Reform certainly appeals to the Conservative membership, but they don't appeal to moderate voters.
The perception that the Tory Party didn't move far enough to the right is really bizarre given the fixation on phoney culture wars and small boats.
Yes, that level of populism resonates with those disposed to seeking a common enemy, but it doesn't reflect the concerns of most ordinary people.
Our sea and rivers are polluted, rents and mortgages are out of control, our railways are the most expensive in Europe, our household bills have doubled, our farmers and exporters have been crippled by Brexit, and the NHS is on its knees.
The root cause of this is the ideology of privatisation at any cost, compounded by the economics of the IEA that influenced Liz Truss. Reform have the same economic principles at heart, and people see through scapegoating immigrants for these dead-end policies.

I utterly disagree with this former Conservative minister who are out-of-touch with the British people; I used to vote for the Cons but they betray the British, so I voted for Reform UK this time, an apology is exactly what I have been looking for from a Conservative representative. Suella Braverman should lead the Conservative party's reform

    • @andyhart358
      @andyhart358 3 месяца назад

I voted Conservative for decades, but saw the light many years ago.
I really don't believe that the Conservatives are going to change significantly, so unless Nigel does something to truly upset me, I will be
      staying with Reform.
Reform could do with a heavyweight like Suella Braverman in it's ranks. Her policies are not so far removed that she would be incompatible,
and it might quell the ridiculous "Reform is a racist party" comments if an MP of her calibre and ethnicity were to join (her parents both being
of Indian origin, emigrating from Mauritius and Kenya).
She has done valuable work in bringing to light the wrongness of uncontrolled and unsupported migration. That is not racist, it is simply protecting the
resources our own country for the good of it's own people. We work hard, and pay our taxes so that these resources are available for us when we
need them. They are not something we can afford to give away freely to all.
I'm pleased that you chose to vote Reform this time, and I hope (despite your leanings towards the Conservatives) that you will choose to stay.
Real reform is at our core, not a lesson hard learned at the ballot box.
Ms Braverman's declared intentions show that she would be a valuable asset, should she choose to join Reform, as is every voter like yourself, who
knew what they wanted, what they needed, but wasn't getting it from the Conservatives.
      Thank you for your support.

Even if Suella was installed as leader there are far to many James Walker types in the Party. That goes not just for MP's but CCHQ aswell. The Tories are doomed and need a complete clear out to get back to their core values. Suella would be taken on a poisoned chalice that she would be undermined by her fellow associates. Just as Boris and Liz truss where brought down. Suella come to Reform UK the party that represents real common sense and conservative principles.

She should cross the floor and join Reform and she will become more popular. It is because of people like Charles Walker that the Tories are in the mess they are in and they are too deluded to see that is the case. It is because the Conservative Party is not Conservative enough and Centre-Right enough, that people have have switched to Reform. If they elect a One World Tory/Wet Tory as their next leader, it will show that they have not learnt their lesson, they have not listened to their former voters and will face an existential crisis very quickly.

    • @HenryHobson-uc2bk

its because the torys are fatally and obsessively shackled to the whims and demands of the trans national open borders "free market" capitalist ideology. As long as they continue to operate dogmatically and stubbornly under friedmanneit principles, they are going NOWHERE just further in to irrelevant obsolesence. The logical end game of economic neo-liberalism is one party states operating in collusion with big international corporate businesses, guaranteed $$$$$$$$$$ profit.....subsidised by the tax payer, shut everything else down.

She is an absolute gift to the Labour Party what a treasure and the gift that will keep on giving no doubt she will keep pulling to the right where their missing voters gifted Reform apparent popularity.
If she left for reform it would just cement their status as a party whose vote will be split for 10 years plus. Thus enabling a stable Labour government for extended periods.
If the Tories want to win a significant share of the vote they need to appeal to the centre where most of the UK population find themselves aligned and this is where Starmer has positioned Labour drifting further right to recover the more extreme right voters gifted to Reform is just a gift.
