it's amazing what your still can learn, that foot matching the same rowing hand on the the dumbbell row cue, you can realize how much of a contraction you can get as opposed to creating leaverage by using the oppsing leg and turning the exercise into a hip exercise, and for the majority of the people the end up traveling with the weight and not getting their back as short as possible.
I still do DB rows the way Ben pointed out and would never go back. So much more stable, and lat-focused. Why did I assume, with so many others, that teabagging a bench would somehow help? This guy’s content totally changed the way I approach exercise selection and execution.
My favourite back exercise of all time. Executed well by Gethin here too. Started Mi40 years ago, but life got in the way and I stopped. But starting again and this vid has reignited the fire!
Most will never do one-arm rows like this because it is so bloody easy to use heavyweight, swing, and allow so much momentum to take place. The amount of focus those rows (in the video) take is immense! I have been to some of Bens seminars and he taught me stuff I had no idea about. Blew my mind. But you know what, it all made so much sense. If I knew what I know now I would have been a top 10 Mr Olympian. No doubt in my mind. Easy to say that know though. Thanks Ben for the knowledge.
This is ridiculous, I was usually doing one db rows with 16 kg, now I was doing it with 8 kg and it was so much harder and pump was crazy. Thank you so much Ben, much love
I'm learning from both Chris and Ben, if Chris sees applicable benefit; is then I think it's worth a try. I've learned a lot from ppl who are trying to teach the learning hungry a good path. I'm 53 and I don't have time to BS, show me, teach me. Loving the free advice. Thanks ( mahalo) from Hawaii. I'm not huge(not trying) but I'm better than I was. Thanks Ben! Aloha
Love it. it's also great to see its not for novices Kris is accomplished and how much he managed to learn from Bens trying was a lot. Ben you would make a killing if you did mi40 in the UK I would 100% be there.
Ben, from a periodzation perspective would you suggest switching up the fully stretched and fully shortened positions. i.e 4 weeks of starting with fully shortened then the next 4 weeks of starting with fully lengthened. would switching prove to be more valuable and optimal ?
Dumbbell rows... Bpak showed us that exercise on the bench a couple of years back and im looving it. Now lately Bpak has only been doing it off the dumbbell rack.. is this better now according to him?
+Δημήτρης Πουρσανιδης The thing is that the lats get shortest when your shoulders are down and back as much as possible. The lats are attached to your upper arm right? Near the shouder joint. Thats what they pull on. Just look at an anatomical picture or video of the latissimus dorsi. If you would (for example) keep your shoulders shrugged the whole time and then row your arm your lat can't get very short. You want both ends of the muscle to come as close together as possible on the end of each rep! aka full contraction. This basically goes for every muscle, every exercise, as long as it's safe. This is why knowledge of anatomy is very valuable for bodybuilders. Shoulders down and back! Move the both ends of the lats as close together as possible!
I felt what he felt, doing this workout feel the pain smile enduring each rep. I friggen love this pull down, and as you pull down pull outwards with an inner wrist turn. Deadly workout, a couple days after your haunted in pain. Hows the boy Ben? Must be getting big?
Ben, why elevate the scapula at the top of the movement? Isn't that just releasing the lats from their contraction? why not keep them under load throughout the entire movement? thanks
Jay Vincent It's to fully stretch the lats. As Ben mentions you need to fully lengthen and shorten the muscle, so that's why you elevate your scapulas at the top of the movement.
But, you don't need to fully lengthen a muscle to get it to grow stronger. At its longest position, the reason a muscle is weaker is due to joint angle and minimal overlap between the actin and myosin proteins. Training in a fully lengthened position will not somehow change the amount of over lap and invert the strength curve. A muscle is strongest somewhere in the middle because of optimal overlap between the filaments. The point of range of motion isn't to see how far you can do, it is to hit the optimal overlap position, somewhere between full extension and full contraction, and challenge it. The way I see it, there is absolutely no benefit to training in a fully lengthened or fully shortened position.
Jay Vincent Do realize that I was just explaining to him why Kris was fully lengthening and shortening because this is the way Ben was training. Never did I say this was the way to build muscle, but only pointed out that this is how Ben trains.
Okay man I wasn't trying to offend you lol No need to get defensive. I was simply providing a counter explanation of training that way for those who read the discussion. I know why he is elevating the scapula as well, I'm trying to point out to those who read the comments that it is not necessary. But if I simply state it is not necessary, people get defensive and begin an ad hominem style argument which is what I was trying to avoid.
+Elijah Gormley I hope there is some new scientifically studied protein and supplements to go along with the cutting edge program... man these guys are sharp!
+J Lee Dorians trainingspartner was Leroy Davis. He looks quite different. Also Gethin is in his thirties.Which makes him simply to young to have trained with Dorian.
+Simon Ransby Cool, thanks! +WahrerDrache I'm not talking about Dorian's actual training partner. This guy trained with Dorian (after Dorian's competing days) and learned from him. Give it a look, it has great insight on Dorian's method of training. It's called Blood & Guts, I think (but not the DVD with Dorian's training footage).
I hear these people say the same. Lightest workout, slowest workout but most brutal. But I never see any if them continue this type of training to show actual results
Kris Gethin " what weight I just do "- That's what women < do "i should be wearing a petty coat" -- (jerk) Really unprofessional thing to say Kris Gethin - I know women that can put you to shame - really disappointing comment from Kris - he should know better - and Ben noticed too and was also shocked - stupid thing to say - Ben that was an awesome back educational workout ! MI40 Nation!

Tried this out in my gym today. Completely changed my approach to a back workout in the best way. Crazy DOMS tomorrow for sure. Thanks BPak.
This is ridiculous, I was usually doing one db rows with 16 kg, now I was doing it with 8 kg and it was so much harder and pump was crazy. Thank you so much Ben, much love

Ben you have the best video bro! I like your training philosophy.
I'm learning from both Chris and Ben, if Chris sees applicable benefit; is then I think it's worth a try. I've learned a lot from ppl who are trying to teach the learning hungry a good path. BPak is the next great guru. That gym is awesome too
This looks like the greatest gym on planet earth. I need to workout here.
The music playing is literally identical to my playlist. Slipknot, korn, breaking Benjamin etc!
I felt what he felt, doing this workout feel the pain smile enduring each rep. I friggen love this pull down, and as you pull down pull outwards with an inner wrist turn. Deadly workout, a couple days after your haunted in pain. Hows the boy Ben? Must be getting big?
Finally a new video and I can't hear it on my I pad 😓

Anyone know who makes the row machine @ 18:35 ?
Most of the equipment is from Prime, some are specificlly designed for Ben though.
Give me more of such videos!
What are your plans concerning competition, Ben?
What is the different between MI40 and MI40x?
Nice

Is this the guy that trained with Dorian? Looks like him, but I can't be sure.
+J Lee Yeah it is :)

yes it is ...Dorian worked him out in his blood and guts video
I'm not sure, but he follows a LOT of Dorians principles, of the HIT style of training. The Mike Mentzer philosophy

4:11 you know which song is good ;)
What’s this song I remember it but forgot about it 😂
Ben you are THE GOAT.
more vids

I hear these people say the same. Lightest workout, slowest workout but most brutal. But I never see any if them continue this type of training to show actual results
Ben's the best along with Hany Rambod. These guys are any intelligent lifter's secret weapon.

2 great nattys
how can you possibly progress in weight with using such light weight and aggresively strict form
Ben looks huge.
first
the more ben speaks the easier it is to believe that hes won nothing of any significance.
like winning an ifbb pro show? getting second in an arnold classic?
Kris Gethin " what weight I just do "- That's what women < do "i should be wearing a petty coat" -- (jerk) Really unprofessional thing to say Kris Gethin - I know women that can put you to shame - really disappointing comment from Kris - he should know better - and Ben noticed too and was also shocked - stupid thing to say - Ben that was an awesome back educational workout ! White knight alert...
he is a clown
This way of working out probably works better for physique purposes but bro is it boring af hahah
At least your joints stay healthy unlike with the 70 times a weak heavy squatting cultism
So it’s depress & retract then pull then let the arm go then let the scaps protract?
Excited to train back today after watching this now 😭😈
That is one badass looking gym
