I literally saw this train pulling into Keighley Worth Valley Railway station yesterday. I live near the railway and am lucky enough to see regular runnings of steam trains and Diesel trains.
The " flaps " in the detail pack are the cab doors, they are included, but not fitted as could impair running on small rad curves, the two square mouldings under the boiler are the mechanical lubricators,. looking at the Horny and Bachmann versions, the reversing rod and feed water pump are both correct, some locos were right and left hand drive.....
On the back of the Bachmann box it stated that some of the Fowler 4F engines were right hand drive, and some were left hand drive so it could be the Bachmann modeled theirs after a right hand drive engine and Hornby modeled theirs after a left hand drive engine. So I find that neat in how Hornby did it one way and Bachmann another. I like them both and think they're both beautiful models. :)
#43924 was built at Derby Works on October 31st, 1920 for the Midland Railway as their 3924. She later went into LMS stock in 1923 and still kept her Midland Railway number. She became British Railways #43924 in 1948 and was withdrawn from service on June 30th, 1965 and sold to Woodham Brothers Scrapyard in Barry Island. In 1968, she was the first engine to leave Barry Scrapyard and is now operating on the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway. She's the only Midland built 4F to survive the scrapper's torch.
Very Nice. I got a 4F a few years ago, and bought a great S&DJR 7F, 53808 in S&D livery at Stafford Model show, also bought one of those new GWR Shunting wagon! All amazing models for great prices.
Love the vid unfortunately my 4f’s motors burnt out I’m really upset Also my birthday is coming up so I’m getting an 03 , milk tankers , vans and a 20t brake van
Thanks mate! Awhh that's a real shame - could you contact Bachmann, and see if they could help?? OOh nice - hope you have an awesome birthday! :D Cheers, Sam :)
You know, watching your videos really helps me to decide on which locomotives I want to get for my layout. Case in point, after seeing this video, I'll definetly go for the Bachmann 4F tender engine first as it has nice detail. Great video by the way, look forward to the next review.
Hi Sam - thanks for an interesting review and running session! I bought the Hornby 4F TTS a couple of years ago, can't remember exactly what I paid for it but over £100 from Hattons. I find it to be one of my best runners and really like the sound effects - this was my first loco with sound - and it remains one of my favourites on my layout. That said, I do like the look of the cab detailing on the Bachmann version. Coming from Derby, where many of these locos were made, I have a fondness for these 4F models and I'll keep an eye open for a Bachmann bargain! All the best.
Hi Darrel, no problem mate - really glad you enjoyed it! Yeah I absolutely agree - the performance on the Hornby one is second to none, but I think the price was ludicrous given the amount of detail though! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
They were built around 1920 especially this one, some for sdjr. There are 4 remaining this one is the only one that worked on the midland railway and it was the first loco out of barry and the first loco to fire out of Barry. And it still has problems with melting it’s bearings the damn thing 😂😂. It’s a great little loco to work around
some 4F were right-hand driven while some others were left-hand driven (I think most were right-hand), that could explain the reversing rod thing nice unboxing/review, as always
Cool model! It’s amazing how many were built, it only three preserved! Of the three, the one the National Railway Museum owns is he first built of them all! There’s also one preserved Midland 4F
Thanks Ryno - I think so too, they certainly churned them out.... but I guess the more numerous ones didn't get preserved, because everyone was too used to them maybe?? lol. Ooh that's very cool - I love that they kept the first one :3 Cheers, Sam :)
#44198 was built at St. Rollox Works in Glasgow, Scotland on October 31st, 1925 as LMS #4198. She became British Railways #44198 in 1948 and was withdrawn from service on May 31st, 1963. She was cut up at T.W. Ward's Scrapyard on February 29th, 1964 at the age of 38.
There were left and right hand drive versions Sam , so it could be that the reversing rod could be on the other side. The Hornby one is actually my Airfix one but with a loco drive. My Airfix one had a tender drive which means ironically you can see under the boiler on mine. Ironically the Hornby improvements as you note took this away , although people seem to prefer loco drives
Thanks Russell, yeah a few other people have said the same - so that must have been it! For sure - although I think it is an improvement overall, because the mechanism really is beautifully smooth! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Nice one Sam. You're bang on about pricing, I dont know where Hornby and Bachmann get some of their prices from. They probably pluck a number out of the air. Was looking at some goods wagons and Bachmann were wanting over £35 for a tanker. No motor or electrics to complicate things literally a plastic tube on 2 bogies! Have you ever considered putting your layour on a raised board so you could add more features like electric points and bridges etc?
Hi mate, thanks a lot for that - absolutely - it's got to the stage now where the pricing is blatantly deliberately inflated - especially with rolling stock! I think £50 for a coach is absolutely ludicrous!! I would like to put my layout on baseboards one day, but I find that children love it being on the floor! :D Thanks for watching, Sam :)
The vent was useful because hot air rises and in summer it could get unbearably hot without the vent. The Bachmann model represents the original Midland Railway 4F and S & D Armstrongs rather than the LMS and they were right-hand drive. The LMS were very similar but lacked the beading on the wheel arch. Initially the LMS 4Fs were right-hand drive but started being built as left-hand drive in 1925. The left-hand drive is the type being produced by Hornby. There were different chimneys on both types dependant on the year being modelled. I have both and I do find that the Hornby loco drive version is slightly quieter and draws slightly less power than the Bachmann. I am not sure that the side plate should have LMS on it since 43924 was built in Derby by the Midland Railway in 1920. The S & D versions were built by Armstrong Whitworth in 1922 and may have been in S & D Prussian Blue. The LMS 4Fs were built at Derby, Crewe and St Rollox. They did suffer from inadequate bearings and suffered from hot boxes which also occurred in the Beyer Garretts and the LMS Austin 7s. The 4Fs also suffered from draughting issues when working passenger trains and also shuttled badly between engine and tender when operating at speed, but they were never designed as passenger locomotives. Many drivers had a mechanism to improve steaming when operating passenger trains, but these were not official and the Midland, LMS nor BR did anything about the draughting, but this has been overcome in the preserved locomotives. So it was a shame that it was never done earlier because it could have made it a better locomotive. When you consider that they were being built at the same time as Hughes's Crab 2-6-0, you can see that they were already an old design (Originally 1911) and the Crab was a much stronger engine and much more free-running.
Absolutely Don! Thanks very much for the info on this - it's interesting to learn about the different variants of this design! Yeah of course - compared with the crabs, they're evidently pretty primitive, but still successful, weren't they?! Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Great review. You should definitely do some more comparisons between manufacturers. It would have been great to see the two side by side on the white background (even if it was just with some editing jiggery pokery). With the couple of Bachmanns I own I've found the locos are more detailed than hornby, but the accessories included just make them phenomenal (if you fit them). Would definitely be interesting to see it running with the hornby sound chip.
Thanks very much Edward - I really like the idea of doing that, I'm going to experiment with that for sure! I agree - I think Bachmann just about have the edge - though Hornby's newer models have been extremely good too! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Great review mate :) yeah this loco seems to be leaps and bounds ahead of the hornby one! The cab looks amazing and she doesn't run bad either, if I were you I'd be tempted to put the tts decoder in her, all the best mate--- Ben
Thanks so much - yeah agreed, it's definitely way better than the Hornby one! That's a very good idea actually - I'm going to seriously consider that! :D Thanks for watching, Sam :)
The overheating problem was caused by the Midland axelboxes. They have Very thight tolerance en They were quite small. So an Any distance run. They would overheat
The one you have is the Midland 3835 Class variant with the right hand drive while the Hornby one is the LMS Variant with the left hand drive. And on the tender, the upper plate is the builder's plate with the tender's works number. The Bachmann one you have, 43924, is one of the ones that is preserved in real life. The odd one out is that GWR 4-6-0.
No problem. I have the same one. Managed to get my hands on one when they first came out even. When I had gotten it I did a little research on the real life 43924 since it said as preserved for it on the Bachmann website and I found out it had been built by the Midland sometime around October 1920 (railuk.info syas 10/31/1920 for the build date) at the Midland's Derby works. Fun fact about the real 43924 is it is said that it was the first steam engine purchased for preservation from the Woodham Brothers Scrapyard.
If u look at the achieve pictures u see that both right (Bachmann/Hornby) variations, both existed. But i would give it a max score on details, dot to in this level it can not really be better, the working inside valves, lights, firebox and smoke... ect. is on a way higher price, and modelling category, where u use a pair of white silk glove to touch the model.
Ahh okay Tom - I'll have a look at those! Yes you are right - the detail is very good on this, but I'm being careful not to give full marks too easily too soon, otherwise if something better comes along... I'm in trouble ;D Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Looks good quality, I would not have been happy with the Hornby version either. By the way they seem to both be correct with that pipework on the side of the boiler. I have seen pictures and some have it on one side and some on the other!
Thanks Ian - for sure, the quality is way better on the Bachmann version. Yes I think that must be true - a few other people have said the same thing, All the best, Sam :)
Good Evening Sam, Onces again a magnificent review of the Bachmann Midland 4F Locomotive No.43924. I too own one myself, the running performance is flawless and the detail is smashing. I say Bachmann makes the best model 4F Locomotives. I seen 5 0-6-0 Locomotives, 4 0-6-0 Tender Locomotives and a 0-6-0 Fowler 3F Jinty in SD&JR Blue livery, the odd one out is the Great Western Railway Star Class. There is a new Hornby 0-6-0 Tender Engine going to be released in the Summer this year. It's the North British Railway C Class/ LNER Class J36 0-6-0 Tender Locomotive. Here is a link of this model with TTS Sound on Rails of Sheffield, this is No.673 Maude in North British Railway Black livery, the real locomotive is preserved and owned by the Scottish Railway Preservation Society located at the Bo'ness & Kinneil Railway in Scotland not far from Edinburgh. railsofsheffield.com/nbr-j36-class-0-6-0-673-maude-with-tts-sound-JJJA34842 Back to your review, again magnificent. 5 stars ☆☆☆☆☆ 10/10 😃
Hi Jordan, thanks so much for your kind comment as usual - I agree, these are all round great models! Very well spotted - yes it was the Star! Yes I've seen that new Hornby one - I have the TTS version pre-ordered! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
I'm proud you pre-ordered the Hornby J36 Maude with TTS Sound. I'm planning to get one too, but I'll remove the TTS Sound Chip and replace it with the Blanking Plate so she can run on DC, because my model railway layout in my shed is just DC. These models are due to be released in August.
Sam'sTrains well, in June this year we have our 50th anniversary gala, it's 9 days long with basically everything Worth Valley related there Such as: West Country City Of Wells S160 Big Jim 4f 43924 Coal Tank Taff Vale railway 85 Ugly 63 (I think) And many more...
No, yours must be a later release, are there any reference/part numbers on your service sheet?, I may see what sort of a job it would be to put some on them (assuming I can get the bits)
Hi Sam iv'e just been onto .Wikipedia to look at Fowler 4 F and the thingy ma bob on the side of the boiler is correct on Hornby model AND the same for the Bachmann model same with the break rod too .So there might have been a change at one time. So if you get time Sam have a look. That should clear things up.I just bought this model 2 months ago 2020 for £77.00 { Bachmann model that is } happy days. good video again Sam .Thank you
Het Sam. Great review as always, like to see the hornby bachmann comparison. The way you said stanier tank reminded me of something... Will you be reviewing either the bachmann 57xx or 64xx this year?
Hi Jake, thanks very much mate - I enjoyed doing that too, so I'll do it more often! I may well do - I'd love to give those a try! :D Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Blimey! If you saw a Hornby E2 for $190.... then don't walk... RUN! lol But yeah - the price of little tank engines has gone up a lot in recent years! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Awesome review as always mate! The 4F is a stunner, the Hornby has the edge with TTS and performance but the bachmann is ahead in terms of value and detail
Thanks very much Mark! I agree - the Hornby one performs more nicely (even though it has the rubber tyre arghh!), but the Bachmann wins overall I think :3 Cheers, Sam :)
Great review! I would love to pick this one up some day. That test you did with your bottom lip does work since I’ve also tried it before on model cars. XD So it isn’t as weird as you might think. Also your SOOO close to 18k subs. It might be early but congrats on the milestone.
Thanks very much mate! haha yeah it does work - weird as it is lol! Cheers mate - I really appreciate that - getting almost close to 20k noww!!!!! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Hey Sam I know I've been quiet for a while because of some laptop things and other ones and great review and I do think you should get the new version of the flying Scotsman to compare the old one to the new
Thanks a lot mate! It was a a local train fair - I didn't realise the tender was anything special to be honest though, lol ;D Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Wow Sam 43924 have known that engine from the Worth Valley since the 1980's! That model looks fantastic value will have to look out for one. She is a really nice Engine to see running in real life steam at the KWVR. Maybe you should gather together the models you have of preserved loco's and have a preserved engine running session? :-)
Ooh fantastic - I'm yet to see one in real life for myself! Absolutely - these really are good if you can find them for a good price! That's a very nice idea - I really will have to do that one day! :D Cheers, Sam :)
haha yeah that's true - a lot of them were! I'm not too sure of the reason, I don't know whether it was an official requirement, but I can think of a few which don't have black ones - the City Class for example! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
On prototypes three and even four cylinder models were much more popular and successful in uk. US avoided internal cylinders and valve gear. Also me chanical stokers were popular in modern steam in US. Any input? Or thoughts?
Ahh okay - I'm no expert on US locos actually, in fact I know very little - but in the UK, you'd find many 2, 3 and 4 cylinder engines built over the years, so you're right - a big variety! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
The loco on the third line is the one out, you just said it haha I think I'm wrong..... Isn't the loco on the third line Bell from ttte? (Day of the diesels) I wish I had the 4f dark blue version. 22:00 I think this is the official one out, she isn't a 0-6-0, but she is a br so never mind haha. Haha the cow followed the food on 23:56
haha well spotted - the GWR one?? Yeah you may be right actually - I'm not too sure though! Ooh yeah the blue would be absolutely lovely to have!! hehe well spotted with bullman ;D Cheers, Sam :)
Hi sam great review love the 4f just a quick question are all the new bachman loco fitted with a chip or do you have to buy the chip yourself and fitted?
HI Daniel, thanks very much! Generally none of the Bachmann locos come with a chip fitted - though they do produce some that have them! Also, if you look on the Hatton's website, they have options to chip their models before dispatching them to you! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Agree Sam. But Bachmann charge what enthusiasts will pay , not what it actually costs to produce .she is a nice model but I’m sticking with my Airfix 1978 one thus saving £106
Absolutely - and in doing so, they cut off their market of children and casual modellers - when it comes to value, you'll never beat the Airfix one! :D Although... Hornby's version is just the Airfix one with a different chassis... and they still managed to charge over £100 for it ;D Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Great video Sam. I have one 4f, an old Airfix model from around 1981. Having seen this i might have to get my flexible friend out. L M S and B R early crest me thinks. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🚄🚅
They are both correct, there's been versions with the reverser on either side of the engine
Thanks a lot for letting me know - yes that seems to be the general consensus! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
I literally saw this train pulling into Keighley Worth Valley Railway station yesterday. I live near the railway and am lucky enough to see regular runnings of steam trains and Diesel trains.
The 4Fs of this video:
•Fantastic
•Fabulous
•Fun
•Futile to resist
Railwolf 930 hahaha I love it!
haha that's awesome ;D
The model you have is one of the three actually preserved, 43924 is preserved at the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway.
Hornby loco wheels are undersize....too..
Duly noted Paul, many thanks for the info! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Ooh yeah I remember reading that too - how unusual!! ;D
But yeah - it is cool that they both did different versions!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)

I've just received mine, in LMS version, today, and you're right, this kettle looks good. Glad to see that the performances are good too.
Ooh very nice - really glad to hear yours is good! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Very Nice. I got a 4F a few years ago, and bought a great S&DJR 7F, 53808 in S&D livery at Stafford Model show, also bought one of those new GWR Shunting wagon! All amazing models for great prices.
Ooh very nice - glad you could have gotten one too - they are excellent for the money! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Sam'sTrains Matter of a fact, My 4F, 43875 Is on my layout right now. Running it with my new 7F.
The first two were introduced in 1911 by Henry fowler ,the first to be built in lms livery was 4027 and that's up in York 1924
Many thanks for the extra history on them Derek!
Cheers,
Sam :)
Love the vid unfortunately my 4f’s motors burnt out I’m really upset
Also my birthday is coming up so I’m getting an 03 , milk tankers , vans and a 20t brake van
Thanks mate! Awhh that's a real shame - could you contact Bachmann, and see if they could help??
OOh nice - hope you have an awesome birthday! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
Shazam-Fin- Trains happy birthday
One of my favorite trains posted on my birthday!
Great treat!
Ooh wow that worked out well! Happy Birthday mate! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
Sam'sTrains thanks
From the images I have looked at, there are indeed variations as to which side the reverser rod was on.
Yeah absolutely - a few other people pointed that out too - I never knew that was a thing! ;D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Me neither until I looked at images.
Flaps= cab doors. Items on running plate are bearing lubricators
Good choice! I've got the same model but mine is in midland black. I'd recommend getting the midland black version as it is in a beautiful livery!
Thanks a lot Jana - Ooh the midland black is lovely - I'll definitely take a look at them! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
You know, watching your videos really helps me to decide on which locomotives I want to get for my layout. Case in point, after seeing this video, I'll definetly go for the Bachmann 4F tender engine first as it has nice detail. Great video by the way, look forward to the next review.

Blimey - pretty scary that the bearings were melting!!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
This 4F (43924) Is actually the only pre-grouping operational loco left. So before 1923, it carried the MR red.
Ahh very interesting - thanks for this, duly noted!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Great review as always Sam. I really do like the idea of comparing models when you can, it's a great idea
Thanks so much Jose - I really enjoyed doing that too, so I'll do it again more often! :D

Thanks Vincent - 38 is no age! :/
Thanks for watching,

I love 0-6-0 tender engines.
Especially the GWR collets Goods.
I do too - and you're right, the Collet goods are absolutely lovely! :D
Thanks for watching,

Great video as always Sam, I can already see its going to be hard to beat that Hatton's p class
Thanks mate! Absolutely - I was very impressed by that P class! :D

The Bachman version is the right-hand drive variant and the hornby version is left-hand
Ahh okay that makes a lot of sense - thanks for letting me know! :D

Hey Sam buy a bachmann SD38 think it’s 120 dollars but it’s super detailed and fragile and it’s a American diesel so that’s a plus
oh that does sound good - I'll definitely take a look, thanks mate! :D

And on the tender, the upper plate is the builder's plate with the tender's works number. The Bachmann one you have, 43924, is one of the ones that is preserved in real life. The odd one out is that GWR 4-6-0.
Ahh many thanks for letting me know - a few other commenters have said the same, so that sounds right!
Thanks for the info,
Cheers,
Sam :)
I'm in trouble ;D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Sam I’ve enjoyed this video my railroad is expanding in size, well done for this video :)
Thanks so much! Ooh that's awesome - good luck with your railroad! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
Looks good quality, I would not have been happy with the Hornby version either. By the way they seem to both be correct with that pipework on the side of the boiler. I have seen pictures and some have it on one side and some on the other!
Thanks Ian - for sure, the quality is way better on the Bachmann version. Yes I think that must be true - a few other people have said the same thing,
All the best,
Sam :)
by looking at images i think the reverser can be on both sides
Ahh okay - that makes sense - thanks for letting me know! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Very nice, Its good to have a nice mixed traffic engine. I think had I started my Railway in 2015 This and a Jinty would have been my starter engines.
Thank you! Yes it's lovely to have a few mixed traffic locos! Ooh very nice - yes the Jinty is defnitely an essential :3
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Good Evening Sam,
Onces again a magnificent review of the Bachmann Midland 4F Locomotive No.43924.

Back to your review, again magnificent.

10/10 😃
Hi Jordan, thanks so much for your kind comment as usual - I agree, these are all round great models!
Very well spotted - yes it was the Star!
Yes I've seen that new Hornby one - I have the TTS version pre-ordered!
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
There always seems to be a bachmann vs hornby arrival between their models.
haha yeah it seems to come up a lot - it's quite an interesting topic I think though :3
Cheers,
Sam :)
You need to come up and see us at the Worth Valley and see the real 43924, she is just perfect for our line
Ooh I'd love to - I bet these are even better in real life (obviously!)
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Sam'sTrains well, in June this year we have our 50th anniversary gala, it's 9 days long with basically everything Worth Valley related there
Such as:
West Country City Of Wells
S160 Big Jim
4f 43924
Coal Tank
Taff Vale railway 85
Ugly 63 (I think)
And many more...
I've ridden on this loco (in real life, not the Bachmann version) and it really is lovely.
haha! Sounds great though - they do look lovely engines! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Yeah, the version you've got is the only Midland built one left, and the first engine saved from Barry scrapyard!
I have the weathered one, nice runner until it hits my single slips, for the money it should definitely have had pick ups on the tender.
Thanks Alan - I bet these are lovely weathered! Mine did have tender pick-ups - did yours not have them??
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
No, yours must be a later release, are there any reference/part numbers on your service sheet?, I may see what sort of a job it would be to put some on them (assuming I can get the bits)
Ooops! the problems is because mine is a 3f, but I'm old and easily confused LOL
Hey Sam sorry i did not comment sooner i'm feeling sick and i had no internet such a bad day but right video like always (Keep Going My Friend)
LaZeR JET I follow you too.
Hi mate, that's okay mate - sorry to hear that, really hope you feel better soon!!
Cheers,
Sam :)
Bachnann made a S&DJR version in blue for the collectors club
It looks like an L&YR class 28, James basis
donald and douglas also look similar 12:52 Tends ( tender) to be
haha yeah it does - loads of people have said that! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
I can’t remember where I saw it but someone painted their 4F into LNER colours
Great loco by the way
haha good gracious - I bet that made a lot of people very angry, lol ;D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Hey Sam!
What do you think about the GWR 2021 class? Great video btw, realy liked the 4F!
Hey! I don't know very much about them really - but looking at the photos, they seem lovely! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
That should clear things up.I just bought this model 2 months ago 2020 for £77.00 { Bachmann model that is } happy days. good video again Sam .Thank you
Thanks Tony! Yes I think they did make one of each - that rings a bell!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I like that S&DJR Jinty in the background.
Thank you! Yes those are lovely models :3
Cheers,
Sam :)
I do like the comparison, I know it sucks but I appreciate your comparison.
Thanks mate! The hornby one doesn't suck I don't think - it just should never have cost what it did ;D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Sam I am thinking of getting one with dc. Sound that has Ben used from hattons
That sounds great - hope you have fun with it! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
does a hornby loc fit on a fleismann track?
If it's H0/OO and 2 rail, then it should do yeah!! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I’ve went to my first ever train fair. And saw a train that was probably a E2 tank engine and was for 190$ didn’t know small engines go for that much!
Blimey! If you saw a Hornby E2 for $190.... then don't walk... RUN! lol
But yeah - the price of little tank engines has gone up a lot in recent years!
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
I always loved 4F locos, awesome video.
Thanks so much mate - me too!! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Awesome review as always mate! The 4F is a stunner, the Hornby has the edge with TTS and performance but the bachmann is ahead in terms of value and detail
Thanks very much Mark! I agree - the Hornby one performs more nicely (even though it has the rubber tyre arghh!), but the Bachmann wins overall I think :3
Cheers,
Sam :)
Some of the 4fs were lefthand drive and Some of them were right handdrive. That explains Why the equipment is on the left or right side
Ahh yes - quite a few people have said that, that explains it!
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Very nice loco Sam. I see the horse is still AWOL and I think there was an SE&CR blue 0-6-0 as the odd man out. ( only non BR loco) David.
Thanks David! Yes I investigated the Horse - he had fallen over - he's back up again for future videos!
Very well spotted!
Cheers,
Sam :)
Great video as always Sam! James was based on the 4F's but got a front bogie for some reason :D
Thanks a lot Andrew - I didn't know he was based on the 4F, I though he was the L&YR class 28?!
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Sam'sTrains he was a class 28 with a 2 6 0 wheel config
Great video as always Sam you are doing real great, fantastic, good, awesome. Keep up the good work.
Greetings Jens
Thanks so much Jens - I really do appreciate your support,
Cheers mate,
Sam :)
4f is one of my favorite locos
Ooh nice - I can definitely see why you like them! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Hey Sam I know I've been quiet for a while because of some laptop things and other ones and great review and I do think you should get the new version of the flying Scotsman to compare the old one to the new
That's okay mate! Ooh I really like that idea - I'd love to get a super detailed Flying Scotsman one day! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
Great vid and have you done the west country class (rebuilt)
Thanks very much mate! Yeah I have done a few of those - Wrenn ones anyway! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
Could you maybe do a re-review of the Bachmann G2A?
Definitely! I need to do her again soon!
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Hi Sam! Wonderful loco. Do you think the other Hornby 4F locos are the same as the TTS Sound 4F?
Hi Kamil, thanks a lot! Yes they're all the same - with minor variations in paintwork and running numbers of course! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Lovely! Where did you get that version with the Fowler tender? Bachmann seems to produce only 4fs with Johnson tenders nowadays...
Thanks a lot mate! It was a a local train fair - I didn't realise the tender was anything special to be honest though, lol ;D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Good review, I definitely know to buy from Bachmann now.
Thank you! Absolutely - their UK stuff is fantastic! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Looks nice great review Sam
Do you think it is better than the hornby one
Thanks a lot! Other than it's performance, I think it's way way better than the Hornby one! :3
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Cheers,
Sam :)
Thanks Sam will look forward to it :-}
One thing I’ve noticed but never known why is all the British buffer beams are red is it required by law for them to be red or was it just a trend
haha yeah that's true - a lot of them were! I'm not too sure of the reason, I don't know whether it was an official requirement, but I can think of a few which don't have black ones - the City Class for example!
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
I brought a weathered modified airfix 4f that runs well for £14 at a swap meet
Wow, you can't go wrong with that!! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
5:42 Did you hear that clicking sound??
Did you break something?
Hmmm... I'm not sure actually, it may have just been a coupling hook??
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
On prototypes three and even four cylinder models were much more popular and successful in uk. US avoided internal cylinders and valve gear. Also me chanical stokers were popular in
modern steam in US. Any input? Or thoughts?
Ahh okay - I'm no expert on US locos actually, in fact I know very little - but in the UK, you'd find many 2, 3 and 4 cylinder engines built over the years, so you're right - a big variety!
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
The loco on the third line is the one out, you just said it haha I think I'm wrong.....
Isn't the loco on the third line Bell from ttte? (Day of the diesels)
I wish I had the 4f dark blue version.
22:00 I think this is the official one out, she isn't a 0-6-0, but she is a br so never mind haha.
Haha the cow followed the food on 23:56
haha well spotted - the GWR one??
Yeah you may be right actually - I'm not too sure though!
Ooh yeah the blue would be absolutely lovely to have!!
hehe well spotted with bullman ;D
Cheers,
Sam :)
Great video! Sorry, I'm late I was out photographing Galatea.
Thanks mate! That's okay - hope you had a good time!! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Hi sam great review love the 4f just a quick question
are all the new bachman loco fitted with a chip or do you have to buy the chip yourself and fitted?
HI Daniel, thanks very much! Generally none of the Bachmann locos come with a chip fitted - though they do produce some that have them! Also, if you look on the Hatton's website, they have options to chip their models before dispatching them to you!
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Sam'sTrains thanks sam 👍
You should show a bachmann Baldwin 4-6-0 steam locomotive
I'd love to - that'd be awesome! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
Once again very nice review Sam, and a lovely loco.............John.
Thanks again John - really glad you liked it mate!
Cheers,
Sam :)
Although... Hornby's version is just the Airfix one with a different chassis... and they still managed to charge over £100 for it ;D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Only now did i notice that it looks like an l&yr class 28 (James' basis)
Yeah it does a little, you're right! :D
This is my favorite Steam Locomotive for Goods and maybe for more stuff
Ooh good choice - I can really see why you like these so much :3
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Sam'sTrains your welcome and keep up the awesome work
i love the loco
good work sam!!!
Thanks very much Steve, you're very kind! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
Great video Sam. I have one 4f, an old Airfix model from around 1981. Having seen this i might have to get my flexible friend out. L M S and B R early crest me thinks. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🚄🚅
Thanks very much Mark, ahh sounds lovely - but yes, I think you'll notice a huge difference in this model! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
It kind of looks like James from the Rev. W. Awdry's model layout.
haha yeah it does actually! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
@@SamsTrainscan you compare it with the Hornby LMS 4f?
For a split second I thought this to be the same class as James, a Class 28 locomotive from the L&YR.
haha I know!! It definitely looks like him! ;D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Woo! 4F banter. Love Midland designs, except for the dreaded midland axle boxes.
haha yes indeed - they sound like a real joy they do ;D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Oh Sam I’m real life in America some coal was glossy in real life depending the coal and the loco
Ahh okay - I guess I see what you mean - I prefer it in matt personally though, on models that is! :3
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
In November can you do a review on the new hornby duchess of Hamilton
I'd love to - I'll see what I can do! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
I have one of these engines, and its quite good! And just a question, how many model engines do you have? Thanks. And great review!
Thanks Paul, absolutely - I find these to be very good! I don't know exactly how many, but I'm pretty sure it's over 300 now! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
wow!
You should do the Bachmann 7F if you get the chance Sam
Mark Horner Really? I didn’t know that. Thanks Mark
Mark Horner no it wasn’t sarcasm
Absolutely! And I have filmed the review now - I'm just waiting to release it! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
great video. you need to review the bachmann 7f.
Thank you! Absolutely - I've filmed the review - it's coming soon! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
the 4f is a alrounder nice loco! Good video!
Thanks Marco - I think she is too! :D
Cheers mate,
Sam :)
Great video as usual Sam, keep `em coming. Ever thought about doing a regular "clinic" for problems of the railway variety?
Thanks a lot Philip! Ooh that's a fun idea, hehe! ;D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Really nice. Than again, if they did the Southern Q Class, I couldn’t tell the difference.
haha that's okay mate! Thanks a lot for the comment,
Sam :)
is the odd one the GWR 4-6-0 or the jinty? but if you didn't review that jinty, could you? I like the S&DJR livery
Yes I think the odd one out will be the 4-6-0 - well spotted mate! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
I got a Robinson class j11 Bachmann for 55 pounds today
Wow that's a super duper price - those are very nice too! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Yes Sam I was flabbergasted because they are about 90 pounds
