Agassi called this victory his greatest of his entire career! That’s what an Olympic Gold medal is suppose to mean to you. It’s for your country and Agassi knew this. I truly do believe that on his best day he could beat anyone past or preset on their best day!
As an Atlanta resident, and avid tennis fan, we kept it alive for a few years post-hoc, with ATP and WTA. But ultimately, we couldn't keep it thriving. But the good news is that Atlanta, in contrast to other Olympic cities, has thrived since our Olympic venture. We repurposed the central stadium for the Braves in 97, and now the local university uses it for both sports and entertainment events. The Olympic Village was repurposed for Georgia State, and Georgia Tech; and we continue to maintain Centennial Olympic Park which serves as a de facto city hub -- surrounded by several tourist attractions. So, overall imperfect, but a decent story.
