    If you not gonna be in a massive rush to get someplace the same day, then taking the train is the luxury, leisurely way to make your travels.
    Wether it's a 2 or 3 day journey enjoy it, you see more down there from the train cos you don't see nothing much from up there in a plane.
    Happy travels!

      That is the truth.
      I flew from Toledpo to Las Vegas. You really don't see much from 35,000 feet.

      My wife had a terrible experience flying American recently. I told her that if it's within our budget I'll gladly pay for a cabin on a train next time we need to travel.

    In 2017 my husband and I are taking Amtrak Eagle 3, Chicago to LA and back. We're booking thru the Amtrak Customer Service, at 62/63 we're retired so our schedules are flexible enough to take advantage of 'senior' and other deals offered for the trip. Two guys both 6'4", a roomette with meals included, 3 days there, one overnight in a hotel in LA [not interested in seeing the town] and three days back. GREAT video, thanks for breakfast and hope you enjoyed your visit to Chicago, my hometown!!

    Great video! I have traveled from the San Francisco Bay Area in California all the way to Chicago (and back again) on Amtrak (taking the cross-country California Zephyr route) twice during my lifetime to date. It took 48 hours, with two overnights in the sleeping car. But, I have never traveled to Chicago from Texas (or anywhere in the south) before, so I thank you for your beautiful video! I agree with your sentiments about the dining car and observation car by the way. :) For future reference: if you stay in the sleeping car, all of your meals in the dining car are included in your ticket purchase! You will still have to buy food and drinks from the snack bar with your own money though. I hope you enjoyed your trip! Cheers!

    I wonder if some of this video is out of sequence, or perhaps shows part of the return trip as if it were part of the first trip (Dallas to Chicago)? The video shows crossing the Mississippi with the bridge girders visible, although the direction of travel is not too apparent, then the video again says the the Mississippi is being crossed, but the Gateway Arch is on the right and the train is coming into the city of St Louis, which would only happen if travelling west, not east. So I think there were errors in the editing......

    • @4734679
      @4734679 7 лет назад +2

      Actually, instead of making a left at Poplar Bluff, Missouri and coming north on Union Pacific's Desoto Subdivision, they went straight and came north on Union Pacific's Chester subdivision through Dupo, Illinois and went west on the Macarthur Bridge in to St. Louis which left the train facing the wrong direction. As a side note, they actually crossed the Mississippi River twice to get to St. Louis. Once in Chester, Illinois and once again in East St. Louis, Illinois When they left St. Louis they had to make a maneuver called "Wye" the train by backing up the way they came in to Union Pacific's Lesperance street rail yard and going back east across the Macarthur bridge and north on the Springfield subdivision towards Chicago.

    I honestly think the fare paid for the sleeper train can buy a lie-flat business class seat in a 787-8 on American Airline... but the experience itself is worth a try at least.

  • @masroorchowdhury653

    No matter how good the trains look, they don't compare to European train in speed. Its a shame that America didn't give a damn to the development and improvement of railways over the years. They were always in favour of super highways ignoring the fact that travelling by train can be as much comfortable and enjoyable if the speed matches up to their European cousins.

    • @Wanderersea
      @Wanderersea 8 лет назад +5

      Sure speed is nice but traveling by trains out here in America is more about the experience and the scenery. People who needs to get somewhere in a hurry will just take a plane.

    • @helmitpeak
      @helmitpeak 8 лет назад +3

      Agree, the train trip is a part of the adventure on a vacation on a cross country trip, you want speed take a plane. High speed trains are fine for quick trips between cities that are close, like Washington D.C. and New York.

    • @jeremydes100
      @jeremydes100 6 лет назад +3

      Well most of Europe was destroyed in ww2 so their infrastructure is a lot newer. Let us never be like Europe...although many of our leaders worship them and want us to be just like them.

    • @rcsouth

      I will take the Constitution and Freedom over high speed trains. 50% income tax and qua-say Socialism pays for the fancy trains.

      The trains in Europe are more for work than leisure. But I would have to agree.
