Ande lawl my the media . sometimes by our parents and gaurdians. and some folks say "i wish i had GOOD hair" like the hair they born with isn't good. think about it ...in the last few mainstream movies that featured black women in even in major roles were they wearing their natural hair? the only one i can think of is lupita n'yongo (is that how you spell it) . it is only recently I'm starting to see more posivity to natural black hair. me personally i had to learn to love mine...but that doesnt mean it dont like to mix it up with a good wig every now and again

I see a lot of comments regarding the look of these women, and imo it's the combo of the hair and dark lipstick that seems to not work with the uniform. Most teams try a look or two that doesn't work; but that does not mean they're not dancing!

I think there are still some underlying confidence issues and interpretations of what beauty is embodied here, even at an Historically Black University.

After watching several videos these across a few HBCU bands and dancers, I was struck with the preponderance of lovely young sisters and not one bodacious afro or breezy braid/loc style among them, but lots of wigs and weaves. I know in Hawaiian Hula part of the aesthetic is flowing wavy curly sometimes a few kinks but definitely long long hair. Is this shoulder length or longer straightened hair part of the aesthetic and therefore a prerequisite for band dance lines in these schools too?
