I went to India for 6 months in 1996 and took only one music cassette with me: Pancha Nadai Pallavi. I have absorbed this record to my very soul over many years. I took the master back to his motherland. Turns out that I left it there somehow! No matter, cd's, mp3's, still available forever 💙 ♥ Unquestionably, one of the most outstanding musicians to ever grace this earth 🌎 All gratitude 🙏 Shankarji
Does everyone know that Shankarji is playing a violin 🎻 that he had custom made in the 80's, constructed with 2 necks, each with 5 strings rather than the usual 4. He later made another one with a different design I just saw on this video. So he is playing on 10 strings! Bass, cello, viola, and violin. Incredible. He also has a brother virtuoso violinist as well named L. Subramaniam. (for those who don't know!)
Maybe cause his work with Shakti, but his playing is always so refreshing, choice of notes and feel is always so deep, much more better and more interesting than other violin players. Genius at work, simple as that.
Dr L Shankar's Raga Kaapi is so majestic. Genius at work. Spellbound at the low pitch sounds in tanam and high pitch during swaram exchanges. Hats off. Greatest violinist to have graced this earth.
Raga savitri played twice - with anya swara ( after kapi) & in original form in the last... both are examples of his mastery.. Artist par excellence...🙏🙏! Pl stop writing roumers about personal life if you are true lover of music..
Beloved Shankar, a world treasure like no other. I have been blessed to see Shankar with Zakir Hussain three times. In Marin County at an outdoor Amphitheater, Hearst Hall in S.F., and the intimate Julia Morgan Theater in Berkeley CA. Always transcendent and transformative. They are both such masters, as you know. All gratitude 🙏 for this divine recording. Yes, he has indeed returned to bless us again.
A very talented person is Sri L Shankar. Surprising he does not play much for his fans all these years. His Savithri and Hemavathi in 1980 still ring in my ears. What a master he is. So unfortunate he doesn't give any big concerts.
Is this really 2020?...So beautiful to hear him play as his old self again, L.Shankar....I was wondering if I would ever hear this side of him again. The pop persona of L.Shenker seemed to have taken over for many years.

Hello,,i haven,t even listened yet! but i noticed the comment below says this is Raga Savitri, but below that Raga Kaapi,,,which is it ? or are they related?,,i know Ragam Savitri from Whos to Know, but this Raga Kaapi is new to me!,,,thank you....
Marrying your brothers daughter.....isn't that "weird" ?.....we all know the super rich in India marry into their own extended family circles to " keep the money" in that circle.I've seen some "weird" looking kids as a result! "Gingger" is L.Subramaniam's eldest daughter whom he apparently ex-communicated from the family for fooling around with a Mexican kid while living in LA. L. Shankar took her under his wing , recorded and toured together for several years. He bestowed a 10-string double violin on her also. The relationship between the two brothers is also very estranged. As far as I know they have never played together in public except when they were kids.
@@songsabai3794 Thanks, that makes sense why "Gingger" would have "Shankar" as her last name. I came to know that Shankar himself had drug related problems for some time and never gave many concerts for some time. Anyway, all these "by the side" incidents are part of everyone's life. Music is above all, so great, divine and bliss.
Artiste beyond imagination, so creative, so soothing and yet commanding. Long live Shankarji.

He played with Korn the Rock band and you can hear his work on the Queen of the Dammed soundtrack.
His music seems sad, romantic, and war like all at the same time.
Deep devotion and aspiration can be heard as those things. But ultimately it is about transcendence.
So beautiful that nothing negative can defect you from thinking only Positive .....

Did Shankar move back to India like his brother L. Subramaniam? Also is Subramaniam's daughter Gingger (weird name!) married to Shankar?
