  • Let’s face it. I’ll never get over Fleabag. And neither will you. It’s okay, we’re in it together, we’ll get through it.
    Season 3 of Fleabag ain’t happenin so we’re forever blessed with rewatching the 2 seasons repeatedly which is not a problem for me because the whole show is literal perfection.
    Anyways hope you enjoyed this video. Olivia Colman is the best I love her to death. Go watch Fleabag if you haven’t already and if you have go watch it again. I don’t care how many times you’ve seen it.

    I think the only reason Fleabag's father chose to remain with her godmother is because somewhere he knew that she will be loathed by everyone.
    At one point he admitted in front of Fleabag that he was kinda jealous of her own mother because she was so lively and had fun streak. Since the godmother possessed none of these qualities, he didn't feel like a nobody. Somewhere he didn't like Fleabag because she reminded him of his perky wife.

    • @Reu8enofleon
      @Reu8enofleon 3 года назад +462

      Yeah I’ve always liked that subtle part. Claire admires Fleabag as much as Fleabag admires Claire because Fleabag is able to be herself and express her feelings in a way that Claire sometimes wishes she had the courage to.

      @dantan7881 3 года назад +296

      @@Reu8enofleon exactly. The sisters agree in a lot of things, but react/are allowed to react differently. Claire had to continue portraying the poster child, and had to keep up this facade in front of everybody. This is why she is wound up so tight, and envies Fleabag because Fleabag's allowed to be more irreverent and be messy.
      Fleabag has become everyone's enemy because of how she just freely reacts/acts on things, but admires Claire for having the generally accepted standard of success. She's married, has a great job, and is accomplished - none of which can be said about Fleabag.
      But they have mutual love, respect and understanding of each other. They were feeling sorry for their dad for being caught up in that relationship, hated their stepmother because she's a c*nt, and were each other's go-to at their lowest points. On the surface, seems like an unlikely pair, but deep inside they are bonded strongly.

    While watching this show, I couldn’t help but think that Fleabag is a lovable but deeply flawed person who has occasionally been cruel to people like Harry and Boo. We’re seeing the show from Fleabag’s point of view. If we saw Godmother’s backstory and inner life, would she seem as villainous?

No one is really good or evil, but fleabag, especially at the end of s1, is pretty honest about how sh*t she thinks she is. She's flawed, like most people. I think godmother being so fake, opportunistic & in direct competition & comparison with fleabag's mother is what seals it. Her sister doesn't like her & the father isn't exactly in love with her, he even called her annoying. Godmother swooping in while they're mourning their mother is what makes it so easy to see why she's hated. Fleabag felt a bond to her mother & godmother has actively & boldly tried to take her place.

    • @charliebrown1796

      Absolutely. It’s a case of the unreliable narrator. It’s a one-sided perspective. For example, when we first meet Claire, she describes Claire in an unflattering way “probably anorexic” but that proves not to be true. She also tries to run away from the audience when the truth about Boo’s death is revealed, showing that she was trying to hide that fact from “us.” It makes the story even more interesting to think about the subjective nature of it.

    The only reason to have a Season 3 would be for a outsider of Fleabag's family to just point out bluntly how awful Godmother is. Just picture it: Godmother is chatting away, maybe putting down Fleabag down or just treating people like objects similarly to what she does in the last episode at the wedding. And then unprompted, a new friend of Fleabag (maybe a new waitress working at the cafe), just bluntly says "your a bit of a c*nt/ bitch, aren't ya", not even as a question. To which there is dead silence from everyone, even Fleabag is shocked by this, with Godmother's wide eyes and mouth open. Then eight second silence, then cut to Fleabag just giggling.

    God it was so satisfying when fleabag pushed her, i with she woulda gotten to do more damage. I grew up with a melodramatic, attention-seeking, manipulative narc mother and the Godmother in Fleabag reminded me so much of the version my mom presents to others publicly: “I’m fabulous and at peace and perfect” but really you can see some dark shit coming through the cracks lol. damn I wish Fleabag would’ve really gotten to lay into her. Watching her go through her relationship with her Godmother was weirdly cathartic for me

    Oh my god she was soooo awful in this show lmao. I got genuinely mad at some of the stuff she said the first time I watched it. Tremendous acting. When she tried to intrude on the girls and their dad trying to honor their dead mom 😭😭😭

  • @m-6820
    @m-6820 2 года назад +4

    She probably abuses their dad too. Before he marries her during that funeral scene he speaks full sentences to fleabag and even comforts her. After that, he can't even make out words during dinner.

    This is an unpopular opinion but I think the dad was being abused by this woman. She controlled everything about him and she cut off his relationships with his daughters. In the flashbacks he looks sooo much more alive, knows how to talk and was actually having good moments with fleabag until the stepmom came. Of course this doesn't excuse how he abandoned his daughters for her, but I think looking at it from this perspective does explain it more. We're not very empathetic with male victims of abuse
