Amazing tutorial. Can I present the same LUN that I created in TrueNAS to the three ESXi hosts, for example?

Why zVol was used instead of a dataset?

I have tried doing this recently. A dataset won't show in the device list of Intents in the iSCSI sharing section, however a Zvol will.

dataset is a file-based storage which works with protocols like SMB (Windows Sharing), on the other hand, zVol is a Block-based storage which works with protocols like iSCSI. Block-level storage is more common and more efficient for storage high-demanding systems like VMware vSphere.
