If you were me, would you buy the new 718 gts 4.0 or a second hand 991 911 carrera 4s? The prices are almost the same and I'm in a big trouble choosing either one of them.. 준형님, just genuinelycurious because i am actually trying to save up for a 997. For 997, where did you get the info about carrera s being more prone to ims failures? From my findings, i thought 3.6s were more like to have busted ims issues, and 3.8s are more likely to have worn out engine block lining. Anyways i was just really curious! Thanks!
You are EXACTLY correct about some of the 3.8's having the engine block lining issues and from it bore scoring due to the silicone particles and iron coated pistons having a mesh up... and then cylinders cracking etc... etc... BUT that's not only with the 3.8's... that's with the 3.4's and also the 3.6's and also in the Caymans, boxsters etc etc... BUT like the IMS issue it's not in all cars and also all those can be remedied just like the IMS kits you ca get new Block liners etc etc... And the info I usually get is not just thru articles because alot of times they are misconstrued due to politics etc... and forums aren't the most reliable either because alot of times they are just like you and I and are going thru trial and error phaes and what you might be reading can be the first few stages or "THEIR" trial and error stages... Sooo I usually and mainly get my info thru my mechanics whether it'd be thru a Porsche mechanic or a independent mechanic ... they are the very BEST source to get your info from because they actually work on these cars day in and day out.. Usually when I am getting my cars worked on, I will speak with the advisors and then develop a relationship with them and then within time when a trust is built up I will end up speaking to the actual mechanics workin on the cars... And if you develop a good enough relationship with them they have no need to be shady with you and will tell you like it is because first off just by talking to me they know that I know my cars :) Nonetheless my brother~ No used car will be "ISSUELESS" as you and I both know and from those issues we learn more about the cars and you develop a love and hate relationship but we learn and gain alot from it~ So yeah,,, as you know us car guys,,, the search is half the fun and then the other half is figuring out all the problems and trying to make it perfect lol! When you're searching for your car,,, just try and get a 2007and above... And make sure the car is not abused... and try and get a car that has been loved and driven but driven nicely and well maintained... If you are going to DRIVE the car I would much rather get a car with about 35k-50k miles that has had all the maintenances done and all recalls performed and a car that was loved by a an enthusiast, rather than a car that has no miles and just sat there for 10 years... UNLESS you are going to get one for investment to to keep as a time capsule car, then a low low mile car will be better~ So anywaaays sorry for the looong rant but, man when it comes to cars I can talk for days... just dont wanna put anyone to sleep lol! There is no difference between a 911 Carrera and a 911 because a 911 is a 911 Carrera... 911 "CARRERA" is the name they gave to the base model of the Porsche 911 line up~ Later they came up with other model names like the Carrera S, Carrera 4, Carrera T, Carrera 4s, Carrera RS, etc etc...The name "Carrera" is actually a Latin/Spanish derivitive which means "run, Race, career Race etc etc... and was just a name they used from the "CARRERA Panamericana races that they held in Mexico in the 50's and the name Carrera was actually given to a engine in which was used in the older Porsche 356 models before the 911 and then later once the 911 came out they used the name CARRERA for the 911 thus calling it the 911 Carrera~ So sorry for the LOOONG answer... hehe!
hmmm.. welll... Although Boxsters are VERY NICE cars and HANDLE like KINGS... Boxsters do not have the long racing heritage as the 911's do so they don't have a collectibility value YET... BUT and this is a BIG BUT... they may go up in value later especially the 1st GENERATION MK1 1996 BOXSTERS ... they were the first of their kind and were a BIG issue when they first came out! Even moreso than the 996 911 back in the days! People were more dissappointed in the 996 911 when it first came out because of the design and also the same headlights as the boxster when the boxster was a cheaper car... BUT the Boxster when it first came it they were ALL praising it because it was sooo different from any other Porsche and was pretty close to the concept design and it was a affordable Porsche! So alot pf people bought the boxster instead of the 996! Also because of the 2016 gt4 and spyder maybe like 10-15 years from now the boxsters may slowly start goin up value...

997 GTS is a AWEOME and pretty rare car to come by especially a MANUAL one~ I actually had a 997 GTS with Factory AEROKIT and was a AWESOME car but it was a PDK... sooo ehhh I ended up getting rid of it~
That is called bore scoring due to the silicone block liners getting particled and the iron coated pistons meshing into them etc... BUT thats with not only the 996 but the 3.4, 3.6. and 3.8 motors... that is something that can be fixed/remedied with new liners etc.. BUT yes 996 and 997 911's caymans, boxsters.. etc etc.. had those issues BUT NOT ALL... just like the IMS issue... basically... ALL used cars will have some issues, you just need to be READY and take time and choose the right car~ BBBAAAMMM!!!

중학교시절 996을 보고 폴쉐빠돌이가 되어버리고.. 전통적 골수팬들에겐 미운오리라지만 그당시 나에겐 최신형 슈퍼카였음 물론 지금까지도. 중고라도 꼭 소유하고픈 맘은 어릴때부터 쭉 갖고있지만 현실적으로는 쉽지않네요 물론 페라리 람보르기니 멋있지만, 포르쉐만이 주는 특별한 느낌과 감성은 인생 드림카 그 자체임.

Hi 준형 actually the first time commenting on your vids Whats your opinion about the limited editions of 997 and 991, like the Carrera R, Speedster, GT2 RS and so on? I know the Carrera R's were super expensive with the power and the manual transmission and the retro look. Would these go up in value as well? My favorite was the Carrera R, loved the retro look. Hmmm... Actually the older Cayennes tend to be somewhat problematic with the Engines wearing out prematurely and also sometimes seizing...also coolant pipes leak alot due to the attachments(bad choice of adhesive) they used in the earlier years and then leaks onto the engine blocks etc etc... and also transmission problems...... fuel pumps and water pumps go out... AIGOO... I am sorry... maybe not ALL have problems but people that I know who had the earlier Cayennes had alot of problems... Sorry...
Bro, I have always overlooked 996s because of the IMS issue but because of your video, I will open up and start searching for a Carrera 4s. I really don't want to buy any more ICE cars but if I do, it will be a 911, regardless of year.(still no cabriolets😅)
Yup~ I mean getting a "USED" car of any make especially a car that will be over 10 years old will come with some issuess, whether it be minor or major, it comes with the territory in used cars and as long as the purchaser knows that they are NOT getting a brand new car then nobody will be in for a surprise~ And if you are one of the lucky ones, you may end up with a CHERRY one with no probs... that will usually be a car that has been well maintained and "DRIVEN" and not parked for yeeeears~ I mean it doesnt have to have a gazillion miles BUT I am talking about a car that has been loved and driven periodically~ If that is the case You may not even have to get the IMS isssue taken care of~ And actually some have already been remedied by the previous owners because of the fear of this issue~ BUT literally, I don't know ANY one who has run into the issue and my friend in the States has a 2001 996 with 129k miles... yeah seriously and he hasn't ever had the issue~ But it's always better to be safe than sorry so, if I were to get one, I would think on spending another 3 to 5k in makin the car solid... So if you find a well sorted out Carrera 4s with decent miles and for a good price and fits your bill, don't be afraid~ You're a car guy... we love to make problems in our heads and solve them... LOL! The search is half the fun and the other half is lookin for problems and remedying them! LOL!!! And Yeah I guess the trend / reality of the years to come are gonna be all electric cars meaning "ICE" internal Combustion Engines will be out... BUT no electric car will ever replace that throttle response and growl of that good ole flat 6 motor! And yeah stay away from convertibles lol! Good Luck in your search!~
쭌형! Like I said in the earlier video of ur car history, I'm still sticking with the plan for a C7 corvette next year. One thing that bothers me is that I am not planning to go with the 7spd, so if I'm gonna go auto, I know it will give me regrets with missing out the PDK box LOL I already have a saab with 5spd that I'm planning to keep and sell in the future if I need money, it is like a safety investment for me since I know Saab's will only get more expensive especially 04-05 aeros like mine with the limited run front Aero bumpers! I wanna go with either with a C7 Z51 2/3LT 8spd auto or 997.2 C2S/C4. It's exciting to think about, but it's also the first big investment in my life although it is less than half of yours hahaha Thank you Hyoung!

GREAT CARS!!! HIGH REV V-Tec Engine! Also not too expensive and VERY FUN cars!!! AP1 is a stiffer tighter ride with a Higher redline... 9000 RPMS!!! And AP2 Drives more civilized and better for smoother high speed cruising because of the taller 6th gear ratio! BOTH AWESOME CARS!!! And NO PROBLEMS!!!

I agree because they made sooo many of them BUT this episode was for still AFFORDABLE Cheaper Porsche 911's~ Meaning people can still afford these and they will NEVER go down in value...especially the 996 and 997's and even if they just maintain the purchase price now,,, then its a winner! The 964, 930, 993 are waaaay too expensive now and the 991 is still expensive and will depreciate alot more in the future before going back up in price...
Yup... BUT thats the same price for ALL 911's when it comes to engine work.... BUT at least these 996's are still the cheapest affordable 911's you can buy... All import Sports cars are expensive to work on due to import parts etc...
The older Targa cars are always lesser in value because the chassis is not has stiff/solid as the Coupe hard tops...Also design wise the fluid side profile line of the 911 is somewhat chopped up due to the Targa design... Basically the older Targas are built on the cabriolet/covertible 911 platforms... and convertible 911's are always lesser in value compared to the Coupe variants.. The New 991 and 992 Targas are nice BUT are HEAVY and STILL VERY EXPENSIVE... Also the 993 and The 996 Targa were both a pretty nice design on how the targa top functioned BUT the 993 Targa is REALLY EXPENSIVE now~ The 996 Targa is still affordable in price but is pretty rare to find~ The 997 Targa 4 and 4s are cheaper than the regular carrera 4 and 4s BUT are getting harder to find... But the answer to your question... Targa values in the past have ALWAYS been less than the COUPES~

포르쉐는 911과 911카레라는 모델이 다른거라고 봐야하나요? 아니면 트림이 다른건가요? 포르쉐는 숫자로도 모델을 나누고 모델명으로도 부르고 그러니깐 잘 모르겠네요ㅠ
There is no difference between a 911 Carrera and a 911 because a 911 is a 911 Carrera... 911 "CARRERA" is the name they gave to the base model of the Porsche 911 line up~ Later they came up with other model names like the Carrera S, Carrera 4, Carrera T, Carrera 4s, Carrera RS, etc etc...The name "Carrera" is actually a Latin/Spanish derivitive which means "run, Race, career Race etc etc... and was just a name they used from the "CARRERA Panamericana races that they held in Mexico in the 50's and the name Carrera was actually given to a engine in which was used in the older Porsche 356 models before the 911 and then later once the 911 came out they used the name CARRERA for the 911 thus calling it the 911 Carrera~ So sorry for the LOOONG answer... hehe!

911은 저에게 너무 높은레벨이라 987mk1을 목표로 하고 있는데 박스터는 소장가치가 쬐끔 별룬가요...?
hmmm.. welll... Although Boxsters are VERY NICE cars and HANDLE like KINGS... Boxsters do not have the long racing heritage as the 911's do so they don't have a collectibility value YET... BUT and this is a BIG BUT... they may go up in value later especially the 1st GENERATION MK1 1996 BOXSTERS ... they were the first of their kind and were a BIG issue when they first came out! Even moreso than the 996 911 back in the days! People were more dissappointed in the 996 911 when it first came out because of the design and also the same headlights as the boxster when the boxster was a cheaper car... BUT the Boxster when it first came it they were ALL praising it because it was sooo different from any other Porsche and was pretty close to the concept design and it was a affordable Porsche! So alot pf people bought the boxster instead of the 996! Also because of the 2016 gt4 and spyder maybe like 10-15 years from now the boxsters may slowly start goin up value...

Yes! The bore scoring from the silicone block liner particles and iron coated pistons meshing against each other BUT that is with not only the 911 but all Porsches with the 3.4, 3.6 and 3.8 motors from the 996 to 997 the cayman and boxter etc... it is also a issue that can be remedied and fixed with new liners etc,,, like the IMS issue ~ But the IMS issue is a pretty big one... BBBAAAMMM!!!

997 GTS is a AWEOME and pretty rare car to come by especially a MANUAL one~ I actually had a 997 GTS with Factory AEROKIT and was a AWESOME car but it was a PDK... sooo ehhh I ended up getting rid of it~
996은 또 실린더 스크래치 문제도 있지 않았나요? 외국에서 흔히 bore scoring이라고 불리는거요.
That is called bore scoring due to the silicone block liners getting particled and the iron coated pistons meshing into them etc... BUT thats with not only the 996 but the 3.4, 3.6. and 3.8 motors... that is something that can be fixed/remedied with new liners etc.. BUT yes 996 and 997 911's caymans, boxsters.. etc etc.. had those issues BUT NOT ALL... just like the IMS issue... basically... ALL used cars will have some issues, you just need to be READY and take time and choose the right car~ BBBAAAMMM!!!

Whats your opinion about the limited editions of 997 and 991, like the Carrera R, Speedster, GT2 RS and so on? I know the Carrera R's were super expensive with the power and the manual transmission and the retro look. Would these go up in value as well? My favorite was the Carrera R, loved the retro look. Hmmm... Actually the older Cayennes tend to be somewhat problematic with the Engines wearing out prematurely and also sometimes seizing...also coolant pipes leak alot due to the attachments(bad choice of adhesive) they used in the earlier years and then leaks onto the engine blocks etc etc... and also transmission problems...... fuel pumps and water pumps go out... AIGOO... I am sorry... maybe not ALL have problems but people that I know who had the earlier Cayennes had alot of problems... Sorry...

Bro, I have always overlooked 996s because of the IMS issue but because of your video, I will open up and start searching for a Carrera 4s. I really don't want to buy any more ICE cars but if I do, it will be a 911, regardless of year.(still no cabriolets😅)
Yup~ I mean getting a "USED" car of any make especially a car that will be over 10 years old will come with some issuess, whether it be minor or major, it comes with the territory in used cars and as long as the purchaser knows that they are NOT getting a brand new car then nobody will be in for a surprise~ And if you are one of the lucky ones, you may end up with a CHERRY one with no probs... that will usually be a car that has been well maintained and "DRIVEN" and not parked for yeeeears~ I mean it doesnt have to have a gazillion miles BUT I am talking about a car that has been loved and driven periodically~ If that is the case You may not even have to get the IMS isssue taken care of~ And actually some have already been remedied by the previous owners because of the fear of this issue~ BUT literally, I don't know ANY one who has run into the issue and my friend in the States has a 2001 996 with 129k miles... yeah seriously and he hasn't ever had the issue~ But it's always better to be safe than sorry so, if I were to get one, I would think on spending another 3 to 5k in makin the car solid... So if you find a well sorted out Carrera 4s with decent miles and for a good price and fits your bill, don't be afraid~ You're a car guy... we love to make problems in our heads and solve them... LOL! The search is half the fun and the other half is lookin for problems and remedying them! LOL!!! And Yeah I guess the trend / reality of the years to come are gonna be all electric cars meaning "ICE" internal Combustion Engines will be out... BUT no electric car will ever replace that throttle response and growl of that good ole flat 6 motor! And yeah stay away from convertibles lol! Good Luck in your search!~

97-99년 은 IMS가 Dual row bearing으로 되어 있어서 상대적으로 Failure rate이 많이 낮답니다. 참고햐시고 구매 하시면 되겠네요. 전 98년 박스터 오너엿어요

미국 수입 차량은 997.1 2005년식만 IMS에 문제가 있습니다 2006년식 997.1 부터는 문제가 없는걸로 알고있습니다 그리고 mezger 엔진이 들어간 2009년식 997.1TT 수동이 value는 제일 좋죠.

저도 996이 사고싶네요 형님말대로 어린시절에 포르쉐에 관심가졌던게 996끝물때였어요. 못생겼다는 사람들 맘도 이해가지만 그러기에 더 특별해보이고 희소성도 생기겠죠

One thing that bothers me is that I am not planning to go with the 7spd, so if I'm gonna go auto, I know it will give me regrets with missing out the PDK box LOL
I already have a saab with 5spd that I'm planning to keep and sell in the future if I need money, it is like a safety investment for me since I know Saab's will only get more expensive especially 04-05 aeros like mine with the limited run front Aero bumpers!
I wanna go with either with a C7 Z51 2/3LT 8spd auto or 997.2 C2S/C4. It's exciting to think about, but it's also the first big investment in my life although it is less than half of yours hahaha Thank you Hyoung!

대학교 2학년 때, Craigslist에 올라왔던 944를 시승했던 게 내 유일한 Porsche 운전 경험이었거든요... 그 차가 너무 맘에 들었는데, maintenance가 부담이라 결국 못 사고 그냥 1500불 주고 대충 Corolla 샀던 슬픈 기억이 있어요 ㅎㅎㅎㅎㅎ

GREAT CARS!!! HIGH REV V-Tec Engine! Also not too expensive and VERY FUN cars!!! AP1 is a stiffer tighter ride with a Higher redline... 9000 RPMS!!! And AP2 Drives more civilized and better for smoother high speed cruising because of the taller 6th gear ratio! BOTH AWESOME CARS!!! And NO PROBLEMS!!!

Yes... I agree because they made sooo many of them BUT this episode was for still AFFORDABLE Cheaper Porsche 911's~ Meaning people can still afford these and they will NEVER go down in value...especially the 996 and 997's and even if they just maintain the purchase price now,,, then its a winner! The 964, 930, 993 are waaaay too expensive now and the 991 is still expensive and will depreciate alot more in the future before going back up in price...

Yup... BUT thats the same price for ALL 911's when it comes to engine work.... BUT at least these 996's are still the cheapest affordable 911's you can buy... All import Sports cars are expensive to work on due to import parts etc...

타르가는 가치가 어떤가요.????
The older Targa cars are always lesser in value because the chassis is not has stiff/solid as the Coupe hard tops...Also design wise the fluid side profile line of the 911 is somewhat chopped up due to the Targa design... Basically the older Targas are built on the cabriolet/covertible 911 platforms... and convertible 911's are always lesser in value compared to the Coupe variants.. The New 991 and 992 Targas are nice BUT are HEAVY and STILL VERY EXPENSIVE... Also the 993 and The 996 Targa were both a pretty nice design on how the targa top functioned BUT the 993 Targa is REALLY EXPENSIVE now~ The 996 Targa is still affordable in price but is pretty rare to find~ The 997 Targa 4 and 4s are cheaper than the regular carrera 4 and 4s BUT are getting harder to find... But the answer to your question... Targa values in the past have ALWAYS been less than the COUPES~
