Plot twist, he spoke fluent German despite what you'd read. He won the medal of Honor for that. He also snuck behind enemy lines to a bar frequented by German soldiers and officers. Killed a guy, took his uniform, out drank a spy, and had the whole garrison who was unwinding before a fight run away, since he told them that they were getting ready to send everyone to the front lines. He didn't get an award for that because he took off his uniform. I think he was in the OSS based on stories I heard. But he didn't talk about his service much, just that he'd jump out of airplanes with a dog in his bag. And he'd always have root beer barrel candies for the kids and he'd swim the Newell, PA bend in the river with the kids on his back acting like a boat or submarine, making the noises and diving under. He could still do a 10 count until his dying day.

Question for the first story: How did Leo manage to bring 93 POWs to the allied lines, when the SS killed and wounded some of the 93 POWs, while Leo was on the way? If some got killed, there had to be fewer than before. Or did he capture 3-5 more Germans after the skirmish, to make up for the casualties inflicted by the SS?
