  • Tens of thousands of people, young and old, flooded into Hong Kong’s Victoria Park for a candlelight vigil Tuesday night to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre. Organizers called it a “record turnout” and said it was the largest number of attendees since 2014, when Hong Kong was rocked by pro-democracy protests that brought large parts of the city to a standstill for months.

    I live in mainland China since i was born. i ve been feeling that this blocking thing is getting worst and worst every year. Now even some expressions about feminism or LGBT right might have the risk of being removed or blocked in those social media. whenever theres a post sent by the official account of the authority, the comments will be filtered that only those which favor the authority will be shown and sometimes its even not allowed to write any comment below those posts. (most ironically, theres an official post recently on weibo "asking our opinions" about the new policy about further limiting people's using VPN to climb across the "wall", which just cleared all the comments and not allowed to write any comments below it.) i huv to say that the trend that free speech getting more and more impossible and opinions on Chinese internet getting more and more controlled and uniform is freaking me out these days...

    People of China should look at Hong Kong and protest for a democratic country. The world will support them ,I know it's not easy ,it takes a lot of sacrifice to get democracy ,I have seen it in my country and also every other democratic country fought for democracy and had to sacrifice a lot for it. But it's sad to see the largest population in the world being slave of a party that controls what they see,say,hear and do. A country belongs to it's people ,not the government. The Chinese government thinks that money can shut people and take their attention away from the basic freedom that the Chinese people lack but remember 1 day they will all become tired of that money and huge building and will crave for their freedom . Honestly I would like to live as middle class income as long as I have all my democratic rights and freedoms.

    If Chinese people talk to each other about the government, this will come first when evaluating the government. I don’t think we Chinese forgot about the event, but as well, that event is far more complex than it could be. How a protest can happen in multiple places back in that time? I know the protest was not called “Tiananmen”, because it’s not a single event in the first place.

    • @brokenhalo22
      @brokenhalo22 5 лет назад +2

      That's the problem. Since there is no official record, the only way to learn about the massacre is via word of mouth. And as more of the population that lived through it die off, the importance of the massacre and the ideas that caused it will seem less important until they are forgotten. This is what China is counting on. The fact that mainland Chinese have easy access to Hong Kong now is potentially a huge problem for Chinese censorship.

    • @oscarestoa8796
      @oscarestoa8796 5 лет назад

      @@brokenhalo22 what if, one day, they are all prepared to know the truth, that day everyone has access to the university as well as the Internet, where the information will always be. And all that would be done for a greater good. Don't forget about what they are achieving at this very moment. Dude they get a car they can use almost for free just by being good citizens. Do you think that people don't use vpns there? What world do you think you live

    • @SurprisinglyDeep
      @SurprisinglyDeep 5 лет назад

      The knowledge of the massacre was probably widely spread through word of mouth. Like many people in North America know about stuff like the Great Depression even before they learn about it in history class because they heard about it from older family members, family friends or neighbours
      Also a lot of people learn stuff from their group of friends. Like if one person is really into stuff like history and politics and economics then he/she telling their friends about it in casual conversation and them then passing that info on can lead to lots of people knowing something that they otherwise wouldn't
      Probably the Chinese government banning the schools from discussing the Tianamen Square Massacre doesn't help. Then again some poorly funded and/or crap schools teach less history then censored ones in communist countries. Like I had a female coworker from America (I'm Canadian) that had never heard about the Cuban Missile Crisis

    • @SurprisinglyDeep
      @SurprisinglyDeep 5 лет назад

      @Zhang Zhuisui
      I seriously doubt that the Chinese government responding to the Tianamen square protestors by engaging with them socially instead of sending in dozens of tanks and hundreds of armed soldiers and acting like the protestors were some sort of invading army would've destroyed China.
      It might've just led to economic and institutional reforms but it had no chance of "destroying" the government or Chinese society

      World Peace? China today is currently at peace and not at war with any country (since our last major conflict in 1979) and instead of making war, China is investing in developing countries like Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and also African countries like Nigeria, Kenya, Chad, Sudan, Mozambique, Tanzania, etc.
      Whereas the United States is warmonger, being involved in Gulf War, Iraq War, Afghan War, Libyan War, Syrian War, etc, even in the 21st century. USA is enacting regime change by bombing those countries and cutting off their "heads" (Saddam Hussein, Muammar Gaddafi, etc) and then installing their own US puppet governments in place. Now USA is targeting Assad of Syria and Maduro of Venezuela.
