! If there was some sort of gameplay foundation, that would make it a lot easier. Hard to imagine how that would work, since different people’s TCGs have different mechanics and all; how could you make something that works with any or all of them? And yet, I feel somehow like it’s not impossible

I know nexvs is currently looking into the mext shared game though so maybe have a tjnker with him and see if he would introduce PCG designs?

  • @ShardTCG
    @ShardTCG 8 месяцев назад

    I love the idea but hate the thought of executing the project. The restrictions others may give can just slow down the project.
    I think if this could work long term, you could get 4 to 6 creators and give them a faction each to develop. Each faction get their own playstyle and design from the individual creator. Then the balancing wars begin! Getting everyone to agree what is a good balance to the game will be a struggle and people will have to remove their bias for their own faction. But I think it comes down to having too many chefs in the kitchen.

    • @PaperComputerGames
      @PaperComputerGames  8 месяцев назад

      Oh man, that does sound intense! Sounds like a really cool idea, but man would that take coordination.
      To be clear, in the video I wasn’t talking about just one crossover game but the idea of lots of people’s games being interconnected in a variety of ways. That said, a game like you’re describing- difficult as it would be to execute- would make a really good centerpiece for a universe like that, it would be really cool - if everyone could be coordinated! No easy task!

  • @RougenTCG
    @RougenTCG 8 месяцев назад

    Not that anyone asked, but the reason I'd never do something of this nature is because Rougen, (The game, not the *me*) is always and forever meant to be unmonetized. It's meant to be an easily accessible digital card game made on paper since that's all I'm good at, so I'm kinda forbade 'cause I'm stuck on the idea of not making a *CENT* off Rougen!!
    That being said, if anyone ever came to me politely and asked to collaborate with me, I'm always there as long as we work together and build each-other up!!

    • @PaperComputerGames
      @PaperComputerGames  8 месяцев назад +1

      Well that’s really cool that it’s forever unmonetized!
      But does that also forbid unmonetized crossovers? it could still be part of a shared universe if, for example, you took creatures or characters from someone else’s world who’s announced they’re okay with their characters being used, and added them into your game, no?
      That would make it part of a shared universe without making any money on it!
