Exactly !!
Because everything is not what it seems.
Why should I question the instruction to question everything?
My kids use the Socratic method.
"Get your shoes on."
"Why?"
"We're going out."
"Why?"
"We need to go shopping."
"Why?"
"Because we need to buy food."
"Why?"
"Because we're running low."
"Why?"
"Because we've eaten most of it."
"Why?"
"... Get your shoes on."
Because u need food to survive, succeed, and get a woman
Why?
Because women are awesome when they like u
Why
Because their genetic makeup .... I'm out of ideas here
Simon , Love the balance and logic of your videos. Your education is showing through. Thank you for sharing.

Imagine if he went on a podcast. "So Socrates have you tried DMT?"

Are you saying that Igret was a student of Socrates?
‘’The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.’’ ~Socrates
Dude
I know plenty of things!
Know nothing precisely about no thing. Take a position.
Why shouldn't you?
My main man, Socrates! Observe everything. Believe nothing. Don't take it personally. A life well lived.
I am Greek and an engineer and I am a very critical thinker. Once I was dismissed from a job because somebody said I was too negative! I said are you really going to put that in writing so I can report that to Human resources and the Labor department? The manager on his next breath then said the reason I was dismissed because they just hired some new direct salary people and contractors are low on the totem pole. And I have found that many if not most people do not like when you question their methods or motives or anything, They take it as an insult and will lash out at you and try to deflect from the questions you asked
@@gkprivate433 Nobody likes being questioned. Especially your superiors.
@@gkprivate433 Great, mate. You sound like a wise person. I would love to get to know you. What kind of engineer are you ? I am also an engineer. Not a good one yet, but at least I am one. Also, I need your help, if you don't mind ...

If you're going down the philosopher route, could I suggest Diogenes? His lifestyle is barely believable but his cynicism was legendary..
Diogenes! I have a tattoo of his alleged meeting with Alexander the Great on my chest. My life motto is "Truly, if I were not Diogenes, I would be Alexander" :P
Or François-Marie Arouet also known as voltaire
Would love to see Diogenes or Zeno of Citium
@@gaiusjuliuspleaser Is your life motto suppose to be a joke about that quote? "Truly, if I were not Alexander, I would be Diogenes."
@Terry Parker That's where I heard of Diogenes first! Love Sam O'Nella
More Classical Greek figures are worthy of covering, but if I can make a suggestion, Thucydides deserves more coverage. He's the father of scientific history, and was an incredible person that forever changed how history would be covered.
Most of the Greeks stole their philosophy and science from the Arabs, Chinese, and Egyptians, who had known these things to be natural truths that didn't need the ego of a name behind them..
Him and Zico in midfield was the best midfield duo. '82 Brazil is a joy to watch. ;)

Whoa whoa whoa, I thought it was Abe Lincoln who said that...
My ex wife once told me that "I need to get a job", I replied "why?". That's why she's my ex. She never supported my pursuit into the philosophical practices and she's no better for it.
The walls in my bedroom are brick. One day I decided I was going to try to write a quote on every brick. There are a lot of Socrates quotes on my wall now.

That was fascinating! I was aware of Socrates' skepticism towards democracy, under the notion that an uneducated and simple-minded society can literally vote itself into destruction and despair, but I hadn't known all that much about his life, nor the details of his death.
Thanks for making this. No doubt society and history lost a great man upon his death.
As always, these Biographics videos are a great way to pass the time. Thanks for making them. Keep up the good work.

incredible presentation
i love your way of presentation the huge biography in small detailed version
Good one Simon thanks
Marcus Aurelius and Marcus Tulius Cicero when?!
100% agreed. Marcus Aurelius is a godlike stoic and Cicero was one of the greatest statesmen of antiquity. Both men typify the virtuous Roman that the history books would have us believe all Romans were.
Cand ai de gand sa tragi in teapa niste persoane care fac numai tampenii?

The qoute "Know thyself" come from the ancient Egyptians. This was the best presentation on the great Socrates I've seen. Your videos are accurate and precise. Socrates was a fearless sagacious man of impeccable moral standards and principles. He reminds me of the great Stoics.

I love these videos and I didn't realize how much I look forward to them until I just got this notification. Keep up the good work!
Wow ‼️Thank you for the information ‼️
The Apology is a great short read, about 60 pages, IIRC. I read it about 35 years ago in my teens and it was interesting to be reminded as you recounted the gist of it. "Apology" in those days was more akin to "My Defense". It is the story of his trial as told by Plato. I do remember his audacity when asked for his sentence... he reasoned that since he had actually helped the youth, and thus the future of Athens, he should be rewarded with a great feast like the athletes in the Olympics... that didn't fly, lol. Also, how he reasoned that he should not escape bc he did not agree with the outcome of a system he was a member of. That really hit me deep, that if we choose to be a part of something, we cannot simply refuse the rules when we don't like the outcome.
Obviously, that concept was lost on Hillary. ;)
Damn man... That's one heck of a way to leave off. What a baller.
Good video, thanks for doing the research.
These are fantastic videos Simon. Keep up the great work. 👌👏
*Socrates contradicts himself*
Also Socrates: "I'm saying nothing."
He definitely said "nothing", so there's no contradiction.
Thanks for this. Socrates is talked about in a god like manner. I think it’s good that the man behind the myth gets discussed
Christ seems to take the credit.
I really enjoyed this video, it's so interesting that you cover people from history. I have a suggestion if you that I think might be interesting, how about Giuseppe Garibaldi.

Marcus Aurelius also held Socrates in such a high regard. Epic video Simon!

Who else decided to see this biography after playing AC: Odyssey? It is unfortunate that the Socrates of the game did not seem to ever argue against democracy. I feel that it would have been an interesting addition, especially considering the story surrounding the cult...

Our society has become so aesthetic. Socrates would be ignored by nearly everyone if he lived among us today, based on appearance alone.
Wow. Never knew about Socrates to this extent. You guys did a commendable job of reading through and condensing it in a manner palatable to a normal human.
Thank you.
I like how he roasted fake peers for assuming the things they were simply regurgitating as facts were not knowledge, and the knowledge that there is stuff we all are intentionally left not knowing is all we can say we know of for sure through life. Everyone else was too affraid to speak up and lose everything they bluffed and lied through to get up to that point, and he on principal alone knew he didn't make them worse, he made them more capable to challenge oppressive society despite all bodycount and policies stacked against him, even RUEing him for questioning a stability of opulence. That is someone so concerned with loop breaking for the better and all for an ungrateful society too experientially inept to realize at the time.

The most important thing people need to know about Socrates is that his philosophies and hypotheses can't define how I be droppin' these mockeries.
Religious society in a nutshell
Anyone: Questions something
The zealots: *angry*
If you watched the video, you would know that Socrates didn't actually have any qualms with the religion of the time, the charges were brought up against him because he was annoying, not because he was necessarily guilty of them.
With the astonishing amount of content you and your team consistently put out, with equal attention spread out over three extremely popular and educational channels; you have every right to put ads anywhere you choose. Because without those ads, you couldn’t keep enlightening the world with an incredible amount of knowledge at the same rate because you’d need some other full time job to survive.
People can shove it if they have a problem with any ads because they can’t be bothered to use simple logic. You invested money into these quality productions and I hope the voices of appreciation are louder than the ones of ignorance and makes all of this hard work worth it for you. Thank you.
