I have a Tikka T3X Hunter chambered in 7mm-08 . It doesn’t need anything, just fine right out of the box and the finish on the wood stock is exquisitely fine. Absolutely love it 😍
I just won the bid on an identical rifle/cartridge! Well, mine's left hand. Too bad Tikka doesn't make their stainless 708 in left hand. I am replacing the recoil pad but only because I bought a bunch when they were marked down to $32.
What's the pull weight with that spring and where did you get the spring please? I stay away from rifles that I cannot reduce the trigger pull weight to 1.5 pounds or less. I've considered Browning but the factory trigger has impeded my desire to make a purchase.
@@Accuracy1stIt was an MCARBO spring. They advertise it would take it down to two and a half pounds. I've never measured mine but I think that is accurate.
Just got my Tikka T3x SS Superlite in 7mm-08 yesterday. Added Limbsaver, Talley Rings, Sightron scope, Beartooth stockguard w/ shell holder, and a basic nylon sling. And done! The recoil lug is supposed to be a upgrade to the t3 aluminum one but I hear its still a softer metal. Figure it will be ok for a light round like 7mm-08. I put a titanium recoil lug in my t3 270 WSM after seeing the aluminum one start to get deformed. I wanted a cartridge that is less likely to grenade at close range and a little smaller formfactor with less recoil is a plus as well. Haven't decided if I like the t3 stock or t3x stock better yet.
Bottom metal: I chose to stick with factory. I've talked to a few people who advocate the upgrade to metal with some compelling arguments but they were talking about hunting in EXTREME cold and the factory polymer mags can crack if you drop them, etc. This really doesn't apply to me and I prefer the factory light weight polymer. I bought a ton of new extra mags for $20 each and don't hunt annually in northern Canada or Alaska so I have no need to upgrade the bottom/mag kit. If I do take Tikka rifles far north when it's that cold, I'll just take 2 extra mags. I'd rather put that extra $150+ towards primers, bullets, powder but that's me. You can always upgrade later. I recommend you spend a couple seasons with it as is and make a decision. By the way, when you take your stock off and then reassemble the rifle, place your action screws close to all the way down, then give your rifle a good hit on the floor at the buttstock to settle the action against the recoil lug before tightening the screws the rest of the way.
@@hopefulballistics I guess I should mention also that another reason I didn't upgrade the bottom/mag kit is, in part, due to the ridiculous number of Tikka rifles I have purchased since 2022. Many moments of insanity with the credit card. So, if I only hand 1 or 2 Tikkas, I'd be more inclined to upgrade those parts. But then that would trigger me to upgrade the stock, and so the domino effect begins.

Other than the buttpad, the only thing I would change: I would paint the stock or have it done by a professional. Krylon is cheap.
Well said. Only mods I've done are trigger spring, recoil pad but I did paint 4 of the black polymer stocks and they turned out fantastic. 4 camo colors and 1 flat clear coat. Saturate with Acetone first, then slightly scuff with sandpaper, primer, paint, clear coat.
Not for recoil specifically but for a better fit in some length of pull and overall comfort I changed the recoil pad for a limbsaver, the grip angle to the more vertical style. That’s it that’s all
Spring is a cheap and easy fix to what is a fairly heavy trigger otherwise. I’d be seeing how it shoots before messing with too much IMO. Nice gun in a great caliber. Keen to hear how it shoots for you.
I have a T3x lite in 300 win mag. It’s bone stock, well it has a bipod, sling, buttstock ammo pouch. I was able to just turn the screw and got my trigger to 2lb. My other tikkas (roughtech 6.5 creed and T3x lite 30-06) were able to adjust down to 2lb as well. Idk why yours won’t get to 2lb. I’m debating getting a better recoil pad but it ain’t that bad until after a box of ammo. (F.P Berger hunter hybrid 185). I myself thinking about upgrading the rifle but unsure yet. So perfect the way it is
Yes! Don't forget to do your rebate. They need a copy of your receipt, type in the T3 option, type in your serial number, and you also have to upload a pic of your rifle showing the serial number. I've sent in 8 since they started the rebate. It ends Nov 30 I think. But here's the catch, if you get an email saying your s/n is not eligible, it's because Beretta/Tikka hasn't updated the third party with serial numbers yet. They will include their phone number. Just give them a call and they will correct it for you. So far, all 8 of mine were "ineligible" because Tikka is selling faster than they can update the rebate company
Just bought two Tikka T3x superlites 6.5cm and 300 WSM. Gonna shoot them factory and see how they do. Then start with minor upgrades. First factory built guns that i have purchased in 20yrs. I have always went with custom rifles. Last year i got to shoot a couple Tikka at a hunt i was on. I knew then i was gonna purchase a couple. IMHO probably one of the best off the shelf rifles you can get. America need a substitute when Remington went belly up. Tikka rifles quickly took the place and you are definitely getting a better product.
I have the hunter stock. It feels a lot better in the hands than the plastic one. No mods to the rifle at all. Even use the tikka rings that came with it. All the best from aus.
Right on🙌 look at all the customs being built in it! For good reason I have built I think at my last count 15-20 of them and the shoots about as good as you will ever need for hunting other then replacing the recoil pad
I plan on getting the exact same rifle in the same cartridge and bedding it into a Manners MCS-EH1-TK stock plus aluminum bottom metal. Yes it’s a big upgrade, but those stocks absolutely transform the rifle into something darn near as good as a custom. 7mm-08 is one of thee most versatile cartridges. Excellent choice.
If you don't plan on replacing the stock soon or at all, maybe a cheek riser to help cheek weld? Anyway, great looking rifle and excellent cartridge choice! I bought my wife an x bolt in 7mm-08 last year and it drives tacks with 120 grain ttsx factory ammo.
I’m running a bottom metal and mag from mountain tactical it’s by far the best improvement for the money other then a trigger spring which is cheap. Not sure I see Jason at MT has had some issues but they used to offer packages with different upgrades in them. The bottom metal also has a stainless steel mag release rather then plastic. And their anodized aluminum mags pop right in and work flawlessly. There’s no doubt it will shoot great, many say they shoot slow I’m very curious to see what you find out on that. Congratulations, Tikka for those that know.
You heard correctly. I had quite a few Tikkas before I heard the news that they are slow. It is 100% true. It is more pronounced with factory ammo, however. And when you heard slow, they meant it. Like 200fps slower. That said, when handloading, they can take more powder, generally. I think this has to do with the European CIP standard. When I say more powder, I mean, in a handload. And this seems to close the disparity. Example. My son's 270 Win Tikka is shooting half MOA with 150 Nosler AB over 59.5-ish grains of H4831SC, 2960fps. I can't get to that charge weight in my custom 270s. They cap around 57.0 grains. This is with Norma, Starline, and Winchester brass, Federal 210 match primers. I have what I call a known load that seems to work in every 270 I shoot regardless of custom, Tikka, or barrel or action make. 130 Barnes TTSX, 59.5 grains Superformance, 3350+fps 25.5" Hart barrel, 3300fps 24" barrels (Krieger, Broughton, Brux, Lilja), 3170fps for the factory Tikka barrels - and that's their blued chrome or stainless barrels.
@@Accuracy1st thanks for the honest information, it makes me curious as their factory barrels are supposedly the same as what goes on the Sako. If this is honestly the case then a Sako factory barrel would also be slow. I’ve heard others mention they’re slow but it’s kinda been kept quiet.
I would recommend changing bottom plastic to aluminum. I went with mountain tactical very good fit and finish work. Also change plastic bolt stop to stainless but I don't think it's a deal breaker if you don't still shoot good with the plastic but can get more torque on action screws with the aluminum bottom over plastic
I looked at the factory Tikka grips. Seems like everyone under the sun has migrated to the vertical grip style. Frankly, after 2 years of multiple stocks designed that way, my jury is still out on whether or not I even like it. I'm more of a traditional grip guy I guess. What other pad are you considering? I got one from Jim at Backfire for my wife's Tikka compact. It's nice. Whatever you do, don't store your Tikka upright propped on that limbsaver pad. It could deform due to the softness. I'm more than satisfied with the limbsavers. As for the recoil lug upgrade, you nor the rifle will realize any difference. I've got several of both. I shot several of my Tikkas with and w/o the M.T. lug and nothing changed (accuracy).
@@hopefulballistics If you had a 300WinMag you'd appreciate the Backfire pad a little more but with a 708, trust me, you're going to be MORE than pleased. This is just another absolute bonus with Tikkas. You can upgrade them for CHEAP and what a pleasure to shoot.
So far I'm not that impressed with the backfire recoil pad. It feels cheap compared to the limbsaver. I don't see it lasting very long especially out in the elements while hunting.
@@eggbert191 Interesting. I only have one and that's because the Tikka compact stock size. Limbsaver's Ruger Compact pad is the exact size but it's made with pins specific to the Ruger and the screw holes do not match the Tikka. If they did I would never had a need to go with the Backfire pad. I actually haven't shot it yet and the only reason I upgraded that rifle was for my wife and she's never hunted or shot a firearm but agreed to start with me this fall. So I want her to have the most comfortable experience and the rifle is chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor so it doesn't kick much anyway.
My dad has one in 25-06, my biggest complaint is the trigger, i like the one in my CVA Cascade more. A cheek riser or stock pack would do good too as the stocks are pretty thin and tend to slap a bit.
Never owned a Tika, but would think a better recoil pad is something that should be standard equipment for a rifle of this quality. An adjustable comb is another option that should be available as other companies are now offering. Are different paint schemes available? Any rifle these days with plastic bottom " metal" is a turn-off for me. Just shows cutting corners IMO. Hope it shoots as good as the folk lore says it's supposed to. Good luck with your journey.
Yes but that goes for all the other rifles too most don’t have a good pad on them and at about $40. You can make the rifle about the best you will ever need at least for hunting
All of my Tikka triggers were able to get down to 2 pounds without the spring swap. I would put the factory recoil pad back on, forget about the bottom metal, and forget about the recoil lug swap. Dremel out the pressure point in the stock. Choose some better bullets, upgrade the scope, and ditch the bipod then you’re set. Enjoy.
needs versus following the other sheep lol. light weight not a problem with that calibre recoil etc. can upgrade to stock, tripod, glass, slings and attachments even trigger. but do you need to or want to? forgot the can factor too.
Dont like to spend a lot on upgrades, makes me feel i bought the wrong gun. Unfortunatly i need. A shorter length of pull with plastic pads it dont go well.
"Upgrade". Yeah, you already messed up by putting a Vortex on it. That limbsaver looks like crap. You really don't need to upgrade the original recoil pad. The T3X is an "upgrade" over the older T3. A 7mm-08 doesn't have enough recoil, to warrant switching to a different recoil pad. Your trigger pull should be adjustable down to 2.5 pounds. All of mine do, with ease. Tikka's are rifles that are just about perfect, right out of the box. You need to go and shoot it, and you will find that out.
It went to between 3 and 3 1/2 and that’s it on the trigger. I like the recoil pad and scope. I guess if it perfect out of the box it doesn’t even need a scope, huh?
Nothing. I love those rifles have had many through the years now. And maybe the stock but the trigger might need some lighting maybe I could always get mine down to 2 pounds that was good enough for me.
I thought the same thing when I got my first few Tikkas. Then I shot them. Then I cried a river when I learned an $800 factory rifle made in Finland shoots my handloads the same as my customs I spent $5000+ on. Sure the custom built rifles had superior fit and finish but I didn't sink that money into them to hang them on a wall like a collector. The stock is what it is to meet budget minded shooters/hunters. And, they flat out work and work well.
@derekmcmurry tiika are some of tge best factory rifles. The stock is the week point though. I personally can't get comfortable if it doesn't have adjust cheek and length of pull as well.
Honestly, if Tikka rifles are so freaking " great " WHY would you have to spend ONE DIME more on that rifle? According to all the Tikka fanbois it is perfect, right?? 😂
Respectfully, I'm a gigantic Tikka fanboy. They are "freaking great" because of the action quality and accuracy. Secondly, in my opinion, it's the best factory trigger on the planet, easily tuned with a lighter spring for $8 from anarchy outdoors or $9 from mountain tactical. The factory recoil pad is fine on lighter cartridges from, say, 270 Win on down but for $32 on amazon you can get the limbsaver. I reckon the same argument can be made about anyone's favorite truck, like a Ford, for example. If they are so freaking "great" why do they need any mods at all? More often that not, in my experience, a fella buys a truck, then "tricks it out" with wheels, lifts, bigger tires, etc. It's all about preferences. Wouldn't you agree for less than $100 you could upgrade a Tikka to function more to your satisfaction including a better pad, spring, grip? You can't replace a Bergara or Rem 700/clone trigger for less than $100 with something like a TT, Timney, Huber, etc.
I changed the recoil pad on my 270 n lowered the trigger. But go ahead with what suits you. This gun shoots so well my only regret is I didn’t get one sooner
Tikka is to Sako what the Savage Axis is to the 110. It's a more affordable rifle from a company that makes some of the best rifles on the planet. My dad had a Sako Forrester and it was the best shooting gun that I've ever hunted with. When I was looking for a new rifle after being away from hunting for a while I really wanted a Tikka but every place near me was out of stock and on backorder so I bought another 110 since I had already owned two of them.

I’m debating getting a better recoil pad but it ain’t that bad until after a box of ammo. (F.P Berger hunter hybrid 185). I myself thinking about upgrading the rifle but unsure yet. So perfect the way it is
It is really good right out of the box.
Limbsaver pad is awesome and works as advertised but don't let it rest on carpet in the safe or house as for whatever reason the pad will turn to goo
@@vicjones1179 I appreciate it!
Tikka rebate $75 right now.
Only cuz i bought one a month ago 😂
Just bought two Tikka T3x superlites 6.5cm and 300 WSM. Gonna shoot them factory and see how they do. Then start with minor upgrades. First factory built guns that i have purchased in 20yrs. I have always went with custom rifles. Last year i got to shoot a couple Tikka at a hunt i was on. I knew then i was gonna purchase a couple. IMHO probably one of the best off the shelf rifles you can get. America need a substitute when Remington went belly up. Tikka rifles quickly took the place and you are definitely getting a better product.
Right on, I appreciate it!
MCarbo Trigger spring kit is amazing! do it, super easy to install
A trick is to screw the trigger screw almost always in. Let it sit 24 hours then test the stick trigger again.
works even better with the replacement spring
I have the hunter stock. It feels a lot better in the hands than the plastic one. No mods to the rifle at all. Even use the tikka rings that came with it. All the best from aus.
Thanks!
With that action, there's unlimited possibilities....
True
Right on🙌 look at all the customs being built in it! For good reason I have built I think at my last count 15-20 of them and the shoots about as good as you will ever need for hunting other then replacing the recoil pad
I would recommend the lighter trigger spring. I'm very interested to see how the 140ish gr. Bullets shoot in it.
I’ve got it ordered
I plan on getting the exact same rifle in the same cartridge and bedding it into a Manners MCS-EH1-TK stock plus aluminum bottom metal.
Yes it’s a big upgrade, but those stocks absolutely transform the rifle into something darn near as good as a custom.
7mm-08 is one of thee most versatile cartridges. Excellent choice.
Thanks
Just a heads up Sportsman’s Warehouse has Timney Tikka triggers on sale for like $163 on their website.
Nice! Thanks
I appreciate it
You heard correctly.
I appreciate it
@@hopefulballistics I think you already changed the worsts thing the factory recoil pad
Yes the Backfire pad. Your experience is all I need to know about the recoil lug, I’ll pass on that. Bottom metal?
@@hopefulballistics I just wrote a long reply on that
@@hopefulballistics If you had a 300WinMag you'd appreciate the Backfire pad a little more but with a 708, trust me, you're going to be MORE than pleased.
Thanks
@@hopefulballistics also.. get some 160gr tmks 😉
I just want to see some load work up.
Maybe I missed in a previous video, but I'm curious as to why the 7mm-08? It's great, just curious.
@@montanamusings there are several rifles, and several cartridges that I’m always flirting with getting, lol. I finally just picked this combo.
I appreciate it, thanks!
Enjoy.
I appreciate your opinion, but you’re basically saying every thing I’ve done or thinking about doing is wrong according to you?
Stock the new sako has an amazing stock.
Right on
love the rifle, I'm fine with no recoil pad, just a steel buttplate on 30-06 and smaller
needs versus following the other sheep lol. light weight not a problem with that calibre recoil etc. can upgrade to stock, tripod, glass, slings and attachments even trigger. but do you need to or want to? forgot the can factor too.
Can't believe you got this in an outdated cartridge... Creedmoor and PRC cartridges are the only way to go
7mm-08 tickled my fancy
Upgrade that bolt shroud and maybe get it threaded
What about getting barrel threaded?
Suppressors are so expensive, I don’t want a muzzle brake. I might change my mind later.
Get a Jard trigger. Tried spring replacement and it does not help much.
@@jeffprewitt7207 interesting
Gentry quiet muzzle brake, timney tikka trigger down the road
Looks like you've got some things to iron out 😆
lol, that’s right!
Dont like to spend a lot on upgrades, makes me feel i bought the wrong gun. Unfortunatly i need. A shorter length of pull with plastic pads it dont go well.
That's the beauty of Tikka. Upgrades are cheap. With a shorter LOP, you could get a Tikka Compact
@@shanerhodes925 thanks
Try 150eldx with varget.
@@DrewEdwardBacklas sounds good
I would replace the stock for sure. No matter how you slice it the Tupperware stock is ugly and a good looking stock makes me happy lol
Thanks. I don’t think it’s ugly.
Get GRS Fenris stock 👍
Leave it. Unless you just can’t stand it to be factory. I put a brake on my 300 win mag. T3x light. That’s it. But your gun why bother.
I appreciate it
Good rifle but get an GRS stock...
Almost the perfect whitetail rig,,,,,except for the scope. The VX is just too big.
@@TODinWY what scope would you pick?
@@hopefulballistics SWFA 2.5-10x Compact. Wonderful scope.
Mess with the trigger and call it good.
Chuck the stock in the garbage. If it's in tge budget put it in an mdt hnt 26
So far I think it’s pretty great. Perfect? Nope.
Tikka fan boy here but the recoil pads are trash.
I put a thick eBay recoil pad on my t3x scope bite from too much movement in the riffle 🥲
Seems like a common concern
