Thanks for the video. I picked up the same filter and a pump for nothing at work I put brushes in the vortex, to catch the crud, adapted bay one to take K1 and put alphagrog and brushes in the other bays, in mesh bags, so I could easily remove them. For the price of alphagrog and K1, I think I got a very good bargain.
Thank you! I have watched a few filter videos and none of them are good for beginners. They explained how to make the filters but not how they worked anc they weren't as interesting or as helpful as this one :)
I’ve replaced all my brushes with “Springflow” ribbon media (looks very like plastic ribbon used to secure heavy packages) I find it never really clogs and I find it significantly easier to clean! Just shake while draining chamber. If necessary just re-fill and repeat the process! Before I had 144 brushes tightly packed into the chamber which were a nightmare to clean!
Great video. I have the same filter and has been working so well but getting a lot of weed build up in it now. Nearly drained my pond as blocked the outlet. Any ideas how to stop this? Cheers.
Them Kockney Koi filters are a good filter old school and they work as you have dun swap out the bio for Alfagrog or K1 moving and away you go people don't like getting wet hands that's why they have fallen behind the nexus filters and drum filters. Put a long spawning brush in the vortex is the only thing I can see will help over what you have improved in it keep the update videos coming
I haven't had a Koi pond for about ten years. Back then most good koi keepers used different types of gravel filters, i.e Canterbury spar with some reed beds if you had room. Things seem to have changed. All the filters I see today use mechanical in a big way. All these drum filters are mechanical and all have these shower filter returns. I'm looking to build a new pond soon and wonder what your thoughts are on Biological filtration.
hi thanks for the video, I have the 2500 one, mine is square with four small compartments, would you put alfa in the last two chambers or just in the third as in the last one theres a black foam block. thanks for any help
I have a canister filter with a uv aimed at 12000l but I've added a 6000l box filter after that full with alfagrog just today. Only 15kg of it. But hopefully it'll manage my small 4500l pond with 8 koi.
If you don't mind I was wondering if you could please share the website or name of place where you got kockney koi filter I live in Oahu, Hawaii and I really want to get in to raising koi in may grandfathers yard he passed away in 2018 and i wanna bring back his legacy of maybe eventually breeding and raising koi but that some time down the future all i need is the best filter which I really do think the kockney koi filter is the best because its a simple layout with no technicalities... If you could please advise me to how I can get ahold of kockney koi filter...
Carp Fishing Adventures lol I love the carp fishing mate go as much as I can tbh your pond looks fine mate just do little bits at a time it soon gets there but can be a pricey hobby 😂😂
Biological media bacteria grows as the loads put on it, so as much mechanical filtration as possible to keep the bio as clean as possible. My 5 bay has 3 as mechanical (2 are packed brushes)and the last 2 are jap mat. Works a treat
mines a 15/20000 litre pump adjustable rule of thumb is say you have 10000litre pond you want to turn the wanter over at least once per hour so for 1000 litres id have 8000/10000 litre pump and a filter thats good enough for 3/4/5 times that amount really :]
New brushes are need more too probably 8 depending on size... As for the plastic bio media it's not crap in most cases its developed for water management of human was at sewage plants k1 etc plus flocor was developed by ici... Alfa OK but breaks down over time still does a good job but not as easy to maintain plus life span... Either way it's an upgrade to what you're old system was
Drum filters are quite shit for koi they do the job yeah but long as fuck to clean even with a bubble system and there just DIY shitty filters it's like getting a paint tub putting a hole at the bottle with media and making an outlet at the top like I say they do the job but not the greatest if you water test the water from a drum filter to a kockney koi filter you'll understand 👍
@@aaron1278 your comment was drum filter is the way forward for you? Vs a kockney koi filter No it isn't mate.... Lol if he didn't have his background filters then yes possibly but probably not going to get much better filtering than what his got unless you spend a fair good chunk of money & for what extra he would get wouldn't be worth it

Nice little update mucka. Ive found if my brushes are tightly packed they are more efficient 👍

What size pump ? I’ve currently got 8000 litre pump but not sore is it’s too big for the same filter you have in the vid.
