As far as I'm concerned, this is the theme of *them*, the machines. Every time you year this, *they* are on the centre of the stage, not you - you seem them emulating Humanity to the best of their ability, in ways that the Androids - supposedly the more "human", simply cannot. They attempt to raise their "young", and explore feelings such as love, and you, the human that you are, attempt to stop them because it's all you know - surely, they are malfunctioning? Even as they cry that "this cannot continue", you mete out unabated violence, because it's all you know, because it's only natural to defend against the uncanny. When they discover belief, and their leader "ascends", they attempt to allow their entire civilization to do the same. You, the human that you are, attempt to stop them because it's all that you know. Surely, they have gone insane? Even as they claim to have "become as gods", you mete out unabated violence once more, because it's all you know, because it's only natural to defend against the uncanny. There's more to it than that, as well. Within the language of the music, there are primal sounds. Staccato instrumentation and chanting, over a drumbeat that drives everything forward without pause, showing the primitive nature of the Machines - they are the very basics of what makes us Human, and cannot seem to move beyond that. The clang of metal present in the drums, the reverberation of instruments that don't sound all unlike struct industrial tubing, they let you know it's the artificial who are taking the spotlight. The Machines are the very foundation of the human condition, taken to the extremes. Curiosity, fear of the unknown, the familial unit, and the retention of belief in the face of adversity - met with what we have brought upon all in our way, sheer conquest - something that permeates every aspect of our lives in varying degrees of subtlety, whether we are overcoming adversity as the conqueror, or paying our tithes as the conquered do.
