I was at the last match at Newcastle when he was a player when the helicopter came into the ground to lift him out. He was a king on Tyneside & he always gets my ultimate respect. A Newcastle fan here and I wouldn't have swapped Keagan for any other manager in the world. We didn't win anything but he loved Newcastle football club and nothing could beat the atmosphere at St James's during the Keagan years. His grandfather, father and uncle were all from the North East's mining industry and I think he genuinely thought a lot for the people up here. I remember taking my kids to watch the team train at Maiden Castle and Keagan would stop back and talk to the kids and sign autographs, long after the training had finished. I also remember a story from someone who wrote a letter to Kevin asking if he could donate some NUFC memorabilia for a charity fund raising afternoon in a local village. Kevin turned at the event unannounced and spent a few hours there. He didn’t ask for anything or want any thanks, he just wanted to give something back.
I agree here that without doubt Pardew would have been given the same treatment Keegan got but the difference between the two men is that Keegan had a backbone and some dignity in him to stand up to Ashley and co and he told them he wasn't going to have his position undermined, his reputation dragged through the mud and he wasn't going to stand in front of the fans and cameras and lie to them. Keegan's 2nd spell had him as manager in name only. Everything was done by crooks like Wise, Jimenez, Vetere, Ashley and Llambias and he rightly quit. Shearer got the same type of treatment. Got told he'd be named permanent manager and then when he tried to call the club about talks etc they just ignored him, then in comes Joe Kinnear. Pardew was so fortunate to land a job as big as NUFC and therefore spent everyday sticking up for Mike Ashley no matter how many times MA dropped him in it. Palace gave him the easy option out and I would say that AP is now managing at the level that suits him.
loved keegan, awesome humble attitude, intelligent, lots of experience on the pitch him self, could not ask for a better manager. The big problem with newcastle is ashley, total crook who is useless
I liked pardew to be honest. He was just given french flops and he got the best out of them (for the best part). His brand of football was more entertaining than it is now. Only downsides were his anger and him being a yes man to Ashely.

The club was supposed to be in trouble over Kevin's claim for Constructive dismissal. Shows what lies Mike Ashley will spin on the public. This is still going on.
And only had to tighten up defensively in the last few matches and Newcastle would have won the league ! I’m a Man United fan and that’s my honest take…
