And I was mad when the first chain store (dollar general) came to town. We had NO chain restaurants or stores. No chain anything. Life was good. We were happy. Leave us alone. We won't comply. We'd rather go to jail than let you slowly take away everything we hold dear while we sit complicity by.

I honestly think you have less than a year. If you are not established and you do not have heirloom seeds from past years for your area. I believe you're going to have a tough time. Root crops are a must in my opinion. Chickens and we know if we've been paying attention they are attacking them. Rabbits. You know the saying they breed like rabbits. But you have to be able to provide your own food to feed them so that you can feed yourself and your family. This is a daunting task. And I am old. I only hope younger people are paying attention. I do my best to teach them what I know but this is extremely difficult in this time we live in. Oh and I almost forgot. You're r going to need a greenhouse. Any healthy adult with even a little land can grow a tremendous amount of food, which can be started in any given year. What can't be started so quickly is building the knowledge and supplies/equipment/storage needed to do so and preserve it. I often tell folks that I can grow and preserve enough food for my family, but the diet would initially be very boring. It is this aspect that I'm now concentrating on, particularly developing perennial food sources. I try to improve my security every year. Last year's major project was a wood shed addition to the barn to hold 12 cords of wood, which is now just about full, representing 2+ years of heating. My range top now uses propane, which of course you can stockpile and doesn't require electricity to work. Similarly I now have a farm gas tank that I cycle fresh fuel through, which with some rationing on my part is enough for about a year of use. Since I'm in my 70s I don't expect to reap a lot of the benefits I'm working on, but it will be there for subsequent generations if needed.

Speaking of 2020, I remember going to the grocery store when ALL the flour was gone, but the yeast, baking soda/powder and even the salt was untouched, clearly no one knew how to use that flour they grabbed in fear. A better investment than flour without yeast powder soda or even salt would have been Bibles, yet again few panic who own and use one.

Questionable, but there is always something that can go wrong in a persons life that makes having some (comfort) food on the shelf and some months of rent/insurance/etc. money in the savingsaccount worth the planning. I have done these simply due to living alone, and from finding a shelf empty of needed animal feed (problem at the factory). It is usually not the big stuff you need to worry about, but the "small" stuff like job loss, health issues and so forth. It is wise to prep for problems that will impact only your family, because those have a high likelyhood of happening and can very well save your sanity and marriage.

Not only can we demonstrate resistance to fear but working with joy and peace for life affirming processes and results. Just In Time (JIT) logistics is a corporate enhancement for profits but is woefully inadequate for disruptions. Maybe we can imagine and refine "De-Corporating" ourselves in all areas of life immune support, food preservation and production, land conservation and defense, off grid energy production, etc etc. Classic methods coupled with modern science could yield exciting results. Most importantly, we need each other there's a lot of damage our reliance on technology has done to us socially and a Spiritual revival will bring us together in love and respect. Let's occupy!

It seems like half the homes in the Midwest have some level of garden in the backyard. Gardens provide many benefits. The vegetables are more nutritious than those from industrial producers. You can't buy vegetables that fresh. It's fun and saves money.
Gardening also has a lot of synergies with animals. Chickens can turn rotten tomatoes into fresh eggs. Goats seem to prefer freshly pulled weeds over any other food. Spring is when wasted hay and used bedding become garden mulch. Manure is better than most fertilizers and spreading it on a garden is a second chance to absorb purchased nutrients.

Just now subscribed to your newsletter and guide.
I was lucky growing up with people who can be considered the last of the old time pioneers in the Pacific Northwest and Montana. I'm 69 my Great Grandmother died in the 60's in her late 90's my Grandparents (Scots and American) started out life with horse drawn equipment and travel. Both Grand Dads fought in WW1 and lived through the Great Depression with my parents as children doing what today is called "Prepping" or "Survivalisim". This was a normal way of life on both sides of the Atlantic. I was raising my own Sheep as a 4-H project while my Scots Dad was a Ranch hand or Cowboy on various ranching and farming operations my American Mom grew up in the Idaho mountains and Eastern Oregon and Eastern Washington learning to hunt, Fish. At 20 she got into Nursing later she became a food scientist making recipes that are still in use for major nationwide food production companies. They still grew gardens and put by food until they couldn't anymore. This was a way of life for them and not a movement.
Thanks for your efforts. Your passion and willingness to learn and share your knowledge is exactly what our Nation(s) need right now. Keep doing what you're doing.

I'm learning how to farm on 1/8 acre. I can move to a bigger one later. We talk about a grid collapse. Have books on farming...practice farming...have notebooks...take notes...have everyone ON PAPER...Hardcopies don't need the grid to be used. Also, learn how to farm the old fashioned way...like with a sickle. Better to learn all of that now when you can take the time to learn one skill at a time...a lot better than having to figure EVERYTHING out at once! If the grid goes, you'll be grinding flour with a hand cranked mill baking bread with a wood fired oven. Best to learn how to do all that now...or you WILL learn it later.

I'm a prepper that started homesteading, I have always had chickens, so I decided to get goats 🐐...what a huge mistake 😂, then got some sheep to go through the learning process, I learned a lot, sheep are giant rabbits that reproduce pretty quickly, I reduced my herd dramatically, they reproduced on pasture, I now know I can produce a lot of meat on property.

I think knowledge is everything. The loss of knowledge, is in my opinion, a sin against God. Practice makes perfect. We need to be planting gardens, raising chickens, and other livestock if we can, so we know how to do it when we need to. I have gone from a very small, 4 x 10 foot garden to 3 acres, 2 or 3 chickens to a farm. Its been fun, frustrating, and enriching.

I tell people that I am not a prepper. I just have developed a lifestyle that is good and healthy. With the thought in mind of hard times. If we have a couple of cows and a few sheep, goats and chickens. With a small garden and fruit trees my food supply is as local as it gets.

Growing a garden and raising animals CAN also bring a lot of enjoyment and/or character development 😅, it is also a great opportunity to teach younger ones character development and can also be a networking opportunity as you'll probably meet a lot of other people in the area who also like guardening. It also is fascinating to learn about how God made this world so amazing. For example, i had kept the cows off a field because I wanted the grass to reseed. But then I ran out of food on the other field and so I had to bring the cows to the first field I was surprised and happy to notice that they left the tall grass ,so that it could finish maturing, and went for the smaller fresh shoots.

Id tell some people that that store would NOT be able to do much in a emergency..during water issues, stores brought in water cuz we ran out.
