    One of these days I was wondering about a reverb tank inside a strat, this is basically it and it sounds very nice indeed.

    • @heavymetalATC
      @heavymetalATC  3 года назад +7

      Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment lime dude LOL. Yes a lot of players will use something like foam or toilet paper to stop the springs in a strat from ringing. I like to use 4-5 of them and tighten them up and let the pickups barely pick up that sound and it just makes the guitar more lively sounding to me.

    @TheRamsberg Год назад +5

    I'm not sure if anybody has mentioned it, but the springs in a reverb tank oscillate in a rotative fashion, not in a back and forth motion like a guitar string. They twist, like a motor. So your spring reverb is a wondrous thing of it's own!!!
    Also, massive thanks for the tip on where to get high quality piezo diaphragms!!!

    Just wondering if you will ever post a video where you try an idea and it doesn't work. I had my doubts on this one, but got to say you got some mellow tones out of it. Yep , I listened all way thru and enjoyed the Jazzy vibes you were sending us. Looking forward to your next video.

      Thank you so much Glenn. I think with some tuning and tinkering this setup could sound pretty killer. I was happy it worked but it didn't exactly have dripping wet reverb. It did have a cool super retro lo-fi 78rpm record kinda sound and I liked it and was surprised by that. Thanks again for all your correspondence and participation on the channel Glenn. It really helps to keep me motivated.

Welcome and feel free to ask any questions you have. Im not an @sshole I'll try to respond as soon as I can and answer to the best of my ability. Thank you so much Matsch. I think that with more tinkering and tuning this setup could sound really good. I was however surprised by the sound it had as it was very nostalgic and reminded me of old 78 rpm records.

      Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to leave such a kind comment Spaceandstuff. Its probably my own doing I am bad about having periods where I don't upload for 6 months to a year and then I'll do 1-2 videos a week for 6 months then off again etc. The algorythem and the viewers don't know what to do with me LOL. Im about to start a back on period again though and this time I plan to ease in and stay steady so I don't burn out.

      Thank you P Cee. I used to get quite a bit more views a year or 2 ago but I took a long break and its just now starting to catch back up in the algorithm. If I get there that would be awesome but at the same time it seems I have a bunch of really cool viewers that get what it is Im trying to do and appreciate it and thats a very rare thing and I feel lucky for it.

    I know it's an older video, but I wonder if you could revisit this idea, but using the springs already in the trem cavity? I had an old Jackson where the springs were noisy as all get out... could it work? Love the videos. I'm absolutely regarded when it comes to electronical smartitude. I feel like with some more of these, i got a chance to get learned up proper.

    hey I have a simple idea I just don't know if anyone tried yet. Would you make a ferrite coil to clamp potential magnetic interference from the room (it can still happen even with humbuckers) and test if it works and/or if it changes the tone..?
    GREAT VIDEOS btw!! I always enjoy!

      @heavymetalATC  3 года назад +1

      Thank you Rob, I tried to respond to this earlier but it didnt send I guess. That is a great Idea. I bet it would make laser blaster sounds like a guide wire on a power pole. Thanks for the suggestion. I will put this in my note and if/when I make a video about it I will give you a shout-out.

    I have this idea to make what I call a "true metal distortion pedal" that works really similar to a.....'very broken on purpose' spring reverb tank with a tone stack. It wouldn't be inside a guitar, but this really makes me think it could work!

  • @totallyunmemorable
    @totallyunmemorable Год назад

    When I was a kid, I used to "play" the cables attached to the springs that were part of the mechanism that made the garage door easier to open/close . . . speaking of reverb. Hook up a guitar to that, and if you don't get arrested, well, you probably didn't do it right.

    • @heavymetalATC
      @heavymetalATC  Год назад +2

      Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment totallyunmemorable. That's an awesome idea. I'll have to see if I can find a door with the right setup to get at those cables. I did just consider using the guide wire on a power service pole? maybe these are both good ideas for a "improvised reverbs" episode sometime in the future. Great suggestion!

      Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Its not really a great guitar but it works for this purpose I got it at a thrift store for very cheap. Plays a lot like an Ibanez RG has a very thin neck and the factory pickups aren't the best but they worked fine. Its exactly the same as this one: www.ebay.com/itm/233847864641?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-213727-13078-0&mkcid=2&itemid=233847864641&targetid=4580909047880289&device=c&mktype=&googleloc=&poi=&campaignid=410490132&mkgroupid=1236950807734171&rlsatarget=pla-4580909047880289&abcId=9300490&merchantid=51291&msclkid=8824d540b94a14bf35fab524d7c48e33

    so you can use a small dc motor to send to the springs .. pieso on other end

    • @heavymetalATC
      @heavymetalATC  6 месяцев назад

      If you slammed it hard enough it might work well. might need a little arm for "leverage" I used to use dc motors from toys as speaker drivers just that way and I know it will play music on a funnel made of paper.

  • @alaricpaley6865

    You should get a screw terminal block for the mule guitar so you don't have alligator clips in the way of your strumming. I look at them clips and just go "I would have fuckin' snagged these on something and pulled wires out of the guitar"

    • @heavymetalATC
      @heavymetalATC  3 года назад +1

      As always thanks for watching and taking the time to comment Alaric. That is a great Idea!... that being said I doubt I will do it as you can see from the way I build stuff I'm rather lazy with details. I never did expect to be doing all this stuff with the guitar I just set it up for testing pickups and that worked pretty good the wires would tuck into the cavity. For a while I just had bare wires I would twist LOL. Also with so much different stuff going on with the guitar. It would probably still end up with clips on it. The green clip on the demo part was an extra ground from the bridge to the little amp board but the 2 white clips do run to a ground screw... you know mad scientist style. It is however a capital idea and the right way to do it and I had never considered it. Maybe in the future I'll get another cheap guitar and do it that way. Thanks again Alaric.
