  • Hi everyone, today I'm sharing with you my afternoon at the Hideout Cafe in New Westminster. This time, I sketched their outdoor sitting area with a group of people sitting under an umbrella surrounded by lush green foliage. Please watch the video until the end for my full process composing this sketchbook page using pen and watercolors.
    🎨 Materials I used:
    - Sailor's fude fountain pen (Bamboo Green)
    - Noodler's Brown 41 Ink (to fill the fountain pen)
    - Mungyo watercolors
    - Etchr Mix-Media A4 size Landscape Sketchbook
    - Holbein Water Brush (large tip)
    - Holbein water brush (medium tip)

So peaceful and enjoyable. I really appreciate your narrations which gives us insights and analysis of watercolor mixing and graduation. Your sketching is another skill which uses simple shapes to capture complex subjects. Thank you for sharing your skills and your time.

This is really lovely Becky. Because you use a limited palette the paintings in your sketchbooks are all in harmony.

    Amazing sketch Becky!
I’m having some problems when painting with my water brush. As soon as I press it to get some water out, it sucks it back up while I’m painting with it. I therefore have to always have a pressure on it so it doesn’t ruin my water control while painting. Does this happen to you as well? Is it something I just have to get used to or is maybe my waterbrush broken and I should get a new one?
    Thanks!

Thank you! A normal water brush should not suck back water, I've never had this issue with my Holbein water brushes. I think you should get an authentic brand water brush like Sakura, Pentel, Derwent, or Holbein.
