So this is the new world; a world of mad science, Eco warriors beneath the waves and empiric wars. The three mast clippers are now too slow to get their precious cargo past the devastating submersibles of those that despise empires, whilst the horse and cart falls constant prey to the hungry lizards that slip through the streams. The tea must get through though, the world demands it.
Wenman Joseph Bassett Lowke is one of those concerned; a seasoned maker of steam boilers, industrial brewing equipment and proud owner of some of the finest aromatic tea plantations across the world. That precious crop had to be delivered; he needed a fast, reliable solution and when you know a thing or two about steam power you know just the mavericks for the job.
Foreman, Cornelius Chuddery, rounds up his team of skilled train jockeys - they have the nerve and they have the engines. With lucrative bounties on the line for getting the goods in first, the task of getting the tea across the new world is back on. The clippers had been good for their time but now the world needs trains and fast ones!
Boston Grey is the sort of man who knows how to inspire the lords and ladies; with a rakish smile and top hat to match, he and his bright young things would make a party of getting the tea through.Fuelled with lashing of aristocratic madness their tea party could win every race and have fun being bounders as they sabotage the efforts of their rivals.
They call themselves ‘The Hatters’. Rosie Rivette is a wartime factory foreman, stood proudly alongside her sisterhood; they are embracing change and are damsels in distress no more. By repurposing the great diesel machines they had silently built, run and maintained (as the men folk fought in the many wars) they will prove the not so fairer sex were the gals for the job. Emblazoning their engines with the art of empowered women they took to the rails as the ‘Diesel Dames’.
Adder Stone has a keen sense of adventure and he knows across the back yards of the empire the true heroes labour in their outbuildings.
The real inventors, with a make do and mend attitude, if anyone deserves the rich bounties for getting the tea through, it is the unsung back yard grafters. Salvaging all they can from wherever they can; they built engines from their hoards of scrap and stitched them together with blood and spit to became the ‘Coop Commandoes’.Build an imaginative world of innovative trains as they race the precious cargoes of Wenman Joseph Bassett-Lowke across a perilous SteamPunk landscape.

I love you Hornby and I think Lauie Calvert is extremely talented. But this range will not do well. Model trains are niche, steampunk is SUPER niche. I think you would have been better off paying out a little for some more licensing, like you've done previously with the Hogwarts Express and the Paddington set in the junior range which I will be buying for my son this Christmas.
Imagine being able to own a working 00 gauge model of the train from Back to the Future, or that train from Golden Eye, The Polar Express, the train from Toy Story or the version of the Orient Express from the recent film.
But best of luck, I hope I am proven wrong.

But I would love if Hornby did the Back to the Future train with the Delorean to and with Marty McFly
, Dr. Emmett Brown as Minifigures to. Be great if you can couple the train together with the Delorean. But I think Hornby could do more Christmas train in a Christmas paint job put them on the A4,4F, T9, Terrier, Class 08, 125HST, Class 156,66 with some different rolling stock too. But I would love to see a train from Golden Eye in a set with rolling stock too.
But I think they could do some more licensing trains.
Like Final Fantasy VIII:: Intercontinental Train
want would get gamer into this hobby too.
I know this going to sound like little children like but the My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic trains as the bronies have Bronycon still having it in 2021 want is said some think as the final episode back in 12 October 2019.
The rick and Morty train for 4x06 episode as Rick and Morty fans would pay it for sure.
Some Halloween train for the kids.

For real steam punk, you cannot beat 19th Century locos and rolling stock, with those outside frames, brass, guilding, whistles bells and gordy bright liveries.
I think the concept is great, but these rather globular, tubular locos with a rather plane grey finish don't really fit steam punk that well. I suppose purchasers could personalise and embelish them with added detail and new liveries with brass and gold. How about Bassett Lowke being the branding for 19th century locos? I hope the range does well though.

I respect hornby but these look pitiful. An example of steampunk would be the early steam powered brass model locomotives of the early 1900s. Bassett Lowke even produced one in the 60s. It's a shame to use the Bassett Lowke name for such a cheap line, as their used to represent the highest of quality. Hornby would most likely have gotten better results by making models of specific steampunk locomotives from media, such as the Aroura from the Metro series (a beautiful mallet locomotive which no doubt people would have loved to own). I hope this is a lesson that Hornby can learn from
