I need to put sticky notes on the screen to label which strip is what. I don't know all the brands and got confused which ones you were talking about. But I love this comparison. The rooms looks so good.
Yeah I should have done that! My bad!
@@ChrisMaherDIY can you repost showing which strip is which during the video?
@@ChrisMaherDIY I think if you put the order in the description (ex: Top to Bottom), it may help people reference it.
I do think a label on the lights would be useful if you do something similar in the future. You would even put it directly on the strip to avoid possible wall damage.
Thanks for the great feedback! I just uploaded a new video with the names on the screen to make it easier to follow. Hope it helps! ruclips.net/video/osev40WiIL8/видео.html
U have my respect for buying all of these & cutting the new one open to show us
I had no idea anyone got so in depth with these type of smart LED lights. I want to say thank you very much for all the hard work you put into this video.
For comparison at wall (all Govee products, diffuser bought separately):
Strip Light M1 naked
Strip Light 2 Pro naked
-----
Strip Light M1 + diffuser
Strip Light 2 Pro + diffuser
-----
COB Strip Light Pro
Neon Desk Lights
RGBIC LED Strip Lights with Covers
Thanks! I just uploaded a new video with the names on the screen to make it easier to follow. Hope it helps! ruclips.net/video/osev40WiIL8/видео.html
I knew I could count on you to review these new Govee products. Thank You! And so glad you did a side by side comparison between them all. Very informative. Keep up the great videos. Much appreciated.
I'd like to see a comparison with the new Nanoleaf HD strips. I'm assuming those are 5V since each LED is individually addressable, which could make it amazing for animations.
Excellent video, Chris. Really helpful to see so many different demonstrations of a number of LED strips on screen at once. 👍🏻
Thank you. 🙏🏻
Given that we can convert Govees to run on WLED boards, would you still recommend some of the classic Amazon-available light strips for WLED, or would you be inclined to start suggesting the new Govee strips for both Govee PNP and WLED?
can I wled them?
You should have labeled the different strips so they would have been superimposed (visible) on the video while you were testing them. The video was hard to follow which strip was which.
Thanks for the great feedback! I just uploaded a new video with the names on the screen to make it easier to follow. Hope it helps! ruclips.net/video/osev40WiIL8/видео.html
@@ChrisMaherDIY Thank you for making the update!
I really enjoy your videos.
You are THE go-to resource for string/strip smart-home lighting.
Well done on this vid as always.
Awesome video it was just what I was looking for. You helped make my final decision.
Thanks! Glad the video helped!
My wife and I kept saying “which is?” Each time you mentioned a light strip. A graphic pointer would have worked here.
Govee COB Strip Light is what I was waiting for! But god damn, 33€ each meter?! Are they crazy?!
I will still buy it as soon as the 5 meter version comes out with cyber week discount. Like in the last 50% discount, where I bought many M1 5 meter lights
Great vid! I remember you asking govee to add animation sync between strips, have they done that yet?
Do you think the Pros with Govee's software are overall better than using a high quality RGB strip (WS2811 or something like that) with WLED? I kind of torn between getting the Govee solution or building my own strip with a diffuser.
Finally!
Thank you Chris.
Really helpful comparison! Of course I just replaced my old Govee light strip with BTF COB white only strips as my primary office lighting... and now there's two great options in these new Govee pro and cob strips lol
Hmmm I’m looking at adding some shop lighting to my garage and the cob strip might actually be the way to go lol. Bright enough and CRI enough to be normal lights but it would also be cool to have the party option lol
He did mention CRI above 90, but I cannot find that number mentioned anywhere in writing. I am also looking to upgrade my shop light above my workbench.
Great job! That was a lot of work and is much appreciated. I will probably watch a few more times for the comparisons, but for the most part I agreed with your assessment. Admittedly I like the ease of the COB, but the Pro was really nice.
Can I connect multiple Cob's together? I need roughly 52' to go around my daughter bedroom.
I like the Cob so I don't need to also do a diffuser, to get a a cleaner look.
Thank you so much for all these LED showcases! Gonna buy with your link
Great video thank you so much
I thought I was going to be into the COB most, but the 16-bit color data on the light 2 pro makes them wildly better to me. I can just get diffusers (thanks to your research and videos) to make the better strip look diffused.
I would love for you to deep dive between the best govee and then similar WLED settings or exactly where WLED excels compared to the newer govee products. I know there are perks to WLED, but the DIY can be a little stressful/time consuming. It would be neat to help people see the perks of DIY vs Govee's best, and see how worth it is to them to do either.
You are the goat sir
I was wondering the difference between the cob and the desk strip. Thank you for clearing that up.
This was exactly what I was looking for. My question is how did you get that animation to go from the corner? I would love to get mine to start at the corner of my room.
Matter over Thread or Matter over WiFi?
I have the diffuser with cover from Govee, but I was very disappointed in the brightness, otherwise its a really nice and easy light to set up. I have the M1 strip with a diffuser, in my room as the main light, that I bought and its amazing and very bright. So spend the extra money and go with new pro strip, and buy a diffuser for it if you're going for that strip being your main light.
might use the cob strip for under my kitchen cabinets it has matter so can turn it on and off with my home assistant and a zigbee button
Commenting til Chris reacts to my LED setup🤞🤞
Thanks mate. Well done set up btw
The Coffee Cup strip?
Might I suggest changing the description from "Diffuser with Cover" to something like "Govee LED Strip with Covers"? I clicked on it about 3 times trying to find the diffusers you used before realizing that was the next link in the list. You do have both the Amazon and Govee links, so it was apparent to me what it meant, but it was still confusing when checking out the links.
Outside of that - great comparison video!
Curious what your thoughts are on Govee's app ethics/security? This is mainly why I don't buy their stuff but I love the products and prices.
Can you cut the cob lights and extend them with wires to get to a different location.
Great video Chris. We need a comparsion u108 vs u109. I think that it will be very interesting!
I love the idea you shown using a led strip for my super dark staircase going to my basement. The Govee cob was your recommendation for something to be used as a primary light source. It's kinda expensive would you have any budget friendly alternative recommendations for the exact same use case?
Amazing video.
With the new Strip Light 2 Pro what is the longest option they are going to offer? I would love to use these in places like my living room. but I would need over 70 feet and for them to synch as one long series.
This looks awesome. Which are better to control, WLED or Gove? Any chance I can reach out for advice on a studio build I'm doing? I would like to use your knowledge.
I still think your diy stairs leds takes home the gold
Hey Chris, this was a great video and clearly took a lot of work. Thanks for helping us LED lovers make good product choices!
Quick question - What is the width of the new COB light (with the diffuser removed)? Would you consider doing a quick teardown video and maybe posting it as a short? I'm starting to do custom light installs for clients and would like to consider this as my new default for LED lighting. Thank you!
i love it that you compare and review and show sooo many different LED strips. with your videos i made my diffused indirect desktop background lighting and its just nice (but i wanna do something new after 21 month xD) so thanks for this video! i used the m1 strips and if i redo some parts or the whole setup i might jump to the pro for better brightness and smoothness.
🙌🖖
Those COB lights look amazing. Is there any way to get super thick RGBICW COB lights without a controller? I'd love to hook those up to an WLED controller
Can you cut and extend the COB like you did the M1 lightstrips?
Is it possible to cut and join the COB using some sort of connectors? For something like 2 floating shelves from the same strip..
What is the width of the COB lights. GOVEE hasn’t released the dimensions which is frustrating
Amazing videos, content and very informative. I truly enjoy watching all you videos, what would you recommend for under tv shelf lighting?
How many LEDs are there per controllable zone? Last time i got Govee 24 volt I had horrible addressability
I just got M1 and installed them… should I take it off and change it to the strip light 2 pro one and hopefully attempt a refund?
I’m in the same boat cut diffuser channels and everything. Commenting so hopefully I can get an opinion on this too
Same here. Haven’t installed yet but want to make sure these new ones are able to be cut and spliced together with wire like Chris did on the M1 video.
is the thing displaying pixel art a TV or some kind of digital wallpaper
I am by far a straight noob but I am wondering why you insist on the trim pieces? Is it more aesthetically appealing or does it make the light look better? Or both
For under cabinet lighting, we have a direct line to 120V (hard wired). Would this work for that situation or would you recommend another strip?
Is the part at 9:53 in slow motion? The 6 LED groups are quite visible with some animations
Hi Chris! Great comparison as always. Wondering about the splicing possibilities of the 2 pro version? At what interval does the light strip enable copper points for soldering? If I’m not mistaken, the M1 has soldering points every 50 cm or 100 cm? From the pictures there seems to be a lot of cutting possibilities but no solder points?
thank you for the great content! for non-govee strips do you have a recommended alternative to the MagWLED controller? they appear to be sold out currently
Do the pro get dimmer than the Govee strip light with cover
Hi Chris, great video What are the dimensions of the silicone tubing that houses the cob strip? I've got an 18mm channel in some base boards, wondered if it'd fit? Thanks
I am thinking of getting the govee strip light 2 pro to fit wrap around the edges of my celling wall. I would like to know if several of the light strips can be connected together as one?
Great video. Chris, are you able to cut and reconnect these Pros with wire like you do in your M1 video?
I used to have LED strips under my desks but I trashed them when I remodeled some time ago. I'm really interested in something like this but that I can also control via home automation (Home Assistant and/or Hubitat). Is this a good set for that? Up to now, I've been preparing of going down the path of buying generic strips of some sort and controlling them with WLED32 and a control board.
Thanks in advance.
I have an L shaped desk that has also a waterfall edge on one side. Would it be the COB light strip be flexible enough to cover the side of the waterfall edge (I am thinking of sticking it on the side that one touches)? Btw awesome video
Whats the width and depth of the cob light strip pro?
It would have been nice to have some text on screen to help the viewer know which each strip is throughout the video when comparing multiple strips
Thanks for the great feedback! I just uploaded a new video with the names on the screen to make it easier to follow. Hope it helps! ruclips.net/video/osev40WiIL8/видео.html
@@ChrisMaherDIY amazing content. Keep up the good work
are the new COB lights relinkable ?
I literally just got on a chat with Govee asking about cutting and reattaching the New Pro Model. They said they can’t be cut & reattached. Which I doubt but…I just bought the MagWLED-1 & SK6812’s. Was thinking of returning but think I’ll stay the course now. Better safe than sorry I guess.
It is definitely cuttable because they advertise it, and it has the scissors symbol on it. I agree with support in the reuniting, that is not mentioned anywhere in the instructions. My M1 have soder points where I can reuniting them together. The Pro version doesn't seem to have them.
can I cut the COB lights and relink them ?
Govee trying to take all my money. Thanks for the great content, Chris.
Someone needs to have a 50ft strip for Trey lighting pre built
@ChrisMaherDIY hi, I cannot find somehow any of corners for this specific enlarged U-shape diffusers. Any chances you can PM link to it? Also saw comments in amazon that ppl cannot find any corners for this m108 model
Can you use the new pro light strip and run 2 of them ( 1 left to right and the other right to left so you can buy the end up to each other ) and then run the Govee effects across both but have it look like 1 big effect? Like have it start at the far left, run to the end, then have it continue on the 2nd strip starting at the end and running to the far right? Basically having 2 strips run the same effect but reverse one strip so the effect would look like it's running around, all in the same direction, across 2 strips? I hope I'm explaining myself/asking this the right way so you get what I'm asking.
in your opinion would the Cob ones be good for under kitchen cabinet lighting?
My Cabinets don't have anything at the bottom to cover a led strip and the cob does look kind of clean, the issue is then just the brightness and whether it's nice enough to do kitchen work in.
i currently have ones that are cheap cob lights and i can see them blink in the corner of my eyes (not power issue, just old leds i'm sure), and are ugly but at least i don't stand in the way of my own light source when cooking.
Chris, are you able to get the BTF Lighting Cob 720 16.5 to work with a ESP32 controller? I can't get the flickering to stop with a 12v PSU and ESP32 on a separate 5volt power supply. I've tried the 720, 670 strips, both behave the same way on multiple ESP32s.
ok my question is, the last portion where you use fluctuate as one of your settings.... I don't see this in the app as an option. does it require you to have multiple sets of lights to see this option? you do not explain this and you zoom past explaining so do explain now. I don't see this fluctuate option.
thanks
Thanks for watching. Are you talking about when they were reacting to music? If so, that was when I had them playing through dreamview.
What tv led strips are those you are using?
Thanks for watching. Check out this video I did on those: ruclips.net/video/oJSHDFETdV8/видео.html
Why does the Strip Light 2 Pro sound like WS2805 to me?
Because it is...
Save some Hobby Lobby for the rest of us
can you cut and relink the COB lights ?
yes, you can see the soder points at 1:40
The inability to cut and reconnect makes both absolutely useless for my use case. Bummer
Good and bright, decent color... But... I feel like Govee is like WLED for the tech inept. WLED can do all this and has been available for years. Govee got a lot of catching up to do it seems. App = Subpar compared to WLED, LEDs = all from the same 5-7 manufacturers in China, and their price is 3-8x what you would pay assembling it yourself with an off the shelf WLED controller and the strips themselves. Plus with WLED for most strips minus COB, you get individual LED control. Something most off the shelf units just can't seem to accomplish at all. So far, their premade outdoor strips are the only product I've seen from them that would probably be more costly to replicate DIY.
Do the Govee COBs have an equivalent that has as many LEDs per meter? It looks higher than anything I could find on Amazon.
Not the Cobb. They built that in house.
Not for the tech inept. Some people just want plug and play. There isn’t anything wrong with that either. There’s a difference.
@@jayehm9446 LOTS of commercial WLED plug and play controllers out there. And have been for 3-4 years now. Govee = pricy for what it is. Putting it all in the same box with slightly less capability than WLED, for 2-3x the cost is ok for some I guess. But with a few more clicks, you get basically the exact same thing, with a far better and more capable app, more finite LED control, the ability to add DMX, CAT5, Longer Range, Multiple Channels, Synchronization, sound reactivity, relays, touch/motion/presence switching, etc... for 2-3x less money.
@@ElevatedVehicles 2 Strips of BTF COB side by side are about the same brightness as these, similar width, at 1500+ LED/m. Again, this really isn't particularly special/new. Just packaged differently.
What controller do you recommend for 1500 leds (60 leds/m X 25 meters)? I currently use esp32 wled but it is a bit slow on the animations (low fps) and laggy.
Where can I get the double sided tape that he uses ?
Sorry i forgot to add it! Here it is: amzn.to/3B7xxDw
Got a link for the double sided tape sir?
Sorry! Here it is Sticky Tape: amzn.to/3B7xxDw
I believe the COB lights also may use the most electricity. Its a shame it uses more than a 8W color bulb
Its a shame you can't search the specifications yourself!
Pro uses 14,4W each 1meter, where COB uses 16W each 1meter.
No 16.4ft version on Amazon is a bummer
Cobb version
How would these compare to ws2812b or similar btf lighting strips?
the costs are almost the same. And you have extra more work with WLED
@@Hrupix yeah that’s not a problem, I already have wled. Just wondered what looked better
Nice but can t remember which one is what...
a missed opportunity to label the strips (even in post production)
Thanks for the great feedback! I just uploaded a new video with the names on the screen to make it easier to follow. Hope it helps! ruclips.net/video/osev40WiIL8/видео.html
@chrisMaher do you share your cool animation under a Govee profile we can follow? Govee allows users to use others' animations and I really like many of yours, and I think many others do.
Yeah but you are locked into their proprietary cloud software. I thought you were more about WLED
Where can i get that exact COB LED strip without paying the Govee premium? I have everything but the strip.
You can’t, it’s an in house designed chip.
inform yourself at BTF-Lighting website
I just bought the fucking m1s
looks like a 2000 dollar setup 😀 but I like it
My guy has 1000 dollars of led strips in his rooms corner
How much did that project cost for you?
$100 for 9 ft? Gahhhhh
IM GUESSING that you don’t typically make these types of comparison videos. I have to suggest maybe watching your own video before uploading since you’re comparing 7 different make & model options. However, as you go through all the settings to compare them, your referring to the ones you like or think work best, yet your referring to all of them by they’re model numbers. LIKE WE FREAKING KNOW ALL THE DIFFRENT LIGHT MODELS. Rediculous that you think the people watching this video, NERDS OUT on lighting like you do, and understand what the hell you’re talking about. Should have added an arrow on screen to point at the one you’re speaking about. SMH
ruclips.net/video/osev40WiIL8/видео.html
The cobs seem really bad at fading. If only the animations were as smooth as the pros on the COB it would be perfect.
HAHHA Good ole Govee and their over priced lights.. 100 bucks for 16 feet... nope!!.. I'll stick with the $16 dollars for 16ft WS2812b's and the 3 for $12 dollar ESP32 board with FREE WLED sorry but someone needs to kick govee off their high horse...
you forgot to add the power supply + wagoo connector + cable costs to your list buddy.
This looks ugly as the strip lights are just attached to the wall in plain sight
