you know, miracles happen everyday. Like when a child who cant walk takes there first steps. Or when the guy who isnt quite sure how to loosen or tighten the drag still catches fish. Great video bro
Good fish I’ve fished that bridge for 35 years can I make a suggestion release the fish back in the hoop net please don’t throw them off the bridge most of them die from the 35 40 foot fall they bust their bladder I believe look forward to running into you some day
Hey Jeff! Thanks for the compliment :) I probably have seen you out there. Although last few years, I haven’t been up there as much. To be honest, a huge reason we cut down on the time fishing up there was just because of that. The drop is tough on em and even when lowering them down on the net, some would still have issues not turning up right. I’d be up on the bridge more and all of that is the striper fishery wasn’t hurting so much. Been doing more fishing on ground level to reduce the risk of not so great releases :)
I hear ya man. Things are constantly changing. The numbers are real low for numerous reasons. Trawls seem to be a big factor. Dams built, hurt the population in areas. I'm sure you know this, but for anyone reading - these fish are like the Bunker of a lot of river systems. The alewife numbers are bad too :/
@@country_boy21 it is. But some just don't know what they are doing. One guy had his kid run the fish to his car from the bridge. All different types of messed up. The wardens and marine police seemed to have stuff covered early in the season. No where to be found now.
I went kayak fishing this morning and caught nothing. I launched at ancarrows landing. Not one single bite. Any tips for fishing the James on the shore and on the water this time of year?
Well, you're in the right spot for sure. What is it exactly that you want to catch and how are you fishing for em? Bait, lures..? From shore is tough. Depending. Depends if the area you are fishing is rough or soft ground. With the constant flow of the river, having weight on the bottom makes things hard. It has to be heavy enough to sit and stay. Not roll under a rock and get stuck or have your bait under a rock and not doing any good. So from the shore, feel for soft ground and toss lead that wont roll. Live bait from shore, very difficult, as many people float live baits, the river will just keep taking it down. Fishing lures from shore is a much better bet. Many turn to topwater as the swim baits get lost in the rocks. Gets expensive. Takes a while to kinda map out snags in a fishing hole. On the water you are limitless. If it were me on a yak, I would float live shad or perch while having another rod to throw lures on. If you can narrow down the scope of the question, I might be able to have a more direct answer.
Zack Bostick Thanks! I was kayaking around the walls of Ancarrow’s Landing and also the small island downstream if you know what I was talking about. I was throwing shad darts and a gold pet spoon trying to catch a few shad. Also I was throwing some top water, spinner baits, and a dark blue storm search bait. I am kind of new to fishing the river. So it would be great if you could give me some spots to fish from shore and what to use to catch some fish. Thanks!
@@peytonfristoe2694 no problem. try the bank at 14th street bridge. By the small rapids. The water is clearing up. But a few days ago, you would want to throw chartreuse or white while the water was a bit murky. But gold for the shad is always a pretty good bet. Try adjusting what part of the water column the spoon is running through. Speed or retrieve too.
You are right. I don't really eat anything that come out of this part of the river. These are migratory fish, so the majority of thier lives are spent in salt water. So there are plenty of striper in the Salt water that have been exposed to water like this and even worse. But to further your point, yes there are resident striper here. At this point, all of them need to be released. A study showed that a big percentage of striper were caught and only killed to be taken back to be officially weighed. Weren't even eaten. Maybe they will start doing them like the Big Reds.
@@ZackBostick yeah your right. It no point in killing the fish it you are going to eat it. That bridge must have a lot of fish. I always see alot of people out there on Sundays.

Nice video, you are blowing the spot man with your videos more people started showing up and cops too lol
@@saudisaudi1022 what are you doing out there that cops should be worried about?
One question 🤔 where can I park to get over there?
They have been changing the parking access. I usually park at flood wall but not against it. They will tow.
Have you tried this at JRB?
I have but I don’t typically fish that pier much. Know they have everything over there but just haven’t been in a while.
I've tried it since this post lol. Nothing! How exactly do you use it? You throw it out and let it sit with the sinker or Cast and retrieve?

Can also try fishing the large wall across from ancarrows. A lot of spots around the river are tricky to fish bc of stuff right behind ya.
Zack Bostick thanks. I will try out those spots in a few weeks. I am not necessarily sure how to control what depth I’m fishing at though
Any fishing this year
Not as much As I wanted to but picking up the pace now!
Great I live in Petersburg Virginia where is some good spots for Stryper fission in the James not familiar with the area I moved here from Louisiana
I went there yesterday
How ya do?!
Good
The James has to much trash in the water to try and keep the fish
