    I am from Denmark and I just bought a big beautiful yam from Ghana today.
    I have absolutely no no idea how to cook or how to eat it but I can’t wait to try it❤
    Can I eat it with a beef stew? If yes how would you cook it?
    Why do you add salt water to the oil?
    Thank you so much and love from Denmark🤗

    • @veraaduberko1825
      @veraaduberko1825 3 месяца назад

      You can enjoy yam with beef stew. It's one of my favorite dishes. Also,You can either boil or fry yam. The salt water was added to the oil to make the outer layer of the yam crispy. However, it's not a must to add salt water to the oil. Check out other RUclips videos of how to boil, fry and store yam the Ghanaian way. All the best

    Hi Fafa, any idea on why the yams sometimes turn out bitter? Could it be the type of the yam or theres a way to handle that. Thanks

    • @NdudubyFafa
      @NdudubyFafa  3 года назад +16

      Usually when the Yam is old it tends to have that bitterness and also some variety of Yam are slightly bitter naturally. It’s best to opt for Pona (Yellow Yam) which is naturally sweet and best for frying.
      What can be done to reduce the bitterness of Yam (but not eradicate it entirely) is to soak the Yam pieces in a tepid sugary water for at least an hour before frying.

      I can imagine you adding too much water, not waiting for the water to settle and turning the Yam whilst in its soft state which will result in a mushy texture. If you didn’t use a non stick pan I can also imagine it sticking to the bottom of the pan…chai I can feel your pain. Doesn’t mean you can’t try again and this time adding the water a bit at a time.
