@@BadnikMechanic I'll actually take it a step further, and say that the SA2 treasure hunting is better than SA1's. The three radars going off at once is, more often than not, a noisy, confusing mess, that makes it hard to focus on what you're actually doing. SA2's radar is not only more focused, but you can grab your targets out of order, if you just happen across them. SA1's hints take way too long, and only point you in a direction (the same thing your radar is already doing) and, more often than not, just fly off-screen. SA2's hints, on the other hand, actually reward you for learning the levels layout. Y'know, like a Sonic game.
And I will also die on that hill and say that the radar was likely changed to account for the Ranking system, since it would've been far too easy to get A ranks if it was like SA1's. I mean Knuckles and Rouge controlled so much better in SA2 that it never bothered me. Plus the stages in SA1 feel like an after thought with how easy they are, that I almost feel insulted.
same with the SA1 video. for an individual who's entire existence is revolved around SA1 and 2. this was amazing to be able to watch and absolutely love this content.
Many of my fond memories of SA2B (yes, I grew up with that version too and I love it) are in the Chao Garden. My brother and I would spend hours playing in it as it let our imagination flourish. For kids, that is necessary for their growth and in this day and age where we leave little room for that is next to impossible. We read a lot about raising Chao online back in the early 2000s; reading how to get Chaos Chao, the effects animals had, fan comics, ect. It was a time to be alive! It makes me happy that we're getting Chao plushes and figures that I can afford. Whether or not you like the Chao, you can't deny its impact on the fandom. Also, I love the Treasure Hunting stages here more than in the first game as it plays better. Sure, the inability to sense the others ahead of time is a downgrade, but the way it plays is so much better imo. Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, much like Super Mario Sunshine, holds many fond childhood memories.
@right_in_the_tockles Out of curiosity, I just opened my script for this video and Ctrl + F "Feels" to see how often I use that word. 4 times, 3 of which are used in a section where I'm clearly giving a 'personal reflection' about the gameplay. Which comes over 30min into the video... You tried.

I thought you were gonna talk about Shiro Maekawa, the writer of Sonic Adventure 2. The guy would hit himself in the head before writing, make voices to figure out how Shadow would sound like, and taught himself to write scripts and storyboard just for this game. Good video overall, but I was hoping to learn more about Maekawa.

Eggman’s line about his grandfather almost makes me tear up when I hear it. The music, his delivery of the line. It is such an emotional moment of reflection. The only thing that sours it is Tails’ happy-go-lucky response.
Sonic Adventure 2 is definitely the Best Sonic game Ever. The gameplay is so fun, the Story is so captivating, the Music and Level themes are just too good. I actually went to San Francisco last summer with my family. I saw the Real Mission Street and Radical Highway. It was truly amazing seeing the Sea surrounding it, the Clouds looming over the city, the Hills, it was even more beautiful than in the game. Well, if you ignore all the trash and Homeless people on the streets…
@ShadowNicoStar Possibly. I have the game but not played it outside of the EGX demo. Next 2 video projects are already locked in outside of the one I'm finishing up. One of them is non Sonic... because I'd buy that for a dollar!
Playing Adventure 2 before the original, for me all the " adventure Radar" discussion was pratically non existent, i simply enjoyed playing in that manner also finding emerald pieces before the radar signals. In very ways it was an outdated version in relation to the original one and it's great they modded it with steam version, but i think all this discussion is too much underlined when many fans that played adventure 2 standalone or before the first one never noticed that as an issue
I really enjoyed this video watch it all the way the highlight of this video was the fact Sonic Adventure 2 had two versions the arcade & the slot machine that really caught me off guard because I been knowing & playing Sa2 for years it's so satisfying learning more detail of a game of a franchise making me love Sa2 even more looking forward of you're Sonic Adventure 2 over the looking Glass Video

Sonic 06 IS Sonic Adventure 3. People just don't want to hear it because it's bad The only difference between Sonic's gameplay in 06 vs in SA1/SA2 is that 06 is bad and completely lacks momentum but outside of that, everything about it is very Adventure-like, while taking certain elements from Sonic Heroes and Shadow's story being sort of a mix between the Adventure games and the Shadow the Hedgehog game
While I completely understand the frustration of many with the treasure hunting, I attempt to put myself in the shoes of 13 yr old me. The GC Battle port was my first experience with true 3D Sonic (didn't get to play SA1 and R doesn't technically count here) and while I initially thought Knuckles would've been similar to Sonic (like S3+K), I quickly learned to love the immersion of exploration. The radar system, while a bit frustrating sure, wasn't nearly as much of a headache for me as many have in retrospect. I love just vibing out while exploring the entire level. The music def helped with my experience, and I'm still very fond of it as a big fan of acid jazz and atmospheric hip hop. As I grew older and heard more of the criticism geared towards this segment (and game in general) it really soured my experience, but by influence, not necessarily experience. It became "expected" to hate on the game. Nowadays, I'm peeling away the noise of everything that's come after and trying to recall the first experience, and enjoying the game for what it was and still is. This game holds a special place in my heart and even with its flaws, it will always be one of my favorites in the franchise.
Now I know this isn’t really the video to ask this question, but your Sonic Statue video appears to be either private or deleted, and I was wanting to ask for why this is the case. I recently heard about some copyright and insurance issue was going on, and led me to believe the video was taken down due to these reasons. So if you could possibly clarify this, that would be awesome. Oh, and hopefully you have a great rest of the day for whenever you read this very comment.
(Replying here) I was asking what's your top three games in each category (2D and hybrid/3D)? So Sonic CD and Adventure 1 can be one of the three for each, but two others as well.
Personally for me I will always prefer SA1 over SA2 in both feel and level design. Despite some of the improvements SA2 has I find SA1 far more fun to go back and play. There are also some downsides like me preferring the SA1 spin dash and me not liking the way knuckles and rouge’s stages due to the change in the radar. Now other smaller things might be due to nostalgia or I find it better overall, I find SA2 to be the lesser game. Still both are great games in their own right. Yes I do agree that Sonic 06 is Sonic Adventure 3. It uses the adventure formula along side multiple playable characters with the story changing, depending on which route you go. The main issue is that Sonic 06 is unfinished so I wonder what Sonic would of been like if the game had not segmented its team to work on Secret Rings and/or had the proper time it needed to get finished and had been delayed to fix its underlying controls and physics to be more like SA1 or SA2
I don’t hate the one emerald radar. It is less convenient, but I still found the levels fun enough to not care. For most levels. Some levels still don’t work with it like Meteor Heard and Mad Space. No, I didn’t hate security hall or whatever Rouge’s level is called. I actually liked it just fine and found it pretty fun, I got an A tank on my first try on that and another indoor level. Now that I say that, that doesn’t mean I’m against the multiple emeralds being detected, especially when the levels are so large.

Yeah I will stand halfway on that hill for the treasure hunting. They aren't perfect but even to this day after playing SA2 as a kid, I still like the stages. Even the whole "Mad Space is the worst because of the hints" complaint makes me wanna say "git gud" because as a kid I did that. I won't deny that they should have made the stages allow you to find any item no matter which one you were collecting. Also the treasure hunting stages had the best music out of the whole game. That is a possibility, potentially you could utterly cheese some of the stages. You'd still have to spend time navigating and changing the stage configuration, then change it back for the 3rd one.
@@BadnikMechanic I guess ye but I think ST either didn't realize or were ok wit that. Knuckles/Rouge R the ONLY ones who's rank is highly dependent on time rather than Rank like speed or mech. I think the timers R individual meanin that the game ranks each item u get individually & puts them together for a total. goin for ANY other when that timer isn't on breaks it entirely cus the other timers aren't on yet
Honestly I played the SA2B first but I got me a Sega Dreamcast and not to long after costing me a little bit for the Dreamcast SA2 and I just stopped playing the Gamecube version because the Dreamcast SA2 was far more superior and it's my favorite Sonic game but I would recommend the Dreamcast version even if it cost a arm and a leg depending on the timing you find a good deal but I want the original multi dimensional soundtrack so bad
