I LOVE the skill based approach to Flexibility. It’s all about what you can do with your body rather than ‘oh wow this hamstring can stretch a great deal’
If each skill is a point, how many points did you get?
    1.) Deep Squat 00:51
    2.) Toe Touch 02:23
    3.) Shoulder Dislocations 03:34
    4.) Back Bend 04:47
    5.) Front Splits 05:24
    6.) Middle Splits 06:41

I didn't realize how flexible I actually was until I went to PT for my hip and my therapist was impressed with some stuff. I attribute it to the fact I took ballet for many years as a child. Even though I've been sedentary most of my adult life, that early training never seemed to fully go away, I was shocked I could still kind of do a backbend at 28 after years of sitting on my butt.

One of my first cues was getting the best score on the sit and reach test in high school despite being notoriously not athletic or interested in anything like that.
Then it came to getting into dance and yoga casually, and having like the one class I joined have the instructor remark on my hip flexibility just during a warmup stretch. Upon trying out a bunch of flexibility stuff on my untrained body, I'm starting to wonder if Im either gifted or have EDS

If you get flexible as a child you retain it very well for most of your life, or can at least reclaim the range quickly. Gaining flexibility you never had as an adult is a very uphill battle on the other hand

2 out of 6. I can squat and backbend like a mother fluffer but I can’t touch my toes without that stretch PAIN. And definitely no splits. Guess I got to watch more of your vids and start practicing 🫠🤷🏻‍♀️
Edit: I’d like to add (having now read other comments) that I used to be sooo flexible… dance was super helpful in that. Guess it’s motivating to have the phrase “use it or lose it” apply to yourself.

I'm 37 and I know your pain. I've mostly fixed my weight within the past four months (started at ~37% BMI, now probably closer to 30), but there's another half-year or so of recomp left to go (I work out at a gym, 3/week; 5/week soon). My depression from a 7-year relationship finally failing didn't last long (about 3 weeks), but the suicidal ideations are never pretty.
Personally, I highly recommend a gym membership (the social element is a nice bonus, but I mostly just enjoy lifting heavy and it's done wonders for my mood), but getting flexy is also sure to help as well.
Best of luck to you, friend.

Flexibility doesn't seem like a useful skill until you actually need it. Im currently working on the renovation of a bridge and sometimes we need to go inside where the only access are 32"/800mm holes at hip height. I personally have no problem stepping through them with my tool belt but my partner has to take out his toolbelt and it takes a good 15 sec despite the fact that we're both 28 and similar body composition

I could do all of these minus the back bend (due to lack of muscles to hold myself up) But mine is a bit of a cheat. I have EDS (only found out a couple years ago) which means my ligaments are too stretchy, to the point of not holding my body together properly. But with more muscle training on these hopefully I can postpone my body falling apart as I get older. As a kid I just thought I was flexible.

I know that I can touch my toes with my elbow when I'm warm, know sitting in front of the PC there is a gap of 10cm. Front splits too, warm I can do them until I have a gap of 3-5cm, cold I wouldn't try it in fear of injury.

I have been to PT twice for my tight hip flexors and rounded shoulders and was given routines that i do semi regularly. I was wondering what routines you would reccomend for those 2 issues? Thank you love all your content.

I can touch my toes. My back and hips are GARBAGE. I think it’s because of scoliosis. 😅
I love your content!!! I hope one of these times you could do some guided stretches to work different areas. 😊
And MAYBE one day I could do a proper backbend 😂

I misunderstood what you said about the toe touch against a wall. So I basically tried to do the toe touch with my heels also against the wall and almost tipped over, and was like ok that's impossible. Then I rewatched the video and saw you had your heels away from the wall (or, well, fridge). Makes more sense 😂

How efficient is stretching multiple muscles at the same time? For example stretching your wrists while you do stretching for a leg etc.

    2 out of 6
Deep squat: easy (although my knees hurt but for different reasons)
Shoulder dislocation: fine (i also can grab my hands together in the back like you showed quite easily)
Everything else: currently belongs to the realm of dreams

Zero point sadly, im sorry to bother you but can you make a full stretch rotein for touching my toes 😢, I'm what you can call a rock if i talk about my flexibility, I really appreciate your help and all the hard work you put on your video .
Sorry if my English is bad but I'm from Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦 and it's my second language 😅

Talking about usefulness of these stretches/mobility, all of them are super useful in climbing! Even the split! Have you ever tried? You'd be great

I have never really trained flexibility all my life and i was able to do all without the splits. And i think the splits i did terrible on. But the rest was okay. Maybe i am naturally a bit more föexy and could really bring it to shine with a bit of training :))

Does dynamic stretching have a place in the routine for those of us with hypermobility based joint instability? Or is it just too great a risk of dislocation/subluxation?
