Tip from the restaurant industry: if a customer says something inappropriate in passing, kindly ask them to repeat it. Most of the time they'll back down

Flight attendants are AWSOME we were in heavy turbulence over Orlando and my daughter had a full blown panic attack and the flight attendant came over sat next to her and held her hand and talked to her the whole time reassuring her she’s been through this tons of times and my daughter settled down and I bought a gift card at the airport and bought the attendant dinner for her and the whole flight crew ! Cause what she did for my daughter was priceless YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME!🤘🏻🤘🏻and KICK ASS !!

I appreciate flight attendants and their hard work. Always greet them with a smile. I once saw them do CPR and defibrillate a passenger. And he survived his heart attack thanks to their training.

I’ve been flying for forty years and always felt a lot of respect for flight attendants. Nothing about that job looks easy. There are tons of us ‘beta passengers’😆 who try to respect your role in traveling, and let you do your job.
A quick aside. My family was traveling back from a stopover in Arizona once and my daughter was sitting next to a flight attendant who was traveling back home. That woman sat and talked to my then ten year old daughter for an hour about her job, and I bet my daughter could repeat that conversation verbatim, twenty years later! 😊

I wanted to be a flight attendant so badly when I graduated highschool in 1974. My cousin was and I thought how glamorous it was, travel, meet exciting people!!! There were so MANY restrictions at that time, I never had a chance... It broke my heart. I've learned from that time, life was completely different then. Sexual harassment was more prevalent (overt, acceptable). Some things changed for the better, some things stayed the same, some things got worse!!! Thanks for your posts!! Safe Travels!!

My parents separated when I was 9, mah lived in NH and dad lived in Florida, so I had to take a lot of plane rides by myself when I was 12-15, the flight attendants ALWAYS had my back; the first time I had a connecting flight, the staff on the plane upgraded me to first class (for context I’d always get booked in the last 2 rows) and I had a full escort of several flight attendants to take me to the next gate. I don’t know if my parents asked them to do that or if it was just protocol for that specific airline when I was that specific age (since that was the only time it happened) but everyone was so sweet and made sure I was taken care of, one of them even bought me a water c:

    That’s so exploitative.

  • @vanringo
    @vanringo 9 месяцев назад +36

9 hours of rest does not mean 9 hours of sleep. It is the same for pilots and truck drivers that have minimum down times between flights or driving shifts. I know for truck drivers they have a mandatory down time of 10 hours per day, that doesn't mean sleep for 10 hours, just 10 hours between shifts.

My respect to your work. Every time I fly I wonder how you do this with all the difficulties, from dealing with different kind of people, to air pressure, to jetlag, to not enough time to rest, and these on every trip. Without counting the moments of turbulences or extreme situations where every passenger has the eyes on you for salvation and many of you have been heroes.
I dreamed about this job many years ago due to traveling opportunities. Now I think I wouldn't have been able to even pass the training. 😅

It would have never occurred to me that flight attendants are just there to serve Cokes. I'd have assumed that they are also there to serve Fanta and Sprite.
On a more serious, a flight attendants primary role is to keep the cabin safe, in Ryanair at least (not sure about other airlines), and anything beyond that is secondary.

I flew for the first time on Eastern airlines in 1956.. all the stewardesses were beautiful and single. The plane was a Lockheed super constellation. I was allowed to go into the cockpit and watch the pilots. We flew from Indianapolis to Louisville to Nashville to Atlanta to Tampa to Miami. I was 10 years old at the time and made the trip by myself.

Being a high class waitress is not their primary responsibility. I recently saw on RUclips, some nitwit reviewing a British Air flight who actually complained that it took 12 minutes to get his Coke!
Get real! Their first responsibility is cabin safety. That's it.
Everything else is a bonus. Be polite to your cabin crew!

I was in the Denver airport and saw (I assume) UAE flight attendants heading to the train, and I was actually stunned. 5 tall beautiful women, in tan uniforms and heels, walking perfectly in sync. It was like something out of a fashion video or promo. They looked very tired, wish airlines treated their employees better.

My mother was a flight attendant before having kids and she loved it at the time but it is not for everyone. She is now currently a realtor and she loves it. She has had three major jobs which all require her to be on her feet. If it works it works, but if it doesn’t it doesn’t and you need to try something new.

Makeup and heels are overrated, don’t think people care about the the uniforms as much as corporate bureaucrats do. I would they don’t require pointy toe and spike heels, seen videos of flight attendant that wear wider heels with rounded or square toe. It sounds like the people that make the rules have no clue about real life.

This isn't every airline, I get 45 minutes after we land before our rest time starts and its 12 hours. One thing I agree with is not enough sleep as getting to airport, going through security, customs, immigration and even walking to/from the carpark takes so long giving you barely any actual time to rest
