I'm careful when labeling someone a narcissist because it seems like that's the go-to title for people. That behavior has to be diagnosed by a therapist. BUT, there are people who just suck and have behavioral and emotional immaturity issues. Those who do the work and are mindful of their behaviors, Bravo to you. Do you think someone who walks up to an animal or a stranger and slices their throat in front of witnesses needs to be diagnosed by a therapist in order to believe that they are in fact a sociopath or narcissist? Behavior is absolutely the identifying factor and you certainly don’t need someone else to confirm or deny with a degree on paper to tell you that. Many in that profession are disordered themselves. Trust your gut that’s all anyone needs to do. It will always tell the truth as to who one is.

To piggyback off what you said, people are so brainwashed by “degrees” and “professions” in front of people’s names think that one as an individual has no room to diagnose people for what they are. They completely ignore common sense of self and their surroundings… I don’t think you need a licensed professional to tell you someone that is never telling the truth about something is a liar. I don’t think you need permission from anyone to tell you how to diagnose someone with your own senses.
Hell some of these therapist and doctors THEMSELVES have never encountered a narcissist and the therapist that have I have heard stories of a therapist being manipulated by a narcissist because they never encountered one. Whom is to say the therapist isn’t a narcissist themselves?
People need to be more aware and confident in diagnosing their own thoughts about somebody and how to properly deal with them if facing them.
Another one to make you think about what you said OP is I don’t think a therapist or doctor should tell you that you are in severe danger if somebody is coming towards you with a weapon ready to cause you bodily harm.
It’s a personality type, it is equivalent to saying someone is extroverted or introverted, funny, angry, etc…
