Dilophosaurus venenifer, the two-faced, frill-necked, Dennis Nedry's killer and poison-spitting terror in the Jurassic Park/World universe. Dilophosaurus (meaning "double-crested reptile") in real life was one of the largest carnivorous dinosaurs of the Early Jurassic Period. Dilophosaurus gets its name from the two thin crests of bone on the top of its head. These were probably used as a display for courtship purposes (it's unlikely that it had a frill like the movie suggests). Dilophosaurus has been found in both the U.S. and China, which, although part of the same huge landmass, were still quite a long distance from each other. Another species, D. sinensis from China, was named in 1993, but was later found to belong to the genus Sinosaurus. As a more primitive predatory dinosaur, Dilophosaurus didn't have forward facing eyes to give it stereo vision. It may have used scent as an integral part of its hunting technique. It had long and slender, rear-curving teeth in long jaws and strong front arms which would have been effective in grabbing prey. It was fast - probably with a top speed of about 30-mph. It also had a long tail that could have been used as a whip in a fight. Footprints attributed to Dilophosaurus appear in groups, so it may have hunted in small packs. It shares the same overall body configuration as Coelophysis even though Dilophosaurus is currently classified as a member of a different group of theropods rather than Coelophysis and its relatives.
Dilophosaurus venenifer (meaning "poisonous double-crested reptile"), 6-6.7 m (20-22 ft) in body length, 1.8-3 m (6-10 ft) in height, and 181 kg (400 lbs)-1 ton (2,000 lbs) in weight. Code name: Spitter or Dilo. Diet: Carnivore. Range: Isla Nublar and Isla Sorna. Birth type: Egg. Preferred Habitat: Heavily forested terrain near a water source.
Creation: Seventeen Dilophosaurus were recreated by InGen in their compound on Isla Sorna where they raised by the workers there until a few months had passed where five were transported to the neighboring island of Isla Nublar for InGen's Jurassic Park. They resided in the Dilophosaur Paddock of the park. The cloned Dilophosaurus had very abnormal traits that the original never had. These traits include a frill, venom glands, and a skull that resembled dromaeosaurids like Deinonychus and InGen's recreation of Velociraptor. The Dilophosaurus clones could spit venom at a range of 6 meters (20 feet) and would aim for their prey's face to stun it before the Dilophosaurus would come in for the kill. The frill would expand and rattle when attacking or when preparing to attack. They also were smaller than their original counterpart. Irs' likely that Dr. Henry Wu's inclusion of frog DNA or a splicing error that was responsible for the abnormal traits seen in the cloned Dilophosaurs. This is most likely possible, as Dr. Wu noted that Dilophosaurus genetic structure was compatible with the DNA of Dendrobates leucomelas (Yellow-banded poison dart frog).
Jurassic park: The Game: More was added for the Dilophosaurs in the game, like evidence that the Dilphosaurs in the films were juveniles. Juveniles would hunt in packs, but only the leader was allowed to disable prey. It is unknown if the adults hunted in packs like the younger individuals. Dr. Laura Sorkin believed it was Dr. Henry Wu's inclusion of frog DNA or a splicing error that was responsible for the abnormal traits seen in the cloned Dilophosaurs, or at least the juveniles.
Trivia: In the movie, Dilophosaurus had a green color with dark markings, and its frill was a bright yellow with red patterns, but in Jurassic Park: The Game, it was a gray color with red markings, and its frill is gray as well, with a red circular line.
Dilophosaurus was also very different from its real-life counterpart, made significantly smaller to make sure audiences did not confuse it with the raptors. Its neck frill and its ability to spit venom are fictitious. Its vocal sounds were made by combining a swan, a hawk, a howler monkey, and a rattlesnake. The animatronic model, nicknamed "Spitter" by Stan Winston's team, was animated by the puppeteers sitting on a trench in the set floor, and used a paintball mechanism to spit the mixture of methacyl and K-Y Jelly that served as venom.
Description: Bipedal carnivore. Pair of semi-circular crests on top of the head. Large frill of vibrantly-colored skin which usually lies folded back against its head and neck, capable of fanning out and vibrating when the animal is angered, scared, or playful.

    • @kevinlashley2604
      @kevinlashley2604 6 лет назад +1

Social structure: Dilophosaurus is a pack-dwelling species. The male offspring are chased from their natal packs a few weeks prior to the females, and each gender forms small same-sexed packs. Upon reaching breeding age, the male "bachelor" packs will purposely seek out these female packs, whereby they will mix as they form mating pairs. Being patriarchal in society a male will establish himself as dominant over his brothers, and he will choose the strongest, most assertive female as his mate. It is the males which actively fight rivaling males which may try to steal the females away.
Colouration: Male: An olive green, with green blotches and some white striping on the body and crests, and a red and yellow mottled frill. Female and juvenile (both sexes): Like the male, only a more drab green and paler markings.
Breeding season: Wet season, as the rivers and bodies of water are an important part of their mating rituals.
Behaviors: Dilophosaurus is an elusive and nocturnal dinosaur. It is a recognizable animal, sporting a pair of semi-circular crests on top of its head. Individuals use these for display or communication, with elaborate head-bobbing accompanied by hooting calls. Another spectacular feature of this dinosaur is its frill of membranous skin that can be expanded like a cobra's hood around its neck. The frill is vibrantly colored, especially in males, and can be used to 'hypnotize' prey, or to warn off enemies before delivering a bite or spitting. The frill is capable of being vibrated, making a loud rattling sound. Also known as the "spitter", Dilophosaurus gets its nickname from its ability to spray a thick, black gooey substance at its victim to a distance of up to 20 feet. This substance has the odor and texture of vomit and it is possible the dinosaur mixes powerful acids from its stomach with venom produced from its venom ducts prior to release. The substance causes burning of the skin and immediate blindness if delivered to the eyes. Dilophosaurus venomous saliva allows the animal to take down much larger prey than its teeth and claws would otherwise allow. As well as spitting, Dilophosaurus can also inoculate its venom by biting prey and then releasing, waiting for the victim to die, similar in fashion to a Komodo Dragon. Once entered into the bloodstream, the venom causes extreme pain and eventual paralysis. Juveniles and sub-adults are very playful and inquisitive, often playfully torturing their prey before killing it, while adults are usually more reserved and direct in their hunting strategies.
Breeding behaviors: Courtship in Dilophosaurus is rather elaborate in comparison to other dinosaurs on Isla Sorna. Taking place near a body of fresh water such as a river or stream, a male and female Dilophosaurus pair will first take turns to drink water then hoot and snarl at each other. This process can last for several hours. Following this, the male will initiate a mating dance to reel the female in. The male stands to his full height, tilting his head back to extend his frill a little way to allow the female to get a good look at the bright splodges of color. The male moves around the female in a circular pattern, bobbing his head to display the crests atop his head. If receptive, the female will follow his steps, bobbing her head in time with the male, mirroring his movements. The dance ends with the two Dilophosaurs poised side by side, necks taut and heads tilted skyward. Mating occurs immediately afterwards, and more mating's may occur within the next few days without the mating ritual beforehand. When the next time for breeding comes round, the same pair will perform the same ritual to renew the bonds between them. Dilophosaurus pairs mate for life, and both parents aid in nest construction, egg incubation and chick rearing. However if the female happens to die, her mate may either attempt to steal a female from one of his brothers, or leave the pack to search for a new mate elsewhere. If it is the female which is left mateless, she typically remains so unless a new male tries to court her. Being more attached to her sisters, a female is more likely to remain with her pack rather than leave it, even if it means never reproducing again.
Individuals in a pack communicate by making a variety of hooting, whistling and squeaking sounds. When aggressive, Dilophosaurus produces a hissing scream which, in combination with the rattling frill, can be particularly deafening.
Dilophosaurus was featured in the 1990 novel Jurassic Park, by the American writer Michael Crichton, and its 1993 movie adaptation by the American director Steven Spielberg. The Dilophosaurus of Jurassic Park was acknowledged as the "only serious departure from scientific veracity" in the movie's making-of book, and as the "most fictionalized" of the movie's dinosaurs in a book about Stan Winston Studios, which created the animatronics effects. For the novel, Crichton invented the dinosaur's ability to spit venom (explaining how it was able to kill prey, in spite of its seemingly weak jaws). The movie's art department added another feature, a cowl folded against its neck that expanded and vibrated as the animal prepared to attack, similar to that of the frill-necked lizard. To avoid confusion with the Velociraptor featured in the movie, Dilophosaurus is presented as only 1.2 meters (4 ft) tall, instead of its assumed true height of about 3.0 meters (10 ft). Nicknamed "the spitter", the Dilophosaurus of the movie was realized through puppeteering, and required a full body with three interchangeable heads to produce the actions required in the script. Separate legs were also constructed for a shot where the dinosaur hops by. Unlike most of the other dinosaurs in the movie, no computer-generated imagery was employed when showing the Dilophosaurus.
That is until Jurassic World (2015) where the Dilo appeared in cg for the first time, but in a hologram form.

With them being mentioned on the website, I’ve got some hope to see Allosaurus here somewhere. They’re a super big dinosaur importance wise being the apex predator of the Jurassic period, and with them making their movie debut in Fallen kingdom it would be totally cool to see an updated version of them in the game. It would also add another tie in with JPOG, which could draw even more players in.

Can't wait. Going to get the deluxe edition :) What I hope for expansion/DLC is Aquatic dinosaurs like the 1 from the film (forgot name) and also dinosaurs from the fallen kingdom.

Woah, in the shot where the Dilophosaurus is eating, the rain made a pool of blood on the dead carcass. Jesus that's realistic.

For all those people who are interested whether their is no Kayenta on dig-map:
Map also contains Cleveland Lloyd Dinosaur Quarry and Cedar Mountain which are relatively close to the Kayenta.

It's got a peculiar stance, kinda splayed out and squatting. Though, I will say that I really love its mannerisms. It's not nearly as twitchy as the raptors, but rather more cautious. Demonstrably not above attacking though. Also, I've always loved the sounds it made, and that hasn't changed in the slightest.

Annnd, I really hope we get to see them being adult sized. They were around ten feet tall, twenty feet long. In the book, Nedry is lifted off the ground BY HIS HEAD by the Dilophosaurus that is hunting him. The one in the movie and, basically, everything associated with Jurassic park, has only been a juvenile.
