  • Lynx demonstrates its versatility in the air and on the battlefield. Various weapon fits and trials are shown, including firing trials of the anti tank missile TOW.
    The Army Lynx first flew in 1977 as Lynx AH.1. The initial role as a utility helicopter, a tactical troop and stores carrier, airborne command, and for casualty evacuation was expanded with the addition of air-to-ground missiles, cannon and rockets for armed reconnaissance, armed escort, anti-tank and air-to-surface strike roles.
    The Lynx has been a key asset to the AAC for just over 38 years, having first taken to the skies in June 1977 and being retired from service in 2015. Throughout the long and illustrious career of the Lynx, it has seen service in over 22 active conflicts including Operation Agricola in Kosovo, Operation Banner in Northern Island and more recently Operation Herrick in Afghanistan. It has been in service with 17 different AAC squadrons as well as being operated by numerous other users - both within the UK (including the Empire Test Pilot School/ rotary wing test and evaluation squadron) and overseas with foreign forces.

    Unbelievably maneuverable Helicopter !
    A Helicopter capable of performing 720 degrees of roll and a cobra maneuver backwards!

    It’s a shame the army Wildcat is only really used for recon and utility now😔
    I’d love to see the Wildcat with some rockets😅. The Wildcat is so versatile and agile and I think it deserves more action, rather than just the dirty work it has to put up with at the moment

    • @cra83
      @cra83 3 года назад +3

      I guess the Apache replaced it in that role but I’d say it’s possible to add AGM systems to the wildcat if needed?

      The AH 64 the army has now can do a better job taking out tanks and other but the army should have kept the Lynx for troop transport and small cargo. They have put a lot onto the Wildcat asking it to do more. The Lynx is one of the best things the UK has ever made.

      @@RJM1011 The Wildcat is still able to transport troops and cargo when needed, but I just don’t think it sees as much front line action as it could do. I think it’s a very capable helicopter, but it’s just being restrained.

    • @BritishHelicoptersHistory
      @BritishHelicoptersHistory  Год назад

      I don't believe the Lynx was ever used as RAF rescue because in the UK the Lynx Helicopter was operated by the Army Air Corps and Navy but not the RAF. The RAF and the Navy operated the Sea King for Search and Rescue among other operations.

    Did the lynx ever see actual combat? It is a great idea imo to have a stealth like aerial tank hunter.

      Yes, they saw combat in the Falklands War and the Gulf War. In both conflicts they used Sea Skua missiles to attack marine targets.
