I had to laugh at this, but in a good way. John Tesh, famous pianist and outspoken Christian, introduced this story about Petra while still working for Entertainment Tonight. Talk about a flashback!
They certainly outsold many of their peers, but there are many bands in the genre that fit the 'greatest ever' mantra. And since there are fewer and fewer Christian rock bands coming into play these days, they will probably always be one of the largest known bands in Christian culture.
Duane R He denies it but I know Bill Glover personally and I think he may be the Unknown Petra Fan. In case you do not know Bill Glover is a founding member of Petra. He was their first drummer.

I always thought John Shlitt from Petra sounded a lot like James Labrie in Dream Theater.. only way better. I loved Petra's more prog stuff.
