I always felt bad for having simple handwriting, especially because my teachers always told me that my handwriting wasn't necessarily up to their standards. But ever since I started watching your channel a few months back, I realized my handwriting has a few green flags and I've come to appreciate it more!! I dont feel bad about my signature anymore because it looks very much like my handwriting! So thank you Leah for making me feel a bit better about myself :D

This gives off horoscope and star sign vibes. Sounds like a way to make people feel unique and affirm their own general positive traits about themselves through something as trivial as handwriting

    • @ruum9

Lowkey doesnt make sense to me how you stand up for yourself because your lowercase K looks uppercase. Sometimes you're just in a hurry and write fast so the K looks messed up. I don't think it's that deep. You can tell General traits about someone's personality from their handwriting, but specific traits from the way a letter is written feels like a little too much

So it has real useful applications. It's not the same as the horoscope which is purely misleading people into throwing their money away and being manipulated. Also, graphology has evolved and self-criticised and improved over time, so that argument doesn't apply.

Because I was a lefty taught to be a righty, my writing is print, with some fluid connections from years of practice.
I knew it felt wrong when I was taught to hold the pencil with my right hand, but I assumed that writing was supposed to feel that way.
I have different signatures as well depending on the purpose. I have one for business documents, and ones for my art, and one that I'd use if I were signing autographs.
My handwriting also varies with my mood.
I've since learned to write as a lefty, but it's hard to be as exact as I am with my right, and it's far slower, so I often don't use it.

Woah, as somebody who's learned to write with their non-dominant (right) hand, I also usually use it for writing in print. However, I wasn't forced to switch hands, so I believe I may have made the conscious decision to write in that style. Still, I wonder if it's common for forced righties to write in print, as writing with one's non-dominant hand tends to feel more unnatural.

Man, I am a lefty all the way. I’d love to learn how to write with my right hand - as well as play guitar, with my right.
Especially with the health issues I have - my left side can get a bit sore.
I have this theory, about doing mirror exercises.. It’s similar to how amputees with phantom pains will do exercises in the mirror, with their remaining limb.
The brain registers it as the limb, which, was amputated - so, it allows the brain to build new neural pathways, to a limb it believes exists, vs. the one that no longer does.
I’m wondering if practicing, say, the guitar in the mirror, as a lefty, would allow my brain to shift easier into playing right handed - being I am, like, SUPER left-handed.
Which, is a bit of a bitch - being most guitars come right-handed..

There is something called reverse graphotherapy where people change aspects in their handwriting on purpose. From what I’ve heard, it works to change personality traits but I haven’t really done much research. I think if someone were to start deliberately placing their t bars higher their drive to succeed would increase, kinda like subliminal messaging because it’s working with the unconscious mind…. Does that make sense haha 😭😭😭

Thank you for this list of positive traits. Green flags, nice idea. I saw your interview w Sheila Lowe recently. I know her from the American Handwriting Analysis Foundation. People may comment calling handwriting analysis pseudoscience. Rarely if ever do they site their experience of having a professional, certified analyst, ( as I am) prepare a thorough analysis using established handwriting theory. We keep trying to educate people that nothing means very much by itself. The context and gestalt of the writing gets to the true underlying personality and helps people understand their real selves.
    Well done, Leah.

As less and less people write on a daily basis, judging their character based on their handwriting seems mis guided.
I learned to write in cursive growing up. My handwritting was always pretty and legible for a guy... I persued a career in engineering technology and havent written much down in years. My handwriting, now, is messy and I only do it when I have to quickly jot something down when a keyboard isnt available. How do you assess my character based on that?
I'm 27. What can you say about the people younger than me who use laptops instead of notebooks in elementary school. Handwriting, for them, is just a task narrowed down to written essays within time constraints during exams; Not exactly fair conditions for judging their character based on how they write.

My handwriting originally came from being over competitive. In grade school we would have hand writing tasks to complete and my only goal was to get it done as fast as possible. So from that point on, my handwriting has had lots of fluidity but is very hard to read. I even remember my teacher telling me to stop writing in cursive because she couldn't read it. It's still borderline cursive now, I just barely lift the pen off the page for each letter, so there is some distinction.
I can write in a simple more structured style when I slow down, but that's my sort of performative style when I wish for it to look good.

    • @phatcat3705
      @phatcat3705 Год назад

Oh my gosh. This is the EXACT SAME for me with my handwriting because mine is just like this. I always write in print but it looks half like cursive, and, if I don't look at my notes often, I sometimes find MYSELF not being able to read my own handwriting; in grade school, it was common to have my teachers hand back my tests with "sloppy work" written at the top, and I also remember starting a job taking food orders during my college years and my boss and co-workers making jokes about my writing looking like a doctors' signature (they got used to it quickly, though). 😆 I find that I'm capable of writing legibly and in a style that looks more like a proper print but only if I write very slowly, but I have no patience for that so find myself still using fluidity.
And I've always been annoyingly competitive, especially when I was younger, so maybe not a coincidence.
But, overall, I'm glad to see that this falls under the Green Flag category because I always got negatively for my penmanship. (And I do have a knack for creative problem-solving).

I've always had awful handwriting. Some days I can barely read it myself. As an engineer, back in the day, you had to have perfect penmanship for engineering drawings. So, my style has developed as a mix of block and cursive. In my 40s, my handwriting started to get really bad. I could barely hold a pen and my writing was quite jagged. Thought I was getting parkinsons. Thankfully, not that, but it was definitely a serious medical condition.
These days, I can tell the state of my health by my handwriting. If its relaxed and fluid, I know I'm doing pretty good. My handwriting can be all over the place from one day to the next like a different person is writing. I should probably see if I can correlate my styles to which disease is flaring up. The engineer in me thinks, I could figure it out if I wanted to. lol
I think this would be a great topic for a future video. I'd love to hear what you know about handwriting and illness and signs to watch out for. Are there specific illnesses that can be identified just by looking at a person's handwriting?

But after hearing about how it shows someone who has backbone and has problems with authority, that felt like a total call out lmao. So, thanks Leah for making me like my K’s again!

I think the main reason people do fancy signatures is so they're harder to copy. atleast that's what ive always thought and that's why I think always think I need to change mine because its so easy to do and not confusing to follow at all meaning someone could copy it so easily

    Your videos are so interesting!
Some years ago, an organization with which I'm affiliated needed to fill a temporary spot to complete a particular project. Someone asked me to apply for that spot, and several other folks also applied. I ended up getting the position, and later learned that the lady with whom I would be working studied handwriting analysis. Apparently she had decided that she wanted me to come work with her on that particular job, based, in part, on something she'd seen in my handwriting. Of course it helped that I passed the interview, but I found that interesting, then, and now.

4:30 -- Fluidity! I had to pause the video to listen again and comment here! I am so excited because the description matches how I described both my handwriting and my personality when commenting on the Red Flags video a mere moment ago! Although I described some letter shapes as lazy or incomplete, "efficient" is certainly a better description, because I have the problem-solving personality type you described here.
There were a few other Green Flags that described my handwriting style too.
😊 You made me feel awesome. Thank you!!

Regarding the signature, it's worth bearing in mind. In the 20th century, people would have to sign every time they made a card purchase or wrote a cheque. Therefore, people would purposefully make their signatures overly elaborate as a security measure, to make it more difficult to forge. So if the person is over 40, their crazy squiggle (that doesn't match their handwriting) might just be a result of that.

One thing you might find interesting is that when I joined the Navy we were all forced to write in all caps. My wife has letters from me where I have words that alternate caps and lower case until you can see it clicked and now all I do is write in all caps and it's been 9 years since I got out. Also my signature is basically tthe first letteer of my first and last name and maybe one letter elongated from it. That also came from the military and signing a ton of documents back to back that I just said screw it it cut it down

Green flags ... for your personal preferences only. A narrow perspective. Also, balance? It is normal to overemphasize the middle zone in adolescence, and for some types to emphasize the upper zone if they are more into ideas, spiritual experiences. And so on. We tend to explore different things at different times in our life. Overall balance may be achieved yet at certain ages there is an emphasis on one zone or another.

    2- Lust (extremely lower)
    3- A lot of waves
5-I use really a lot of garlands
    6- My rythm is irregular
7- I had tried to create a creative signature with a secret message in it to be discovered and beautifully written but since nothing was good enough, it's just the same as my handwriting: my name and a line over it LOL
8- fluidity + sometimes anxiety breaks
    9- unpredictable baselines
    10- simple handwriting

I had always thought that if a detective would have had my handwriting analysed, it would come back as undetermined. I write fountain pen, ball pen, pencil, trained cursive, full on CAPS, into straight gibberish wriggly scribbles. All within the same sentence, if not the same words. Add in a healthy dose of hand tremors and you have yourself a party. None of it is intentional, it just happens.
If enough time passes I sometimes don't even recognize my handwriting for my own.

I watched your green and red flag video and noticed someone in the comments poo-poo-ed your ideas as pseudoscience. As someone who has had to fill out handwritten forms for my job for over a decade on a daily basis, your assessment of a stressed/tense/hurried person and a creative problem solver are spot on. My job involves all sorts of on-the-spot planning and engineering, overcoming all sorts of unforeseen problems, but on a budget of both time and money. As someone who was constantly under a time crunch, who often had to share very specific information as fast a possible, but still retain legibility, I found myself developing almost what I call my own system of shorthand that wasn't perfect block printing or cursive, but something that developed in between, that could sometimes get a bit compressed, or have breaks, due to tension.
A small tidbit I couldn't help but notice in the red flag video, the more cursive looking lower case "d" letters, start to look like an uppercase "i" and wouldn't be surprised if some of the more warped individuals indulged in writing an uppercase "i" in place of the lowercase "d", as they had a superiority complex, which makes perfect sense for example, in the case of serial killers.
I also wanted to point out that I think some people are uncomfortable with the idea that they can be so easily seen right through by others, with something as simple as a handwriting sample, or they are paranoid that a sample written when they were under extreme stress or less than ideal writing conditions, could contribute to their sample being misjudged. I find as someone who gets into statistics, as a means of forensics, it can be quite eye opening to begin to see what can be proved by what seems insignificant and undecipherable.

@@richardbutler9217 , with some of the items, I didn't see a correlation, but I am no handwriting expert or behavioral scientist either. I have found with statistical research for example, when you start attempting to combine the use of various scientific fields to form conclusions, you have to have sufficient knowledge in them, which can take the better part of a lifetime to master for many. That said, I do believe the truth is self evident, regardless of who is willing to ackowledge it.

    • @LeahEckardt
      @LeahEckardt  Год назад +3

print writers don't connect their writing, so you most likely wont see it in the writing of print, but in general an anxiety break will make the handwriting slow down, of break the rhytym, and if the break doesn't hurt the speed than its intuitive. kinda hard to describe, but this is another way to look for it if that makes sense :D

Since I found your channel I've been trying to improve my handwriting lately. Thinking about they way I was taught in early schooling makes me wonder about either my teacher or who wrote that part of the curriculum. I've never been fast with writing neatly and often I tend to spell the words out in my head or even forget how to draw an individual letter (oh why are b's and d's a mirror image?). This leads to ink bleeding spots on the paper if I use anything other than a ball point or, oddly enough, a cheap fountain pen. I find sometimes the letters bunch up on longer words as my hand doesn't move easily on the paper. Otherwise, my quick note taking writing is quite different.

I've always wondered how my handwriting would look to someone who analyzes handwriting. My writing isn't my own, but instead copied from other's. When I would see a letter I liked growing up I took it and replaced my letter with it instead. I started in middle school because my father would scream at me over my writing. My brother told me he copied his ex-fiance's writing 20 years ago and that's what gave me the idea. That's how I improved my handwriting. My writing has about 16 different people's letters.

Like it varies depending on how I'm sitting, what I'm writing, where I'm writing etc.
It'll go from barely legable cursive to small fine print to big print to whatever
Does that just mean I'm an unpredictable person??

6:40 - That's my handwriting after about thirty minutes of writing. But, I have a writing disability. So, it's not like it's intentional. It was a whole process getting through school, as that period of my life, was right at the break of computers.
It would actually be hard to do a handwriting analysis of me, because I do have dysgraphia. That's what originally made me interested in this video, was to see what you'd think about my writing. And sure enough, I've found it. Though, there is a lot of disorganization in my thinking processes. But when I sit down and write neatly, and my hand isn't getting weak, I'd like to see what she says about it.
It's also amazing how providence works. I saw this video, it encouraged me to look through my notebooks---I have about forty of them---and I found a poem about Mother's Day. I still have to write my Mother's Day Poem. Lol.
