Merci beaucoup Sarah!
Many thanks Brad, I think it is the 1st piece that I learned from the French Baroque repertoire. It is pretty easy to play but this Pascacaille stays with you after. Have a nice week-end!
Antoine this is such a beautiful, soulful interpretation! I felt so inspired by you and other lute youtubers I took the plunge and getting a 13-c baroque lute. Where can I find the repertoire by Gaulthier et al for this instrument? What sources are you using?
Hello Helen! Hope you are doing well and sorry for taking so long to answer; I was away from social media for a while... If you're still into Baroque Lute Repertoire, I highly suggest getting the Baroque Lute Method from Miguel Serdoura (also named Miguel Ysrael). The third part of the book contains many gems from French Baroque Lute (and a bit of German too if your into Weiss), all ordered by key and difficulty level. First part and second part are more dedicated to the historical context, some basic theory and technical aspect to learn the instrument; overall it is a great book and the best method that I've found. Then, for more repertoire, you can find online Manuscript Vaudry de Saizenay, The Charles Mouton Manuscripts (contains also many technical advice at the beginning), etc. Hope that helps! Cheers Helen :)
Hi Leonard! Yes, this one is in the Milleran Manuscript page 67-68, although I think I discovered this one in Miguel Serdoura Method for Baroque Lute; great book if you do not have it already. Have a nice week-end,
Bonjour Karine!
Gaultier le Vieux is on record as not being particularly interested in melody, in fact he seems to have disdained it. So far as he was concerned, melody was for other instruments (like the violin) not for the lute. For my part I find his non-melodic approach to composition fascinating, one of the most interesting and original aspects of his work. If you want melody ("cantabile"), listen to the 18th century German lutenists.
@@bradwalton3977 Totally agree! If someone wants Cantabile on the lute, it is better to listen to Weiss, more specifically Allemande from his late sonatas. Cheers,
Merveilleux ! Compliments !🍀🎼🎵🎶

Je me transporte au 17ème siècle et je m’imprègne d’un moment sonore de cette époque! C’est vraiment génial! Merci! ✨

@@baroquelute ah je suis rassurée! Profites bien de tes enfants! A bientôt.. bon limage! Lol
My general impression is that the Gaultier repertoire always seems starved for interesting melody.
Question of point of view, in my opinion he is probably the most interesting lutenist of the French Baroque school. Have a nice day,
