- Hi I’m Adrienne McLean from The Speakers Practice - we help service professionals to get more clients and promote their business, in many ways including using speaking as a marketing strategy !
This is a video from my series “From my desK’ covers on topics about marketing, sales , business system skills and public speaking and how working on these areas can really help you get more clients!
Using speaking as a marketing strategy can be
an effective way to establish yourself as an
authority in your field, ,ep in mind when using
this strategy. Here are some key points to
consider:
DOs:
Define your target audience: Understand
who your audience is and tailor your
message accordingly. This will help you to
connect with them more effectively and
increase the chances of generating leads.
Contact Event Planners for your target
market - see if their audience would be
interested in your topic. Send them a
speaking proposal covering your
presentation topic. When in contact with the
event planners say that if they need help
when a speaker cant attend, you can help
at short notice. This is a big help to the
event planner and they will appreciate your
assistance and help you in return when
they can.
Prepare thoroughly: Spend time preparing
your presentation and practice it several
times. This will help you to deliver your
message more confidently and effectively.
Promote your speaking engagements: Use
social media, email marketing, and other
channels to promote your speaking
engagements. This will help you to reach a
wider audience and generate interest in
your brand.
Provide value: Make sure that your
presentation provides value to your
audience. This could be in the form of
actionable tips, insights, or inspiration.
Follow up: After your presentation, follow
up with attendees to thank them for their
time and provide additional resources or
support. This will help you to build
relationships with potential customers.
DON'Ts:
If an Event planner contacts you for a speaking engagement, jump at the opportunity It is much better to help out rather than challenge. It is much better to assist than anything else. When you speak at an event there is a month or more of promotions to their list and on social media., Not accepting the an event planner invitation will mean it looses you , as a speaker, a month or more of promotions plus speaking in front of an audience means you don’t get your message to all the people attending.
Over-promote your products or services:
Avoid using your speaking engagements as
a platform to promote your products or
services too aggressively. This can come
across as pushy and may turn people off.
Ramble or go off-topic: Stay focused on
your topic and avoid rambling or going off-
topic. This can make it difficult for your
audience to follow your message and may
result in them losing interest.
Use jargon or technical language: Unless
you are speaking to a highly technical
audience, avoid using jargon or technical
language that your audience may not
understand. This can create confusion and
may alienate your audience.
Ignore feedback: Be open to feedback from
your audience and take it into account
when preparing for future presentations.
Ignoring feedback can make it difficult to
improve your speaking skills and connect
with your audience.
Fail to follow up: Following up with
attendees is crucial to building relationships
and generating leads. Failing to follow up
can result in missed opportunities and a
lack of progress in your marketing efforts.
By following these dos and don'ts, you can
effectively use speaking as a marketing
strategy to grow your brand, establish yourself
as an authority in your field, and generate
leads
