    Hurrah! what a beautiful clock and how pleasant is the sound of musical sequence at every quarter hour on tuned set of chiming bars and number of hours coiled wire gong!

    No, you can just 'silent' the melody, but not the hour chime.
    So if you want a 'quiet' clock, it'll just strike the hours every full hour ;)

    A cousin of mine has one with the same movement, and I had one to because I just simply thought the chime didn't seem right so I put it into an auction room.

    It has the same movement as a Philip Haas clock, although it is a Junghans.
