- JFRD responded to a two story abandoned house with heavy smoke showing upon arrival. This home was known to be abandoned and posed some problems for crews working. First and foremost, it was known that there were holes in the floor on the second story...and while the home still needed to be searched for occupants, access to the second story was extremely dangerous...also the stairs were in bad disrepair, access to the second story had to be made from the roof.
This home was also split up, possibly set up as apartments at one point, but the flow of the house was not normal. Finally, this was an older home...balloon frame construction provided for void spots and chases for smoke and fire to travel and avoid extinguishment.
No injuries were reported from this fire and the cause was attributed to misuse of lighting materials.

I am watching from Elmira NY there is a lot of abandoned houses fires up here
thanks elmira
how to make the city finally tear down that abandoned house unfit for habitation?... this right here
Someone owns it
@@thejfrd2490 who? the house is abandoned so who owns it? the city? so if the city owns it they should of either sold it off or demoed the building and sell the land for development? why let it sit and rot? burning it and then selling the empty lot back would of been the better option here
Pretty sure they’ll be back some time in the near future. Such a waste of time and effort but they have a job to do.
that is not uncommon.
