In Moscow in the 80s there was a saying that if you wore the ear flaps down you were a bit of a girl. I wanted to fit in so I wore them up throughout the winter of 1988, minus 30 celcius. Moral: don’t try to fit in.
When i was a kid i the 90's in Canada, it was not even that cold out... just very windy, the way i was standing the wind hit one side of my face for some time. i got a inner ear issue i forgot what it was called, i was very young but it killed every nerve in half my face. I did not feel anything and my skin dropped, after a few months of meds it slowly came back. I was lucky.
I've always been a little worried that I was going to get called a commie or something for wearing it, but it's probably just all in my head. I either get compliments or I get to not freeze my ass off. Nothing but good has come from wearing a Ushanka in the winter, so I don't worry about the dumb thoughts in my head telling me it might draw negative attention, because it really doesn't.
@@sayoshinakamario Yeah, things have changed since last I wrote this. If it was really cold out, I'd still wear it, but if I see a bunch of "my people" sporting Gadsen, Punisher and American flag symbols, I'll probably not be wearing it without them knowing I'm not antifa or whatnot.
Lovely Ushanka...so the Mink is high status. I have one from 1972..with the mink label inside. Got it from my grandfather before he passed on.. Never wore it. Thinking about it now. Much love from NYC. Keep up the excellent work. ✌

Personally i opt for russian military ushankas for just in general wear because I like the look and feel and I know they are of high quality just to enjoy the winter outdoors. This video has kinda eye opened and now I will look for another ushanka for wear when it is cold and I wish to be more formal in appearance so to speak :)
After viewing your videos I find you very interesting and fascinating. If I were in Europe I’d enjoy very much sitting down with you over a meal and a few shots of vodka and tonic and chat about watches and gentlemen’s style.
LOL! I love it! Especially the sense of humor! You ought to wear a Russian watch for this video. Ushanka is definitely more stylish than a beanie. I call beanies a "condom". They look exactly like condoms, some like a condom during backward movement, some - like during forwarding thrust, and yet others look like at the very end, with tip heavy from the load and hanging down.

I’ll take a enlisted soldiers wool one over a officers anyday. Nothing warmer than wool. Hint, get one a couple sizes bigger to fit down over your ears. That way you don’t have to drop the ear flaps down.

i like this video i do but unfortunately the russian music that you are listening to is a polish song by a polish composer being played by the polish philharmonic orchestra
It's even more complicated. Olga Scheps was born in Russian but lives in Cologne/Germany since she was a toddler. Music apparently doesn't accept any borders. But you're right of course, Chopin was polish.

I like a lot of your video bro but you are wrong on the proportions. Your Finnnish ushanka is... Куцая. See Soviet movies for the proper ushanka proportions. Btw, you shouldn't wear it in the rain either way, so the full fur ushanka is more elite than a part leather or suede ushanka.
