Awesome first time Halibut from a yak!! I discovered a technique for bleeding a halibut many years ago that works incredibly well. Do not cut the gills. Use a serrated knife to cut through the spine near the tail fin. Leave the remaining uncut portion intact in case you need to verify the legal length. Put on a stringer and watch the blood flow out much better than any other technique I have seen. When you fillet the fish later there will be no blood in the fillets . This makes the fish taste better and keep longer. I hope you give it a try.
Great catch congratulations. I don't know how I bumped into your Channel but I'm glad I did nice movie inspiring great job. I wish you can tell us and show us the hooks and the bait you use for fishing the bait
It would be cool if you put a quick gear rundown on the screen for each rig you use in your vids: rod, reel, line, tackle. Even if it just showed on screen for a few seconds when you first start using it, us noobs could pause it and read it. I'd also like to see a vid on how you have your Outback set up.
I do try to go over the rigs I am using in my newer vids. Hopefully that helps! But I have not gone over my kayak setup so I will try to do that in an upcoming video. Thanks for the suggestion!
Die Hard Fishing awesome. I need to check that place out. I've gotten skunked quite a few times at SC Municipal, but with salmon opening on sat I will probably be in that area a bit more often.
Man that whole ordeal with you trying to land that fish, return the gaff with fish in hand, and then putting it on your stringer sounds like it would have made for some excellent footage HAHAHA. Congrats on the halibut, that thing was a beauty. And shoutout to Mystery Gaff Man for saving the day. Looking forward to hopefully a cook portion of this yak outing.
yo,if you from the area, we gotta hook up,i have teh same hobie too. im not that experienced yet and i work alot, but i try to get out there when i can havent tried for butt yet, just rf and lings
Sounds good. Hope to see you on the water! If you want to meet up with other kayak anglers check out www.norcalkayakanglers.com They have meetups all the time.

Have you ever caught any pacific halibut up that way or is it just California halibut?
Just California halibut

Nice fish! How did you rig the anchovy?
Thanks! Just hooked it through the nose with a single J hook
nice fish! but why do you strip line out? you do it in other vids also.
Just to check the drag to make sure it is set properly.
What did you use to catch bait? was that a sabiki rig?
Yep!
Great catch congratulations.
I don't know how I bumped into your Channel but I'm glad I did nice movie inspiring great job.
I wish you can tell us and show us the hooks and the bait you use for fishing the bait
Thanks for checking out the channel! I am working on doing more of that in my current videos so stay tuned!
How do you rig your Anchovy for Halibut, if you don't mind me asking? I think there are many more in your future. Thanks for the video.
Hey Steve, I usually rig the anchovies through the nose.
I seen a stinger/treble hook. Do you skin hook the anchovy also?
Is that pier near Manresa? Will the boardwalk? Great video!
What do you use to get the anchovies? Great halibut btw congrats
I use a sabiki rig. Thanks!
Were you jigging for the bait with a bare hook?
No I was using a sabiki
congrats on the new kayak, and the halibut!
Thanks!
Nice.. what did you use to catch the bait fish??
I used a saki rig.
Cool video and great catch! Is your kayak an Outback or Revo?
Thanks! It is an outback.

Why the hell do you keep touching the line ?
To check the drag
What's your setup for catching bait?
I usually use a sabiki with a 1 or 2 ounce weight
Good work man! I've been thinking to take my slayer out into the ocean. That water looks pretty calm. Is this in socal?

Die Hard Fishing awesome. I need to check that place out. I've gotten skunked quite a few times at SC Municipal, but with salmon opening on sat I will probably be in that area a bit more often.

It is a 9 foot g Loomis salmon rod, though I use it for more than just salmon, haha
Cool. Im gonna use 6.6 shimano trevala.
Good luck! Hope you get a giant!
We should hook up at Oysterpoint on april or ARW.
Sounds good!
I wasn't aware you can use two poles in saltwater, I thought that was only for freshwater???
It depends what species of fish you are targeting.

Die Hard Fishing
I'm such a noob, I would even appreciate a tutorial on how to take a fish off the line without getting bit! (for example, a lingcod)
I just did a video titled "How to hold a fish". Check it out!
@@DieHardFishing, Thank you!
That was a fantastic looking halibut. Great job! How long have you been kayak fishing?
Thanks! This was my first real trip on the kayak! Beginners luck I guess, haha
Nice catch!
JO JO IN VT 💕 😊
Thanks for watching!

Thanks!
lol actually anchovies are literally the hardest to keep alive ...
They have been pretty easy for me. Easier than other baitfish at least.
Where is the catch and cook bro! Halibut it the best eating fish in the Ocean...
Hopefully this year if I can catch another one!
@blacktipH
seriously---did you catch your bait on bare hooks? humorously---and use the leftover anchovies for pizza?

lol, I got the halibut on a j hook. I like the treble hook on the two hook rigs though
Get a bait tank kid.
