And it's a nice callback to earlier in the game, when Ike, during his angry rant at Empress Sanaki, simply refers to Princess Elincia as "Elincia" without realizing it until Elincia pointed it out to him afterwards. The husband of a queen does not automatically gain any titles, let alone become king in Tellius. In Radiant Dawn, Micaiah becomes queen and Sothe marries her, but he doesn't become king.
For those of you wondering why this budding romance was never mentioned in Radiant Dawn, it's because it was added in the localized version of Path of Radiance. The Japanese supports were purely platonic. Radiant Dawn stayed a bit more true to the Japanese version's dialogue (even with it's mistranslated difficulty settings}
which even implies moreso that Ike was NEVER interested in Elincia at all. It was just to avoid backlash if the writers explicitly had Ike confess his love for Soren, which by the way, was changed in the localization as well. Elinicia's was basically from "you're my client and thus I'll do my best for your cause" to "I'll realize your dreams and more than that", and Soren's changed from "special someone" to "a great friend" or something like that. It's pretty deliberate with what the writers were intending through the localization.
TheShanicpower and tehmaimed where is your evidence of any romance? There is none. Most people who ship Ike and Elincia do so because, in the localization, there was strong evidence in the dialogue and subtext. With Ike and Soren, all evidence, regardless of localization, points towards a strong friendship; nothing more. By any chance, do either of you also ship Sherlock Holmes and Watson (in any version), Harry and Hermione, and/or Captain America and Bucky? If so, then you're missing out on some interesting friendship story arcs. It's not your fault if that's the case; the sheer amount of lazy shortcuts in writing romances and just plain badly-written romance arcs in modern media has caused audiences to assume romance unless explicitly stated otherwise. Kendall Miller Most likely social status. Ike would never marry someone of nobility because he would hate that kind of life. During the time after the Mad King's War he just went back to managing the Greil Mercenaries and somewhat cut himself off of Queen Elincia. Shinon himself said that Ike was in love with her (although he was drunk).
Kendall Miller Mostly, what 123Atheist said. And to add to that, Elincia knew Geoffrey all of her life and Geoffrey deeply cared for her. Ike and Elincia did seem to develop a relationship during the Mad King's War, but it never finished for reasons 123Atheist already went through.
*Reason Ike didn't bang Elincia: Nobility* *Ike doesn't want to be Nobility* *Class name in PoR: Lord* -____________________________- Edit: Forgot that Ike was Vanguard, not Great Lord.
Class Name in PoR: Ranger -> lord: promotion occurs in a story event where he is forced to become nobility in order to lead the soldiers on loan from Begnion. He renounces said title when the war is over. Class Name in RD: Hero -> Vanguard: hero makes sense as he is the hero of the Mad King's war. Vanguard makes sense as it refers to the unit that gets sent out first. Neither class name conveys nobility.

In the Japanese version he is as aloof as he is to other women's affections for him. There's a whole analysis of it somewhere in the Internet, but it's pretty clear the devs' original intent for Ike was that he was not interested in Elincia in any way or form. The closest form of affection we've seen in both English/Japanese versions is when he hugs Soren in RD, but that could be taken for anything like brotherly love as well. Make of it what you will but Ike's sexuality/romantic affiliations is intended to be ambiguous, which the Japanese are known for in their writing a lot.
