To make this short, my stage 4 melanoma started in my lymph nodes. I was given 2 months to live. I had a total of 111 lymph nodes removed and here I am still alive 9 years later! I'm happy for you sir!!
My mom died this year of rectal mucosal melanoma. She died 14 months after diagnosis. It was found during a routine colonoscopy, which she had more frequently due to having rectal cancer 6 years prior. The doctors won’t admit, but I am fairly certain the melanoma was a result of radiation from her prior cancer. We went to Northwestern Hospital in Chicago and saw the specialists, and even they were stumped. She did not test positive for any genetic markers. She was only 70. I am an only child and heartbroken over this loss. I wish I could talk to her one more time. I love and miss her so much. Thank you for sharing your story and giving hope to people with this type of cancer.
My dad was diagnosed with melanoma s4 in 2014 & they gave him 18 months & told him to get everything in order. He did immunotherapy that almost killed him but it stopped his cancer from progressing. Almost 10 yrs later & he is doing great. Still has a few little spots that light up on PET but nothing has grown in well over 6 yrs. I had no idea that u could get melanoma anywhere but your skin until my dad had it in his liver, lungs, & lymph nodes. I hope u have a long, beautiful happy life Chris!

Where was he treated? My son has mucosal melanoma and he's going to a Dana Farber in Boston. It's so scary for us right now. He had sinus mucosal melanomas. He had surgery then radiation and now he's gone through chemotherapy. Right now there's no cancer they can see. He couldn't do immunotherapy it didn't work for him.

I was diagnosed with stage 3B melanoma on my right foot in 2014 and had surgery to remove it. I didn’t have chemo or immunotherapy. It metastasized 3.5 years later on my left leg. No surgery this time just Keytruda. The Keytruda took care of it. Of course I see a dermatologist every six months and am up to having a PET scan every six months. I had an appointment with my dermatologist last week who told me he didn’t expect me to be here in ten years. I took that as a compliment and celebrated that night. Good luck to you!!
I have a cordial melanoma which is at the back of my eye which is also rare. Tomorrow I have a cCT scan because there seems to be a secondary on my liver I thought I had got away with it as it’s been five years since to treatment for my eye. You are a trooper I’m not sure if I want to go through a load of treatment just to survive a few months but I hope you carry on surviving. All the best.

My experiences with a sense of urgency is that health care doesn't care .... They just say "not possible, no appointment openings for months, let's, try low key approach first...." Also, unless a patient exhibits an unquestioning attitude with complete compliance to system processes, they will be black listed and receive poor care. Self advocacy doesn't work for many!
This is an awesome story. My brother died of mucosal melanoma in his sinus (to brain) in early 2020. He actually first presented with this diagnosis in 2013 and had 5 years of remission. He was being scanned only 1x/year which was woefully inadequate. When it recurred it had already metastasized to the dura matter of the brain. I think his physicians were quite lax (MGH). So true about self-advocacy. ❤

I had aggressive breast cancer, a type that is in only 10% of all breast cancers in 2018. It was found in my first mammogram at 48yrs. It grows in lines, not lumps, so I would never have known. Genetics showed Chemo wouldn't have helped me. I had aggressive radiotherapy after double mastectomy. I am so lucky. I got the all clear in June 2023. I'm just waiting for my next x-ray 🤞🤞🤞
It sounds like you had inflammatory breast cancer. That can be difficult to treat. I'm so glad that you're cured. 😊 I had Paget's disease of the nipple, another rare form of breast cancer, and I was treated with a mastectomy 32 years ago. I'm glad that we're both survivors.
That’s the scariest thing about cancer. It doesn’t hurt most of the time. If a mass is growing and it doesn’t hurt at all you should be concerned actually, not relieved.
Yes, hopeless and helpless are exactly the right words for your first reaction to hearing you have cancer. That's the point at which you need to hear someone say, don't give up! Not enough doctors say those words to newly informed patients.
I noticed a lump, or small bulge, just below your lower lip, on the right side. Your mouth seems to draw down in the corner, on that side too. Have you, or your family noticed it? Cancer is so evil, and doesn't care who the victim is, or what good they've done. They just move in, uninvited, and as it is often with squatters, it cans take "forever", using different means, to get them out; and when they leave, they often leave all kinds of damage behind! I pray you have evicted those squatter cancer cells for good!

Your attitude is definitely an inspiration to all those who have been diagnosed with this type of rare cancer- including me. My cancer was discovered during what they thought would be a simple hemorrhoid removal. By the time it was found, it had metastasized to my liver and I was Stage 4. That was in Feb of 2023. By God’s amazing grace and an incredible team of specialists, my PET scans have shown no sign of cancer since I began a course of treatment with Imatinib/Gleevec in March of 2023. I was a 100% perfect genetic match for Imatinib, and when my oncologist informed me of this, she said, “This is God”. I knew He had placed me in the hands of the perfect doctor to see me through this with faith and positivity. You will be in my prayers daily, Chris. Thank you again for sharing your story!
Great story you shared. The big takeaway for me was the sense of urgency. It is really hard for health professionals to keep that prioritization because eventually, these life and death decisions become a day at the office for them. I don't mean that to be rude. It is just a fact of life that they need to compartmentalize, so you are SO right about advocating.

I had no treatment just removal of the tumor and abdominal debulking i took sepsis and when it was over my hair was all gray the chronic fatigue is very difficult iv read how many divorces occur because their partner cant be bothered caring for them thats tragic as your left on your own to do everything 😢😢
Yeah Chris is lucky. I’m dealing with some serious health issues on my own,(blood cancer,liver damage,PCOS,insulin resistant w/out diabetes..to name a few.) as a mom to a great 6yr old boy! His father is there, but he doesn’t help or support me in anyway regarding my health, or even financially. if anything it’s worse having him here, I think I would have more peace and way less stress if I was alone…😢
So glad you are doing so well considering the diagnosis. As a cancer survivor myself, I have concerns about all the radiation from the CTs and Pet scans. Do you worry about that? And I’ve never had a PET scan, only a couple CTs in 8 years.
I believe that if anything such as an abnormal lump is found it should be biopsied immediately. Not wait for a few weeks taking antibiotics! So many times I have heard that cancer was missed by negligent doctors.

I had malignant skin melanoma at the age of 20....Removed successfully and everything is fine for me now at the age of 53.....BUUUT, my son has/had rectal bleeding at the age of 20-23 years old......he went to see a Dr in college and a primary Dr, but they told him it was hemorrhoid's, my absolute fear is that is NOT just hemorrhoid's!!! He just thinks I am being a Mom and over paranoid. :(
I am so glad you are doing well and have such a positive attitude. I have has Basil Cell and Squamish Cell spots removed in the past year. I have remained with the positive attitude. My partner has helped me nurse my wounds. I think the worst thing I have done done after the diagnosis was research the internet. It gave me anxiety and kept me from falling asleep. I advise people not to do that. It will drive you crazy. Thank you for your story. BTW, I have my hair dyed white/grey because I like it.
I found a black nodule on my back 6mm and 2 to 3 mm in height I was down the doctors the same day who booked me in a two week emergency 2 weeks emergency ? I made at least 30 calls to private clinics to remove all fully booked so I simply paid more and had it out within 24 hours A biopsy is now in process The surgeon said that it did not fit the main character of malanoma And when the nodule was cut out the skin underneath looked healthy Best out biopsy comes back negative Second best out come stage zero to 1 in situ Next best stage 2 have lymph node biopsy and hope for the best If it's stage 3 or 4 IL start praying and do what I can waiting for the biopsy results is complicated time and the anxiety is high

Reagan had it inside his colon--snipped out quick during one of those required presidential checkup colonoscopy. Famously years later, his grown daughter Maureen got it in the same place, found much later and she died from it in her fifties.
What if your lymph nodes come and go on there own? Had one do that in my left armpit. Went away two weeks later and then another one popped up about a inch lower and one on my groin. I meet with the surgeon on Thursday. Had terrible night sweats on three different occasions and got really sick in my stomach multiple times. Lost sixty pounds in last couple years and my doctors act like that’s a good thing. I wasn’t fat. I was a strong able bodied person and now I’m a shell of my former self. Super tired all the time.
Oh, my goodness, please get yourself a new medical team. Have you been tested for blood cancers? I want to be mindful of what I share, as you do need to see a doctor and have those lymph nodes looked at, etc. Make a point form list of your symptoms. (Unexplained weight loss, fatigue, lymph nodes, night sweats, sick to your stomach....) - you deserve to be heard and to get the best care possible. ❤
Most cancers are because of a poor immune system. My neighbor got skin cancer where the sun don’t shine and she was never a sun bather anyway. But she smokes and eats like crap. She was smart though, she didn’t do chemo and she’s been cancer free for almost 10 years now even the her Dr told her if she didn’t get chemo she wouldn’t be alive in 5 years.

My sister got it in her nose, went through surgery, radiation, and they stopped her chemo, she had half of her face removed including eyeball nose whole half of her face all her teeth, roof of her mouth, sadly she didnt make it after all that,

I am sorry for your loss. And sorry for anyone with this melanoma. My brother died 2017 at 54. He had sinunasal mycosal melanoma. Stage 4 when they found it. He luved a year & a half after he had surgery to remove part of the roof of his mouth, keytruda & IL2. The Pet scan after IL2 showed it just exploded everywhere. He died a few months later. My Mama takes her third of ten fiinal radiation treatments for this. Dx in May. They found it had metastasized in July, I believe. On September 26th (my 48th bday), she told us it had spread to her bones and spine. A week ago, she bought me a new car. On Saturday, she told us there were five more lesions on her brain. She has these ten treatments and then hospice. Scheduling my flight to spend as much time as I can with her. It has felt almost like walking into your house to find youve been robbed...and while you're trying to figure out what has been stolen, the thief comes back to tell you that he forgot to grab the remote for the tv he stole off the wall - and wants to borrow your drill to take the mount off the wall. So, you get up to chase him and he just grabs the remote and runs out....and then you call the police and try explaining what happened, but they put you on hold....and when they get back on the line, it's only to tell you that an officer will be there shortly....with a drill to remove the wall mount....because the thief filed a complaint against you for withholding it.... ...and now youre sitting on the floor, in utter disbelief ...staring at the holes in your empty living room wall.

I think you are finding yours! And suffering is never wasted or hopeless. It brings us back to what is important, and that is love for our Creator. God will sustain us in our suffering.

I had no treatment just removal of the tumor and abdominal debulking i took sepsis and when it was over my hair was all gray the chronic fatigue is very difficult iv read how many divorces occur because their partner cant be bothered caring for them thats tragic as your left on your own to do everything 😢😢
Yeah Chris is lucky. I’m dealing with some serious health issues on my own,(blood cancer,liver damage,PCOS,insulin resistant w/out diabetes..to name a few.) as a mom to a great 6yr old boy! His father is there, but he doesn’t help or support me in anyway regarding my health, or even financially. if anything it’s worse having him here, I think I would have more peace and way less stress if I was alone…😢

So glad you are doing so well considering the diagnosis. As a cancer survivor myself, I have concerns about all the radiation from the CTs and Pet scans. Do you worry about that? And I’ve never had a PET scan, only a couple CTs in 8 years.

I believe that if anything such as an abnormal lump is found it should be biopsied immediately. Not wait for a few weeks taking antibiotics! So many times I have heard that cancer was missed by negligent doctors.

I had malignant skin melanoma at the age of 20....Removed successfully and everything is fine for me now at the age of 53.....BUUUT, my son has/had rectal bleeding at the age of 20-23 years old......he went to see a Dr in college and a primary Dr, but they told him it was hemorrhoid's, my absolute fear is that is NOT just hemorrhoid's!!! He just thinks I am being a Mom and over paranoid. :(
If youre bleeding ANYWHERE and youre not sure why....it would be absolute insanity to not get it fully checked out. Or even double check

I am so glad you are doing well and have such a positive attitude. I have has Basil Cell and Squamish Cell spots removed in the past year. I have remained with the positive attitude. My partner has helped me nurse my wounds. I think the worst thing I have done done after the diagnosis was research the internet. It gave me anxiety and kept me from falling asleep. I advise people not to do that. It will drive you crazy. Thank you for your story. BTW, I have my hair dyed white/grey because I like it.

I found a black nodule on my back 6mm and 2 to 3 mm in height
I was down the doctors the same day who booked me in a two week emergency
2 weeks emergency ?
I made at least 30 calls to private clinics to remove all fully booked so I simply paid more and had it out within 24 hours
A biopsy is now in process
The surgeon said that it did not fit the main character of malanoma
And when the nodule was cut out the skin underneath looked healthy
Best out biopsy comes back negative
Second best out come stage zero to 1 in situ
Next best stage 2 have lymph node biopsy and hope for the best
If it's stage 3 or 4
IL start praying and do what I can waiting for the biopsy results is complicated time and the anxiety is high
I pray it came back negative for you!
I was clear and I pray and hope any one in this situation has the same out come
But the truth is we all leave in the ending

How does melanoma end up there!!!! It’s so weird!!! I just don’t get it. Cancer is so awful.
Reagan had it inside his colon--snipped out quick during one of those required presidential checkup colonoscopy.
Famously years later, his grown daughter Maureen got it in the same place, found much later and she died from it in her fifties.
What if your lymph nodes come and go on there own? Had one do that in my left armpit. Went away two weeks later and then another one popped up about a inch lower and one on my groin. I meet with the surgeon on Thursday. Had terrible night sweats on three different occasions and got really sick in my stomach multiple times. Lost sixty pounds in last couple years and my doctors act like that’s a good thing. I wasn’t fat. I was a strong able bodied person and now I’m a shell of my former self. Super tired all the time.
Get new doctors.
Oh, my goodness, please get yourself a new medical team. Have you been tested for blood cancers? I want to be mindful of what I share, as you do need to see a doctor and have those lymph nodes looked at, etc. Make a point form list of your symptoms. (Unexplained weight loss, fatigue, lymph nodes, night sweats, sick to your stomach....) - you deserve to be heard and to get the best care possible. ❤
Do an over the counter AIDS test.
Most cancers are because of a poor immune system. My neighbor got skin cancer where the sun don’t shine and she was never a sun bather anyway. But she smokes and eats like crap. She was smart though, she didn’t do chemo and she’s been cancer free for almost 10 years now even the her Dr told her if she didn’t get chemo she wouldn’t be alive in 5 years.

My sister got it in her nose, went through surgery, radiation, and they stopped her chemo, she had half of her face removed including eyeball nose whole half of her face all her teeth, roof of her mouth, sadly she didnt make it after all that,
She went through absolute hell I’m so sorry. I couldn’t have done it.

I am sorry for your loss. And sorry for anyone with this melanoma. My brother died 2017 at 54. He had sinunasal mycosal melanoma. Stage 4 when they found it. He luved a year & a half after he had surgery to remove part of the roof of his mouth, keytruda & IL2. The Pet scan after IL2 showed it just exploded everywhere. He died a few months later. My Mama takes her third of ten fiinal radiation treatments for this. Dx in May. They found it had metastasized in July, I believe. On September 26th (my 48th bday), she told us it had spread to her bones and spine. A week ago, she bought me a new car. On Saturday, she told us there were five more lesions on her brain. She has these ten treatments and then hospice. Scheduling my flight to spend as much time as I can with her.
It has felt almost like walking into your house to find youve been robbed...and while you're trying to figure out what has been stolen, the thief comes back to tell you that he forgot to grab the remote for the tv he stole off the wall - and wants to borrow your drill to take the mount off the wall. So, you get up to chase him and he just grabs the remote and runs out....and then you call the police and try explaining what happened, but they put you on hold....and when they get back on the line, it's only to tell you that an officer will be there shortly....with a drill to remove the wall mount....because the thief filed a complaint against you for withholding it....
...and now youre sitting on the floor, in utter disbelief ...staring at the holes in your empty living room wall.
