- Sir Percy Blakeney, aka The Scarlet Pimpernel, pretends to be a silly fop so no one will suspect he secretly aids French aristocrats during the bloody French Revolution. He vies for the attention of a French actress named Margarite. In order to do so, he has to outdo her other suitor, Paul Chauvelin.
And boy, does he ever.

I really love this version of the Scarlet Pimpernel. It does a wonderful job of portraying the public Percy as an incredible fop and a fool while showing that the private Percy is actually a very intelligent and brave hero.
I still tell people to this day that their tailors have betrayed them
"what is it you Fenchies say? Tou-chet? You see, I'm a but of a poet, and you did not know it. What?" BEST LINE EVER!!!
this is without a doubt my all time favorite movie. i have grown up with it ever since i was but a child, and has become the movie to watch, should you fall ill. there is no other way to recover, then to spend the day in the company of Sir. Percival Blakeney.
Bonecolektor ...same here! When i was like 5 i went as the pimpernel for halloween lol
I don't think I've laughed so much watching a movie. My mom and brothers watched it a few years ago for the first time. It was so entertaining waiting to see what Percy was gonna say next. This movie has been a legend in our home ever since.
Another LOL movie is Pride and Prejudice, the version with Colin Firth. Mrs. Bennet is hilarious.
@@kikia6611 Yes I’ve seen that one and agree. Although it is too long.
@@joeydoherty368 I know, but at least there are the best of Mrs. Bennet freak out clips here on RUclips lol.
Sink me, I can hardly bring myself to look upon em. I love this movie!
I first saw this movie in 1982. I looked it up recently after the Paris riots started up a month ago. Love it still.
think about it. this book was written over 100 years ago. sir percy was the 1st "super hero". alter ego, like clark kent (superman), bruce wayne (batman) etc. ya dig.
Dig it! A lot of the tropes with Scarlet Pimpernel: secret identity and disguises during "missions", signature/calling car, portraying themselves as effete or meek, ability to scheme/outwit the opponent are all now commonplace with masked heroes from Zorro to Batman using them due to Orczy's novel.
@@rubix41 So true, and watching this movie again for the first time in many years had me laughing out loud!
Percy was the OG superhero
You’re tailors have betrayed you!!
Odds fish, my dear fellow!
+Jasmine Byerley I use lines from the film sometimes in California, and people ask “what?!”. I tell them “The Scarlet Pimpernel, with Anthony Andrews. Give it a watch”. 😆 Thumbs-Up #6 I am, Tuesday afternoon 11 Dec 2018.
Thumbs-Up #241 I am, Thursday evening 22 November 2018! This is my favorite British movie. ‘‘Tis none better, to me! I have seen the first version as well. Anthony Andrews and Jane Seymour are my preference!
I love this movie too. And the sound track is perfection. So glad it's available on RUclips.
My absolute favorite part!!!! Love this movie, to the moon and back!
sir ian is pretty dashing here. percy is SO out there it's hard to keep a straight face
Sink me, this is one of the best movie's. They don't make them like this any more!
Sink me, this film is brilliant!
Percy: Lost count
Chauvelin: 0
SINK ME!
This is actually one of my favorite Ian Mckellen films; he was absolutely wonderful in this. Thanks for uploading.
😎👌 Sir Percy says all about mine fashion - philosophy too.
LOL - so true! I love it! 🌠
Percy is da Pimp(pernel) when it comes to trolling the French and wooing the ladies. XD
The poshest burn ever! What a scene!!! :D The Frenchie got owned!
sink meh, if Sir Percy was not the 1st "superhero" in literature.
Mon-Sewer! XD XD XD Sink meh, by Jove, I believe one has been trolled!
Stab me, but I think Madame Bow--has a crush--don't you know...
sink me, if i haven't seen it over and over.........
I love this scene!!!
'Od's Fish! I do verily love this movie.
Fantastic movie.
Awesome movie!
Ha, hilarious! Your comments have just the right amount of sarcasm and silliness to embellish this subversive story!
Oh, dear....Now I'm starting to sound like Sir Percy =)
I love that guy!!!
So Gandalf was young at one time.
Check that movie out? Don't tell me what to do!!
pleasure I can show you, it’s all mine😂❤👌🏻
He says "I can assure you"
percys hot!
hahahahha!! PWN!!! :D
Sink meee
That yankee better watch how he talks to magneto.
And Gandalf. lol
I ask you!
It's like a poor imitation of Leslie Howard's Percy.
HOGEFAN Not for me. I think Mr. Andrews struck just the right balance between seriousness and humor necessary to play Percy convincingly, especially in his ability to change "roles" (fop, dashing mystery hero, ardent suitor to reluctantly estranged husband and back again) seemingly as easily as flipping a switch.
For me, it's mostly in the eyes. Here, for example, he's so clearly laughing silently at the irony of the situation before him, but only shows the fop, no matter how he might wish to behave otherwise just now.
Seeing Sir Percy emasculate poor Chauvelin, in front of his beloved no less, is one of the most entertaining and brutal scenes in television history, bar none. I'faith, we could all stand to learn something from Sir Percy.
InfernalGoose Sink me! Well Said!
percys hot!
That is a very young Gandalf
every time Percy says "I ask you!!" haha i crack up. His voice gets so high it's adorable
+itsAlyssaO 😆
Anthony Andrews, like Jeremy Brett, excelled in period stories (Danger UXB, Brideshead Revisited, and here). It's hard to believe such a handsome, graceful, charming actor could be living in our graceless times.
That's some top Georgian banter.
This scene is the equivalent from Leslie Howard's version of "The Scarlet Pimpernel", "there's nothing in the world as bad as something, which is not so bad". Odds fish, my dear fellow!
SINK ME, I LOVE THIS MOVIE!
The British jack sparrow
Holy shit that's Gandalf.
Footzerg what?
YOU JUST GOT OWNED BOIII
I love this movie! And this scene is my favorite by far!
This scene is fantastic, I love it.
Oh, goodness, I love this movie and this scene. Cracks me up every time. Every film version of The Scarlet Pimpernel that I've ever seen has a similar scene in which Percy and Chauvelin first meet and Percy makes things incredibly awkward, but sink me, this one takes the cake!
whistlingninja11 ...then let them eat cake! #PieceOfCake
I love this movie so much.
No-one outclasses Leslie Howard as Percy in the 1934 version NOONE, if this was your first then I shan't convince you but Howards charisma vastly outweighs the competition, SINK MEH if it isn't so
Have you seen this movie? You've got to watch it. It's a family favorite over here. We know most of it by heart. But this is our favorite scene.
Sorry about the late answer... I swear I saw it just a couple of times on TV when I was a kid (and dubbed to latin spanish), and never again. I still can´t take it of my mind!
Great!!! Thanks!
i love percys voice
percys hot!
percys hot!

@CassandraMotou The "owned" song? Sounds fun, what is it?
