Thank you ! Yes, it's better to make a slurry first with glycerin or sorbitol but I didn't want to add an other parameter in that specific case. They actually influence the texture of the gels.
Great video! Just a suggestion but when adding gums to your water directly it can cause a lot of clumping. So to combat that you should hydrate the gums with Vegetable Glycerine first to form a syrupy mixture , then add it to the water to have even dispersion.
@@Yardenisrael I'm guessing that you're maybe vegan, if so you can use an immersion blender or any high shear blender to hydrate the gum without clumping. Hope this helps
It’s different for each formulation, but you can expect spoilage around the same time. Rancidity normally occurs within 3 months but can be much sooner, especially without a preservative. Signs of spoilage include change in odor, color, appearance, even pH, and/or obvious mold.
Thanks so much for making these videos....it would be nice to have a demonstration on your hair starting from xantham gel. would like to know if it results to a wet look.
Hello from Canada. Your video was very good. Good job and showing the end results as you worked your way through all the gels. I like agar agar for my S.E.Asian puddings. Like Xanthum gum for my salves and cream to make them less oily. I also add arrowroot powder, just a small bit to ensure smoothening of the end product. Aloe vera is great for shower section as also for facials. thanks again for your beautiful video.
Great video, thanks! I would appreciate a lot your opinion and help about this matter: I've made a Comfrey root alcohol liquid Extract (Symphytum officinale) for external use. However, it's use is not as comfortable as a Comfrey GEL (which is for sale in pharmacy). So I was thinking to use the comfrey alcohol extract as a liquid base, and add some thickening agent. What would you suggest to use for this purpose? Thanks a lot in advance for any help.
I make my own hair gel with xanthan gum and glycerine.. Sometimes I add aloe vera. But I think a better idea is to add aloe and/ or hibiscus powder to boiled water and let it steep. Then use that to make the xanthan hair gel. That should give it longer shelf life.I made a big batchaand so far its still fine after more than a month at room temperature. I will never again buy hair gel. It works for several dayß after application. I just dampen my hair with a spritz of water. It reactivates the gel and I just fix up the flat sections of my hair. I also want to try using some herbal teas as a base for the xanthan gel.
Follow the directions of whatever preservative you buy. For example, I use phenonip preservative. The usage directions for phenonip state that it can be used at 0.25 - 1% of final volume. When the mixture is within the designated temperature range for phenonip, add the preservative and mix thoroughly. I usually use 1% when I use phenonip. So for 100 g final weight, I use 99 g of other ingredients and 1 g of phenonip. There are online calculators that can do this for you if math isn’t your thing.
I mixed xanthan and aloe vera but it decreases the shelf life I think. I want to try making a tea from dried aloe vera or aloe powder and then straining and adding the xanthan.
A powder normally doesn't have a percentage. But depending on how much solution you want, u need a specific amount of the powder. So for 100 ml, u would need 1 mg to have a 1% mixture. Hope that helps
I made a batch of xanthan gum hair gel and its lasted more than a month so far. Xanthan gum gel lasts very long at room temperature. Its when you add fresh stuff to it that you should be careful imo. I made a bit with aloe vera mixed in and I dunno if I imagined it but I detected a slightly funny smell. Not sure if it smelt like that from the start cos my sense of smell isn't good at all. I should have asked someone for a 2nd opinion.
@@PROSPERTEDDY I put a preservative called phenonip in it if I want to keep it outside the fridge or past 1 week. I make it in very small quantities though
Adding glycerin to the gums and THEN adding to water removes the possibility of clumping btw
Thank you ! Yes, it's better to make a slurry first with glycerin or sorbitol but I didn't want to add an other parameter in that specific case. They actually influence the texture of the gels.

I thought about it but glycerin can influence the texture of the gels so I decided to not add any.
Vegetable glycerin sounds good, as most store products have pork glycerin which I can’t use.

Are any of these gels shelf stable or do you have to refrigerate them all? How long do these gels last for?

I have recently started back using gel only because it lays better now than mousse for my wavy/curly hair. I like the thicker gels 😊

Why did you add Sea salt to the Carraghenmoos Gel? And are they any substitutes to Sea salt?
Great! What about a demo of how you use the gels and their effects on your hair?
I will do that !

hiii... i have a question. what about preservatives?
Can you say which gel has high holding power? For hairstyle like finger waves or locs.
Looks like it could be the agar agar, judging by it's stiffness, however, it may need to be mixed with an oil to soften a little.

When I blend the aloe vera am getting juice instead of gel 😔
You can use xanthan or guar gum to thicken them. I do this for putting aloe Vera on my face/hair bc I HATE the dripping.
Dont stir as much

Where can we get the Xanthan gam gel.
You can buy xanthan gum at health food stores, asian grocery stores or online. I put amazon links in the description box.
Xanthan gel is the best but god there is no way i can get that
Be careful with Aloe Vera Gel, it has a very low PH and can cause skin irritation, needs to be pH balanced with other chemicals.
Really? I didn't know that. It always used to make me itchy
In aloever gel you don't add anything
Wow love it but is hard
Not bad
