12:36 - What exactly was the calc teacher asking them to solve. That's just the definition of derivative as the difference quotient finds the secant line between two points and taking the limit as h approaches 0 finds the tangent line of a specific point.
For example if you wanted to find the d/dx(x^2) you would plug in into the formula to get:
((x+h)^2 - x^2) / h
(x^2 + 2xh + h^2 - x^2) / h
(2xh + h^2) / h
2x + h
And since the limit as h approaches 0 is determinate, you can just set h to 0 to get 2x so the derivative of x^2 is 2x
Some ap calc teacher he is. Also what was that student saying about finding the integral? The indefinite integral of a derivative is just 1 since they are inverse functions so that student used all that chalk just to write the number one.
