I had the pleasure of touring with Ack back in 1978 in Peter Herbolzheimer's band in Germany. The trumpet section was myself, Ack, Kenny Wheeler and Alan Botschinsky. What a joy that tour was!!!!

He was 78 years old here, playing like he's smack in the middle of his prime! Amazing!
M R I met him last week, he is 90 now and still sounds the same, it’s unbelievable!
Really motivates me to keep practicing. No matter how little i practice if i do it for over 60 years i have to get good at it :D

Ack is absolutely one of the finest jazz musicians of our time! The flugelhorn is magical in his hands! Love that sound!

Ack Van Rooyen, one of the great lyrical jazz players.... beautiful singing sound, long flowing lines. A true musician. I remember as a child hearing him on a Bert Kaempfert recording....... amazing playing.......

This is Ack van Rooyen, a Dutch Flugelhorn and Trumpet Player. He Played with the great Bert Kaempferth Orchestra in the Sixties, With Peter Herbolzheimer's Rhythm Combination and Brass, with the United Jazz and Rock Ensemble and many more. He used to teach Jazz Trumpet Playing in Hilversum.

For some years now I'm carrying this with me wherever I go, first on my iPod, now on my iPad. What a musician(s). Ack van Rooyen, still going strong and even getting better. And Paul Kuhn. A breed of musicians that's seems to be slowly dissapearing.
