Glad to see that chris Broderick is still aroud, an amazing guitard player.
He’s also a genuinely great guy. My son (10 years old at the time) brought his guitar to one of their shows and Chris jammed with him!

@@julianRiseAgainst I know I find it strange as a vocallist myself, his screams have gotten much better and sound a lot a healthier, but yet he cannot sing clean. When he does it sounds like it takes more effort than actually screaming, which is odd since anecdotally, I find it harder to scream than sing cleanly.
Props for playing Graveland from the magical The Jester Race album.
Again it shows what a bad singer Anders is. His live performance is so far away from the records. You can feel how much post processing must be on the vocals to achieve a good result. That's never a good sign for a singer. It's not about singing some part differently, he simply is not able to sing the songs like they are on their records.
His shouting or growls on the other hand are on top, Don't know why he keeps trying to sing ...
Seen them live 4 times 3 times front row and the energy they give off is insane , absolutely brilliant band

This is what happens when you take the professional bass player and the drummer in your band. Freaking tight and punchy instrumental, absolutely love it
they have chris broderick for a rythm guitarist too, who is arguably technically top 10 guitarists (in any genre)
I never thought Broderick was a good fit for Megadeth, but he sounds great in In Flames.
Now he has to dress like a Scandinavian hipster.
I really thought it was just a swedish dude with Boderick's badass signature Jackson
I was astonished seeing Broderick on the stage with In Flames in Kyiv back in 2019. I was like "what this guy is doing here???" But I really liked the show and it's great Broderick stayed in In Flames line up!

I wish this crowd had more energy. This band was in overdrive from the moment they came on stage. This was a special moment for Anders and you can hear it. Perfect performance from these absolute titans!
I was there and the crowd was pretty awesome. The thing is that there were no microphones pointed at the audiance in this recording. I can tell you the crowd was singing along and had lots of energy.
Thats what u get when ur pulling of a concert in the middle of the day without alcohol :)

It seems in more recent years Anders modified a lot his singing style. Now he screams/growls a lot more. I would not be surprised to hear a 100% growling song soon (in a recorded album even, not just live ?)
Saw them live last week, I can testify he growls like 99% of the time live
It seems Anders has problems with his clean vocals. On the albums you can hear much autotune in the clean parts, and many of this parts he growl in the live performances ... for example the chorus at "State of slow decay" ... anyway a really great show. AND btw ... i would love to see a 100% growling album in the future 😁

It's crazy how they improved their live performance over the years. Watched them many times live in mid/late 2000s. They were bad, especially Anders. They sound way better now. Especially Anders. 😀
They went from awesome to bad to passable. Look up their performance at sticky fingers from 2004. This was the peak with their original line up.
Still one of the worst singers in metal. At least live.
I don't know if he has ever confirmed it but I am pretty sure he blew his voice out at one point. Mid 2000's he was extremely rough. I have seen them probably 8 times since 2007 and literally every time has been better than the last, both from a band perspective and Anders as well) . He is truly on top of his game at the moment.

As a through and through hip hop head, In flames is one of very few rock bands that I like for some reason. Anders just has the ultimate rock voice for me

I hate the New Metal era that in flames entered, but man I love this band even though I miss the melodic death metal style. It's a pleasure to see them perform.

you dont even see the insane size of the whole stage. weve waited 6 hours in the blistering sun for in flames just to be in the front row but it was worth it. damn i had my hand on a drumstick and almost got to keep it. fuck it was amazing

In flames ever changing style of song writing is a matter of taste and what you prefer but IMO at least, they have become so much better live. I saw them back in the Come clarity-era and was sober, working at the venue and tbh, it didnt sound too great =) But then I saw then at Borgholm Brinner and it was so good, much like in this clip.
Ps, btw its funny that Anders kinda look like a Swedish hipster nowadays =)

Impossible. Why do you think most metalcore bands have one clean vocalist and one screamer? No matter how good your technique is it's basically impossible to keep your clean voice in top shape if you're doing an hour of screaming every show.

My favorite band of all time. Been listening to them since late 90’s. I love their old stuff but their new stuff is the best in my opinion.

In Flames are so good live I hardly ever listen to studio versions.
His clean vocals need a lot of work. His screams and growls are on point tho.

@@justsam7919 His clean vocals are just fine on record, but live they are not anywhere near as good. Just the kind of singer he is does not bother me cuz I love any and all In Flames. Even their first album where Mikael Stanne (Dark Tranquility) is the lead vocals.

Why do they never play I, the Mask or Stay with me? These are literally the best songs of the latest album? I mean the whole album is a masterpiece but these are the best songs on the album. I wanna see the live performed so badly.
That's subjective. Great songs, but it depends on the audience and how the band feels. I personally think in this life is great, but it might seem kinda weird. "In flames drinks beer and plays heavy metal"

Props to the drummer losing his stick at 6:42 and not missing a beat. Love In Flames! wish the crowd was more into it.
the crowd was massive for that concert, yet it was the last day of the festival and very hot, so I guess people were just tired/exhausted
the first two days of the festival were a lot of rain and mud which led to chaos, frustration and exhaustion. postponed core zone opening times, bad handling by the festival management led to kind of a bad mood at first, the other two days were super windy and hot after that, which again led to exhaustion. it was a tough festival, but that is the spirit of nova rock. it has to be that way, if the weather doesnt suck its not nova rock :D
Anders been better recently. He struggled here. Clean backing tracks, the crowd sang half the concert. Thankfully he’s been sounding fantastic recently

This crowd is weak. Pfft..
I swear for years, In Flames, while consistently (in my opinion) releasing high quality albums year after year struggled for consistency in a live setting. Don't get me wrong, they were always high energy and seeing them live was always an absolute blast, but listening back to live recordings Anders in particular struggled to put in a consistent vocals, with his screams sounding thin, and his clean vocals radically shifted from passable to completely off key and he was regularly drowned out by the rest of the band.
The rest of the band also struggled to replicate their Melodeath classic's live. I mean they were performed immaculately but the sound always sounded so weak. Granted this was more than likely due to the fact their albums from Jesters Race to Colony all had three guitars (Two Leads & a Rhythm) & even in their 90's Melodeath heyday they only ever had two guitarists in the band at any one time. Hence the reason they dropped to two guitarists when recording albums from Clayman onwards.
Anyways where was I? Oh right! My point! My point is, for years In Flames struggled to consistently perform at the High Quality their albums (particularly from Lunar Strain all the way to A Sense of Purpose) but then all of a sudden, like 3-4 years ago, something seemed to click & since then, they've been consistently brilliant live, bringing in a massive sound with immaculate musicianship, not to mention that Anders was now actually really really fucking good live? He went back to a more guttural death growl, which was always his strength, and his singing, while its never going to be jaw droppingly amazing, now consistently hits the same level as it does in a Studio setting.
I did wish he'd bring back some of that More Guttural Death Growl to his studio recordings though, especially since he was clearly still more than capable of doing so.
Aaaaaaand then they dropped State of Slow Decay, their best song since at least A Sense of Purpose, (Arguably even further back). God That song is a perfect mix of Clayman era Melodeath & the Manic Chaos of the Come Clarity era.
If the rest of the album sounds anywhere near as good as State of Slow Decay then, along with their now consistently brilliant live shows, they really seem to have hit the peak of their career, well second peak after their 90's output (Whoracle is personally my favourite In Flames album)
Yeah man. Very well said. I was die hard fan of In Flames back in the day. I didn't get along with post ASOP era and my love started to fading out. Considering also they really poor live performance, it didn't help. But watching this I have to say I wish to go the gig in the near future. :) Anders definitely done something to help himself with his growls which is awsome. Would definitely listen to some classics live.
Very well said, I totally agree with you. Saw them live twice and once I was actually really surprised how bad Anders performed on that evening (but I guess he had some beers before the show..) and then I listen to this record and it's amazing!
