I'm in FTC, and was doing research for this upcoming season. I thought this may have been an april fools joke but I then checked the date and nearly had a heart attack. It was only then that I realized it was FRC not FTC.
I went back and watched the older game animations and it just makes me appreciate this one even more. Steamworks may have been a rough year for my team but at least the theme was dope.
I was in first 2 years ago when they did "Recycle Rush". My parents and grandparents were excited to come to my matches but they had no idea what was going on. I feel like other parents and relatives will have the same level of enthusiasm and confusion my folks did during this game
This game is definitely better than that one though. Also, it's pretty simple: get as many balls and gears in place as possible, then climb the rope at the end.
When Team 4508 went to its first FRC competition we, too, had no idea what too expect. I watched my son's team online. The following year I was able to attend the event in person. It was beyond my wildest dreams. Viewing online was nice, but it was nothing compared to being there in person. So much energy! Now I'm hooked to go to every tournament!
If it makes you feel any better, Andrew Tickel, My daughter had her first comp today (Oct 21st, 2017). I work in IT and have a general understanding about robots. But I was still a bit confused. Sigh.
this is my first year in a FIRST directed robotics team, and I'm super amped! this is something I love doing and I love the math and thought that goes into everything we have to do. personally I'm a programmer but I don't have a problem doing design/engineering. Best of luck to everyone else competing this year, especially noobs like me and rookie teams!!

Gotta Iove Disney making fun games like this. This game and Stronghold were made with their help, that's why there was a big quality boost from Recycle Rush to Stronghold.
HAVE you SEEN how bad the connection is inside of matches? One disconnect and your robot is scrap metal. Plus bumpers would be virtually impossible, and if two robots collide one could be sent flying into the viewing audience.
They focus so much on scoring fuel points in this animation, but it hardly impacts the score in-game. At my team's first competition, literally no team focused on scoring fuel.
Zach M. there were a couple 1 point victories and even more 2-10 point victories at the Glacier Peak PNW event... Because all other scoring methods have maximum caps, once teams start hitting that cap, the fuel starts deciding matches.
Yeah, at the competition (MAR Springside) afted I made that comment, I noticed the same thing. Scoring can get pretty predictable, and there were even some ties. Having the one or two point advantage from the fuel boiler can win it.

They clearly launch a gear in the animation but that is clearly against the rules....
I think that you can launch the gear onto the little pin, but that launching the gear to the human player past the barrier from the field is illegal
It says no throwing gears in general I just thought it was funny that that happened...

Why afraid? That would have been a nice challenge, impossible with the current control system because of its mass but, still nice.

Huh. This a far cry from the FRC what I remember, which boiled down to "Kick the ball" or "Pick up the Ball. /Then/ kick the ball."
