  • This video is showing whole process of realization of one of my unique design lighter concepts. This lighters body is made out of Zippo Fuel Canister. Other parts are made out of brass by turning on mini metal lathe. Spark wheel and flint spring are original Zippo parts. Lighter has great performance and looks really lush with steampunk tint. Hope you enjoy whole process as I did.

    Over built with great craftsmanship ! Love it ! That was cool the way the knurling (sp?) grip was added...always wondered how that was done . An idea ... if a cap was added to the flint stem , then it would be 100% waterproof until needed ! Also , small brass tubes (w/caps) could be soldered on side for extra flints , wicks and wick pick and maybe some chain or wire for caps on the Super-Duper DX model , the perfect survival fire and light source .

      its called craftsmanship & pride in your work. excellent job!
      America was once a Country that made things - great things.
      our people took pride in their chosen fields, even the weekend hobbyists.
      people like this guy are a dying breed. they take time to draft an idea create plans, following them precisely, using patience and proper quality machines/tools. the result - a best in class hand-made product!
      we are in instant gratification world now with internet n tech moving at warp speed.
      it was so good to see a video with the antithesis of our new world mantra affecting so many young kids and 20 somethings.
      there is value in doing things as those before us once did.
      we’re losing respect for traditions, just discounting wisdom of those before us as we would the technology in a 10 yr old car.
      i feel that has been a mistake of society. i hope that might change before it’s too late?
      sorry i went long - as i was writing it just turned nostalgically stream of consciousness for me. ☺️

Maybe I'm just a simpleton. But I think that your machinist skills and ability to make a better product shows a tremendous amount of creativity. Nice work on the lighter project, you might put some of these on ebay just for shits and giggles.

    • @Elitman

    But can you create a zippo-type lighter that doesn't evaporate fluid? One that will retain most of the fluid and not evaporate quickly like a zippo does.

    • @Elitman
      @Elitman  Год назад

      Zippo style lighters won't retain fuel as good as lighter which has wick closed by threaded cap sealed with o-ring. I have one project in pipeline which is basically closed construction lighter insert which fits any zippo sleeve and it has its own threaded and sealed wick cap + some extra features. The only disadvantage is that when you open sleeve you have to unscrew cap to expose wick. It takes some extra time and removes an option of quick strike typical for zippo lighters. Will post video in the future
